Raine didn't know if it was the gentle evening breeze or the peaceful atmosphere but she found his voice to be excessively calm and soothing to her nerves and the corner of her lips rose up in a small smile.
After not getting a reply from her for a long time, Jedrek felt that she was still too scared to speak to him. He pinched the space between his brows in helplessness and then turned fully to face her but he was momentarily stunned when he found her gawking at him instead.
His expression calmed and his worries were dispelled into thin air but his face still remained cold and expressionless. He took slow steps towards her and closed the gap between them. Now, they were only an arm's length apart.
When Raine noticed their close proximity, she quickly regained herself and stared up at him only to be met with a pair of misty grey eyes expressionlessly staring deeply at her.
Finding his gaze to be probing, she choked on her words and then took a few steps back thereby increasing the distance between them. Jedrek watched her actions wordlessly but only raised a brow at her prompting her to reply to his earlier question.
He had noticed that if he wanted her to let down her guard he had to be gentle and not too persistent towards her. If he became too cold and oppressive then the little girl will scurry off like some scared kitten.
After a while, Raine forced herself to return his gaze before replying in a somewhat flattened tone, "I have no change of clothes and these are dirty and dusty," she pointed at the clothes she was wearing before she continued, "You were the one who carried me to the bedroom right?"
Jedrek almost had the urge to laugh, "If it wasn't me then who else?" he knew what her question was implying but still decided to tease her a little.
Raine gulped, "No it's...I...I just..."
Jedrek smiled at her softly but the smile didn't reach his eyes, "Rest assured, I'll get someone to change the sheets."
He was aware of how much of a neat freak she was and he knew she would be uncomfortable if she slept on a bed without changing her clothes. In fact, he knew a lot about her but Raine knew that if she asked how he knew them, he wouldn't reply. In just a short while she had come to learn about the questions which would be answered and those which wouldn't.
Raine nodded at his reassurance but abruptly raised her head to give him a questioning gaze when she remembered that he hadn't said anything regarding her clothes.
As if getting the hint of her stare, Jedrek immediately added, "As for your clothes, make do with something for the night. I have already appointed someone to arrange for some clothes tomorrow. You'll get them in the morning."
He stared at her relaxed expression for a while before he asked, "What would you like to eat? I'll take you out."
He noticed she didn't touch the food earlier so he decided to take her out for something to at least pacify her a bit.
Raine smiled sheepishly while pointing in the direction of the house, "Uhm... what about the food..."
"It's already cold. I'll take you out this evening. So where do you want to eat?"
Raine's smile broadened and her eyes twinkled like a thousand stars, "I'll like to eat some desserts. I heard there is a dessert shop that sells french pastries. I've always wanted to try it, how about we go there?"
Unknowingly, her little hand tugged gently on his sleeves in excitement.
Jedrek stood transfixed and stared at her twinkling eyes. He felt a little bit delighted that he made her happy. He gently nodded at her and quietly led her to the car.
As soon as they got to the car, Raine thought that his driver would be waiting for them but she was stunned when Jedrek led her to the passenger's seat, and then after closing the door, he went round and entered the car through the driver's seat.
She watched as his long fingers slowly ignited the car and grip the steering wheel. Just when she thought that he was about to move the car, he suddenly turned the car off and turned towards her.
Raine frowned, she was about to turn her head towards the window when her actions froze as he slowly leaned towards her.
