Chereads / The Last Seeker Of Kimoptra / Chapter 5 - Chapter Five

Chapter 5 - Chapter Five

Jason's Pov

I groaned, rubbing my eyes before opening them to discover that she wasn't on the bed anymore.

However, the sound of the door being pulled forcefully made me know that she was still in the room.

I got up, a bit angered at her action.

Yes, I was a master of my emotions, yet I couldn't help but feel angry at her for trying to escape.

Even if I hadn't locked the door last night, did she really think she could get away?

She later fell slowly to the floor, bringing her knees up to her chest and her palms to her face.

Gut-wrenching sobs tore through her chest immediately after that.

I came forward, kneeling on one knee before her,

only staring at her quietly.

Some seconds passed, and sniffing away her tears, she finally decided to raise her head to meet mine.

Terror washed over her, sucking the very breath from her mouth as her lips parted open with no words coming through.

"What do you think you're trying to do?" I asked in a deadly tone, trying hard to manage my anger and not to scare her more than she already was.

"Ple…...p…..pleas….please let me go." She stammered in a cracked and sobbing voice.

I could feel my anger melting away at the sound of her voice and her horrified state.

Softening my eyes on her, I felt a pang of guilt creep up from the pit of my stomach.

"You're injured, and at least I can not let you go like this." A choked whimper escaped her lips and soon her body wracked with an onslaught of sobs and tears.

It felt as if I'd been stabbed with a branding iron as I watched tears stream down her face profusely.

I clenched onto my chest trying to stop the agonizing pain her tears provoked in my heart.

But wait a second,….

….why my heart?

This girl was doing things to me….

Things I couldn't comprehend well enough.

And now she's hurting my heart with mere tears.

Ohhhhhh.....

...…. I remember, she was a witch and belonged to the strongest of covens in Kimoptra.

She was probably trying to cast a spell on me using her tears or what else could be the case?

"Aurora…" I calmly called, saying her name for the first time and It felt like honey on the back of my tongue.

I breathe in, closing my eyes and trying to think of a way to calm her down.

Unexpectedly, I no longer heard her sobbing after that, so I opened my eyes to see her tear-stricken face and those glassy orbs staring at me not with any form of fear this time, but with confusion swirling in them.

"You…you….. remembered my name?" She asked sounding surprised.

"Why wouldn't I?" I asked, arching a brow and answering her question with a query, and she darted her eyes to the ground with her cheeks turning a shade of pink.

"My name is Jason, and as you already know I'm a werewolf but a half-breed also," I said only in a bit to make her feel comfortable with my presence.

"...Hal...half...half-breed?" She stammered out with a glint of curiosity in her violet eyes.

"Yup!" I said, standing up immediately and she flinched a bit due to the suddenness of the action taken.

There was definitely no way I was going to tell her that I'm a half-breed seeker and a werewolf.

I'd rather have her guessing what my other breed is until I know exactly why she's searching for the last seeker of our kingdom.

"You don't need to be so scared of me I promise, I have no intentions of hurting you," I said, changing the subject away from her question.

"What about the elf?" She asked without a single stammer in her voice.

"He wouldn't dare…"I replied in a voice that sounded not so friendly, suddenly

remembering how he attacked her back in the woods that night, I blinked trying to get rid of the disturbing image in my head.

"I apologize for what he did back there in the forest…..

….he wasn't thinking straight." Staring into her beautiful violet eyes, I smiled.

"...You mean...he was the one who threw me across a tree?" Picking out the words slowly from her mouth, she asked.

"It doesn't matter now, at least you are awake and you should try to rest those bones so they could heal properly, and maybe afterward, we could discuss you returning home, hmm?" I said, stretching her out a hand that she hesitated to take until a minute of probably thinking through my words.

They felt really cold and small in my large palm.

"You won't be sleeping here again, would you?" She asked, with her voice matching the innocence of a child.

"No I won't, last night was just accidental," I answered with a small smile on my face and she gave a faint smile in reply that showed some relief in her.

"Umm, there are some clothes in the wardrobe you could manage in the meantime. Just go into the bathroom and take a bath, while I fix something up for you to eat." She gave a nod, then I took out a key from my pocket and unlocked the door.

Getting outside of the room, I was confronted with blue-gray eyes staring at me with a masked-up face of no expression.

"You seem to be getting along with the young witch."He voiced out, with his arms folded across his chest.

"If this is your way of asking about her wellbeing, then she's fine," I replied and walked away, heading towards the kitchen while he followed behind.

"I still don't understand why you are mad at me, you know that I acted only out of defense." He declared, still not admitting his fault against Aurora.

"Yes! you simply acted out of defense against a defenseless girl, I get it!" My tone dripped with sarcasm and a bit of irritation.

"She's a witch." He murmured against his breath still behind me, as we walked into the kitchen together.

"So what if she isn't an ordinary girl? does that give you the reason to try to put an end to her life?" I hissed, annoyed by his words.

Gieon simply shuffled me to a corner, saying in a hushed tone.

"We both know that's not the reason why I did what I did.

She's on a quest that relates to you and my job here is to keep you safe and hidden from people who want you."

"I get that you are trying to protect me, but I'm an adult and I can do that myself." I asserted him in the same tone, getting out of the corner he walked me into.

"You might be an adult, but I have lived more than a century of your life and acquired more than you might ever get to know, so again I warn you, be careful with the witch." He sighed, before turning around to walk away.

"Her name is Aurora, please call her that when referring to her. You make her sound like some undercover villain." I blurted out immediately before he took a step further.

"Well, you can't tell for now, but I sure will do so to remember the name in case of a  next time." He chuckled humorlessly as he walked away.

I rubbed my temple, already tired with all the behavior and energy around, maybe I'd stop by the lake when I'm done making breakfast for myself and Aurora.

At least, there was no need to make some for Gieon, he hated what I was making.
