Chapter 23 - DO NOT SPEAK WITH ANY STRANGER

Raine took a while to process his words. She always knew that the situation she was in was not as simple as she presumed but hearing him say this still sent chills down her spine.

"Am I stuck in your world forever?" she whispered to herself but it was loud enough for his ears to catch it.

Jedrek let out a short laugh after that, "You're not stuck here forever. In the meantime, you're not just allowed to go out and I promise I'll accompany you in whichever activity you feel like doing."

"But it still won't be the same," she stubbornly argued, "How would my brain function normally when I'm surrounded by three handsome men for who knows how long?" her tone sounded frustrated and she almost had the urge to pull her hair.

Jedrek didn't retort to her last statement, he only turned to look at her and smiled before returning his gaze back to the road.

When Raine didn't hear him say anything, she found it odd. It wasn't until she turned to look at him and caught a glimpse of the slight tug in his lips did she realize that she just called him handsome to his face.

A small smile still kept hanging on his lips and he turned to her, "You really feel this uncomfortable around handsome men?" he arched a brow at her and Raine shook her head in disagreement but her lips remained sealed. She couldn't find the right words to retort back.

After a while, she finally regained herself. She cleared her throat and spoke in a sharp tone, "How about this? I'll go out in the morning for work and when I get back in the evening you'll have to accompany me for whichever activity I feel like doing."

Jedrek raised a brow at her shrewdness, "Ever thought of going into the business industry? When it comes to bargaining, you really know how to put the other party on a loosing end."

He turned his head and watched her blink innocently and he could only shake his head in helplessness. He had offered to accompany her on account that she doesn't go out to work but who would have thought that she was sly enough and actually agreed to both? Now, not only does he have to allow her to go out, but he also has to accompany her when she gets back.

He shook his head once more, "Seems like I really underestimated you," he stared at her for a while before letting out a deep sigh which could be considered as a helpless one, "I'll arrange for security to guard you when you go out and when you get back, I'll accompany you wherever you want to go or feel like doing, but you have to promise me one thing..."

He paused and stared intently at her with a serious gaze. Raine noticed the serious countenance and so she listened carefully.

"Do not speak with any stranger. If you feel like you don't know them then just walk away. You aren't compelled to speak with anyone and so be careful," he warned softly and Raine nodded.

A little bliss spread through her heart that he finally agreed to her request. Although, his tone sounded reluctant when he agreed to her request but Raine didn't mind. All that mattered to her was the fact that he agreed to her request and her face beamed with a radiant smile.

"Thank you," her voice was low and soft but a little streak of happiness could still be detected in her tone.

Jedrek slowly turned to her and his gaze caught sight of her beaming expression. His eyes traveled from her bright and radiant smile to the satisfactory expression in her eyes. Her eyes...they sparkled with every bit of expression in them. He felt like they were an open book giving him insight into whatever her thought was.

He kept a low smile hanging on his lips and retracted his gaze from her face.

Raine on the other hand felt like a kindergarten kid who had just achieved her first gold star and received some praise from the teacher. Still, with a smile on her face, she stared out of the window and enjoyed the vast scenery.
