Chapter 9 - Chapter Nine

Aurora's Pov

Everything happened so fast. One minute we were by the lake, talking, when Gieon suddenly appeared with a man who had this startling resemblance to Jason.

Though they had the same face shape, the same build except that Jason looked much taller and the man appeared to be a bit more muscular than he was, his eyes were much different to Jason's, blue just like the ocean's whereas Jason's eyes were gleaming emerald green.

A few minutes later, I am in Jason's arms, with my eyes tightly closed, not wanting to behold the horrific scene around, my head pressed into his chest, and my body trembling in his.

I could smell the tension in the air intensifying, increasing my heart rate, flooding me with added adrenaline.

And at that moment, darkness pulsating through me like a living being, a sudden whirlpool of wind came, engulfing me at a speed.

Seconds passed and all I hear is a sudden silence that Jason's voice later pierces through, his voice sounding so gentle in my ears.

"Relax, you are safe now." I hear him say, as I couldn't hear the menacing growls or feel that intense tension anymore.

"Aurora." He says, calling my name and I couldn't help but feel that tingling feeling in my stomach.

Every time he says my name, it sounds so good and even better than I've heard others say it before now.

Raising my head up and away from his chest, I was faced with darkness.

But luckily for me, my amulet still glowed and was bright enough for me to make little things out of the darkness that lingers. Guessing that we were deep inside a cave.

I looked back at Jason, my mind puzzled about how we got here.

But his eyes were burning, so bright but also odd, with emerald green and golden amber swirling and blending into each other.

In all the time we've spent together, I have never seen such a magnificent thing happen before.

It was so beautiful, yet so strange to me.

I stared long into them, not realizing the tears that flowed down from my eyes, wetting my cheeks, until I felt his thumb swipe over my cheeks, cleaning off the tears.

"Are you okay?" He asked as he released me from his hold, but the changes going on in his eyes were too mesmerizing for me to give him an answer.

"Your eyes, they are of two colors," I said and he blinked, closing his eyes, the golden amber disappearing, and his emerald green eyes only returning as soon as he opens them.

We both stared at each other in total silence for a while before I spoke again.

"You brought us here, right?" I ask, and he nods his head, but only after a few seconds have passed.

"How?" I struggled to make my voice sound even and natural, but it was only low, with much curiosity bleeding through it.

He darted his eyes away from me, refusing to look back at me. His face looked pale and his expression only told me he was hiding something.

"If we can find your spellbook, can we find a spell to get you out of these woods?" He was avoiding my question by giving me one instead. This brings me to the conclusion that he really was hiding something.

"Don't ignore the question, Jason, how did we get here?" I felt a rising in my chest and irritation surging up inside me.

I feel like I was so foolish to tell him about myself, and my plans, while he didn't trust me enough to give a damn answer to my question.

I didn't even get why he avoided the question like some kind of plague. I also noticed that he hesitated to give me an answer when I asked about what other breed he was aside from him being a werewolf.

And I also do not understand why his father would attack us just because he wanted him to hand me over to that brooding elf.

"You don't trust me, do you?" I ask him, stepping closer.

I wanted him to look me in the eye and tell me I was wrong, but he didn't. He didn't even say a word to me and heck; I felt hurt by the silent treatment he was giving me.

I didn't even know which pain felt worse. Was it being thrown across a tree the other day or him not trusting me now?

"Why then did you bring me here, instead of just giving me up to them, huh?...

.... I told you everything about myself and where I came from, but you are holding back because you don't trust me…...

.... Okay, since you don't trust me then, please tell me why then didn't you just give me to Gieon as your father said?" I grabbed his hand, jerking it to the side so he would turn to face me, so he could see how much his silence angered me….

"Why would you protect and care for me if you don't trust me?...

..... I'm not invisible and I know you can hear me Jason, so just answer the questions….

Why?!" I shouted out, with my voice echoing in the empty cave. All at the same time, he pulls me closer to his chest and I can feel his heartbeat slowly speed up.

"Because you are my mate….." The sudden shock to hear those words come out of his lips made my muscles tense.

My heart turned icy, and I immediately shuffle myself, releasing myself from his grip.

He continued to speak, "I care about you and I'm even willing to lay down my life if ever the situation arises again, all because you are my mate."

He licked the bottom of his lips, his hands going into his hair, ruffling it as he sighed before speaking again. "Believe me, I was also as confused and curious as to why I felt for you. I believed you and even trusted that you were not a threat as Gieon said…...

…... I was still curious, but not until now that my wolf confirms you are my mate….

….. And It's not that I don't trust you but I just don't know how to explain to you or how to explain to you the history that surrounds my existence, all I want is for you to be safe and by safe that means away from here."

I gulp the lump that had gathered up in my lungs and process all that he had just said.

Being told that I was his mate was quite shocking and not exactly what I was expecting to hear, but truth be told that wasn't a bad idea, I mean he was gorgeous and would make any girl think twice about her beauty but the idea that Gieon said I was a threat was what I couldn't wrap my head around.

"Why did Gieon say I was a threat?" I asked him, but he seems reluctant to answer again.

He closes his eyes and as soon as he opens them; I saw the same colors as I saw earlier, swirling around each other just as before and peering into mine.

He stood still for what seemed like hours but was actually for a few seconds, concentrating only on my eyes, but soon after, he let a breath out and mumbled out the words "It's useless trying it on her."

I took a guess that he was communicating with his wolf, but I couldn't help but wonder what he meant by that.

"We need to find your spellbook so you could leave. You are not safe here with my father and Gieon hunting for you."

"I'm not going anywhere until you answer my question," I replied, and he rubs his temple, disturbed by my attitude.

"If I am to give you an answer then you will have to listen to me and leave from here, yes?" He asks, tilting his head to a side, and with no hesitation the word "Yes." slips from my mouth, without perceiving what exactly I was about to hear.

"I am the one born of the last seeker."
