Chapter 18 - Ambush

Inside the dark, almost imperceptible path in the forest of mist, a sound of a carriage moving at fast speed reverberated throughout the area.

Swoosh swoosh swoosh...

The speed at which they were traveling is so fast that the mist covering the way started to step aside whenever they get past them.

Behind them was a group of people running at the same speed to keep pace with them.

Perhaps these people were skilled and trained enough to be able to do this in the long run. Albeit they had been running for a while, none of them seemed to be having any sign of exhaustion.

"It's quite surprising that you can run and keep up with us at this speed."

"..."

The man spoke directly to Flux.

"Is this a compliment?"

"You could put it that way"

"..."

After a short exchange, the man spoke again.

"I wonder how long you can keep with us"

"...that's not what you should be saying, you should think about how long you can keep up with me"

Saying that to him, Flux sprinted and went ahead of him. Completely leading everyone on the way.

'What!' Everyone nearby exclaimed thoughts.

The man went silent after that. He certainly knew he can keep up with him but the situation forced him not to do so. Everything is just merely provoking each other.

"Hey, you better not compete with him. He's just a kid. We need to preserve our strength and stamina for the long run. If you compete with him now, you'll only lose your momentum with us. Nothing good would ever come by engaging in a competition with him"

His companion beside him remarked to keep composing himself.

"...yeah I know. Pretty soon his stamina will be completely drained and that leaves him no other choice but to get inside the carriage."

His words made everyone nod in unison as though they'd agreed with him.

"..."

Flux heard that clearly. Nevertheless, he determined himself not to respond to a mere provocation.

'Those big words would soon crumble as well'

Flux asserted inside his mind.

***

Thud

Thud

In the middle of the dark, thick mist, dense forest, a figure in a robe with a staff in his hands walked across the path.

Following him was several, no, hundreds of unknown figure.

They keep walking as if they were finding something on the ground.

Shortly thereafter, the figure with a robe picked something beneath him. A satisfied look came out of its expression.

Then, a hoarse voice came out of it. [I will kill everyone and become an Overlord in this land]

***

One and a half hours later...

Everyone was still running at the same speed. Sweat began to cover their entire face, and a clear indication was written all over their face which was fatigue that was taking all over their body.

Clearly saying that those who were selected to ride the horse are the lucky ones.

However...

'Are you kidding me, that kid had been running for one hour and a half, and you're saying he isn't tired yet. No, maybe he isn't just showing it to everyone but I'm sure he's tired like us as well, if not, he's even more tired than us.' Everyone has the same thought.

Ever since Flux started running ahead of them, their attention was fully locked on him. As a result, they failed to keep or match up their attention to the surrounding area. And at this moment, the only one who was guarding the carriage was Flux who had his eyes on the surrounding area the entire time.

"Soon his body will crumble"

People whispered to each other. Then they agreed.

"..."

'Honestly, these guys are disgusting.'

They're like a stalker in the dark. Totally locked their attention on the target.

It couldn't be helped if Flux had this thought about them. It was almost two hours since they commenced keeping their eye on him.

After a short while, something happened which made the whole group take a break.

"What happened?" Said one of the captains.

"Sir it seems the wheel had some problems"

The captain frowned.

"Tch... This was unavoidable in the first place. Make sure to fix it quickly."

"Yes sir." He bowed before leaving.

"What should we do? Under this situation, we might not be able to get there as we expected."

"Well... We have to change our plan a bit I guess"

Everyone in charge of this plan nodded quietly.

The captains then began to talk about their specific plans for the journey. Some people participated in it to have a gist of what was going to happen.

Captains wanted to refute them but judging the circumstance, they were under the pressure where they have to let others know their plans. As a result, they were forced to let them partake as long as the information they were about to give was limited.

"..."

While waiting for them to finish fixing the tire, Flux stood there without saying a word.

Then, he saw a small rock a few meters away from the tire. As far as he knew, something hit the tire for it to get in that state while observing from afar.

'This is not a coincidence' thought Flux confidently.

He then tilted his head with his eyes fully locked in one direction.

At this time, Carlo went next to him.

"Hello, man I couldn't believe what I saw earlier. how do you do that? I was pretty sure you would get exhausted earlier but the outcome was completely out of my prediction"

He started spouting some nonsense stuff but Flux simply ignored him. He was that man earlier next to his side.

But without a doubt, what Flux showed earlier was unbelievable. People were skeptical but it was pure evidence to their eyes.

Still, he received no replies.

"Huh... Hey, do you hear me?──"

Carlo wanted to convey his words to him.

But...

『Technique Deployment, Descending Crescent Night Sky』

In an instant, Flux unsheathed his katana and swung his sword from the sky.

In this single slash, various crescent slashes were coating it.

Slash...

Split──

The incoming large fireball moving so fast which is directly targeting them was divided neatly.

"Huh...?" Carlo muttered in surprise, unknowingly to the situation.

It gradually dispersed in the air leaving no traces behind. However, that didn't happen.

Booooomm!

The dividend Fireball immediately explodes simultaneously, leaving everyone unprepared. As a result, everyone was swept by the explosion.

Everyone in the vicinity that wasn't affected by the explosion was forced to back off.

Terrified.

"What happened?" Asked bistroe, Captain of the first party.

Soon after, a hunter came and told him.

"Sir, we're under attack. Undeads were spotted around us!"

"What!!!" Everyone simultaneously said this in shock.

"If it's undead..."

"That means a necromancer Is here as well!"

"Shit we're screwed"

It seems like someone used a search spell to know the situation and saw those undead scattered nearby.

Everyone here knew how devastating it is to fight against necromancers. Not only do you have to fight against enemies that will be revived again from the dead, but the spell caster as well who can still use various spells other than their specialized skill.

The fireball was an example of that.

At this time, the captain of the second party instructed everyone to prepare themselves as per his job as the captain.

"Calm down! Panicking won't do anything. Prepare yourselves and build a line with your swords around the carriage!"

As he said, panicking won't do anything and everyone immediately realized that. They formed a line to protect the carriage, products, and their selves of course.

Each carriage had people about 7-3 defending against their enemies.

At the same time...

The shadow of Flux gradually became visible. Shortly, his whole body can be seen along with another person next to his side, Carlo.

"Hey, are you guys alright?" A comrade comes next to them to ask if they're okay.

No one responded.

Carlo hadn't comprehended what happened yet. There was still a dumb expression left on his face.

He muttered. "Uh-huh...?"

"Hey tell me what exactly happened?"

As though not satisfied with the answer Carlo gave to him, he asked Flux who was the person who knew better.

However, the answer wasn't given. Instead, murderous killing intent enveloped Flux as a clear sign.

Flux muttered with killing intent. "You all better get away as much as possible..."

"What?"

The guy was dumbfounded but he definitely felt the killing intent.

However, in the next few seconds...

『Technique Deployment, Chaotic Moon』

Flux muttered with tremendous killing intent as his grip over his sword hardened.

"!!!"

Everyone immediately steps back far away as they could from him including Carlo.

Even though he doesn't seem to understand the slightest bit of the situation, his sixth sense is telling him to get away as far as he could.

Shortly after, Flux released three massive Crescent slashes about five meters tall that revolves after being released along with at least 50 small chaotic crescent slashes hovering around the three original slashes with no set forms that lasted for two seconds.

It was the same slashes he showed to test the sword.

Then, sounds of creatures being severely cut can be heard inside the dense cloud of mist.

Cut cut cut cut cut...

'What the hell was that sound. Also, that technique just now, how did he form and rotate slashes coated with several slashes. It might sound exaggerated but how did he do that. No matter what you think about it, no person in this world could swing his sword like that unless they've reached the highest level of the sword.' Carlo thought before landing on the ground.

Everyone had exactly the same thoughts too.

It was highly likely unsurprising to everyone to have this reaction seeing that technique on display just once.

But the people present here instantly removed those thoughts after seeing another monster's wave coming this way.

"Those are..."

Carlo nodded. "Yeah, they're undead."

Everyone noticed that some of their parts were severely sliced.

Although the technique only lasted for a few seconds, it nearly killed all of them.

However, they gradually came back to life.

They couldn't really see them from afar but the silhouette of the undead coming back to life was enough to be confident with their answers.
