Chapter 23 - near death situation

Regardless of what was about to come, Flux did not give in. As such, he hurriedly kicked the ground to avoid the incoming attack.

Swoosh- swish! Bang!

Flux by kicking the ground backward dodge the sword by hair-breadth and was dozens of meters away from his opponent.

However, it wasn't the time to be slacking off here. The lich is not the type of monster that lets his opponent escape very easily.

∆Devil Magic, Black Circuit∆

The lich points one of his swords at Flux and instantly after doing so, a dense black lightning ball was gathered at the edges of the sword before he released black lightning which had scattered everywhere in the vicinity.

Swish-  thunder! Rumble! Boom!

Seeing dozens of black lightning coming at him, Flux dashed ahead.

One by one Flux tried to avoid each of these lightning carefully. Although not quite, he avoided them by hair-breadth.

Boom! Boom! Boom!

Each time he dodges one, a large not deep crater were created behind him including the loud rumbling sound.

He had already passed his limit and was ready to fall anytime soon. Nevertheless, there is one thing that keeps him from going forward.

I'm undefeated and I have no reason to throw my crown.

On the other hand, Lich seeing the opponent dodging his attacks was mesmerized. He hardly ever saw anyone dodging this series of attacks before. And he's pretty sure he won't be able to see anyone like him in the future.

Flux who was dodging the attacks had reached into conclusion. He gathered his energy in his foot and leaped himself.

Swoosh!

While in mid-air, Flux gathered a decent amount of mana into his katana.

Lich noticed him coating his sword with mana and did not delay any further to counter his technique.

『Technique Deployment, Moonlight Scenery Dance』

∆Devil Sword Art, Sword Rampage∆

The Lich swung his sword countless times and created mayhem of countless mana slashes which were directly aimed at Flux.

Flux also did not let these slashes overwhelm him. He immediately danced along with his sword while in the air and created countless crescent slashes as well to parry the incoming attacks.

His movements were so beautifully made as if he was the flowing river itself.

Cut cut cut cut cut cut cut...

One after another, mana slashes created by Lich were constantly being countered by the opposing technique which was a huge flaw for him.

Not too long, Flux landed on the ground and continued moving forward. His movements were still the same and the technique is still ongoing.

'Just what the heck is this guy made of? His techniques were constantly destroying mine. The moment I'd started using Devil Magic, I was confident enough to destroy him completely in just a few couples of seconds. Yet, he's been destroying them in just a single swing of his sword.' Thought Lich as he was ready to parry his attacks.

As Flux arrived near him, he immediately swung his sword numerous times.

Along with small crescent slashes, the sword went for Lich's body.

Klang Klang Klang Klang...

However, this was proven to be useless against Lich as his attacks were blocked by his sword.

"Hahaha, what are you gonna do now now that I'd destroyed your last hope?" Lich maniacally said this.

However...

Flux attacks did not end here. He moves acrobatically before swiftly slashing his opponent's neck.

Swish! Klang Klang Klang Splurt!

『 1800 damage』

『Lich the undead summoner』

『Level: 35』

『Hp: 38200/40000』

『Type: Elite Boss monster』

『Skill: Unknown』

『State: berserker』

A single slash broke through Lich's defense and inflicted damage.

Although it had failed to cut his neck, it managed to inflict damage on his shoulder.

"What?" Lich surprised by the sudden turn of events muttered this word.

Lich admits, that he was surprised by that sudden unpredictable attack and still managed to block them, however, there was a failure in his calculation while trying to block all the attacks and that's what leads to this.

Now he understood why he should not underestimate this kid.

Under his circumstance where one couldn't simply do anything, Flux still managed to land a clean hit on him.

He then dashed forward out of frustration for letting his opponent slash his body.

∆Devil Sword Art, Pillar of thousand deaths∆

He raised his sword blanketed with a massive amount of mana before descending it to where Flux was.

Flux knew he couldn't block that with his current strength. therefore, he quickly used flash steps to get behind him.

Swish! Swoosh! Boom!

The impact upon hitting the ground created a massive crater and shook the ground in the area.

Flux who appeared behind the Lich was startled upon noticing the ground shaking. Not long he noticed the ground splitting into pieces as if it was about to collapse deep underneath the new surface.

Without a choice, Flux who was behind his opponent, leaped himself upward.

Then, to not waste this opportunity, he covered his sword in mana. Next, the mana started going at the edges of the sword. And soon, an energy ball was formed and without wasting time any further, he aimed at his opponent.

『Technique Deployment, Dark Pulse』

The purple energy ball that seemed to function as the essence released a dark purple ray before hitting the target.

Booooommmm!

Right after hitting Lich, a massive explosion can be seen and heard in the entire forest.

The shockwave shoved the mist away from the area and was replaced by the dust which was formulated by the explosion.

The explosion was so big that it might not be unsurprising anymore if someone from afar saw it with their eyes despite this darkness and a thick layer of mist.

Almost no one would perceive anything but this explosion might be an exception to that.

Soon after this explosion, the area went back to its stalemate status. However, the people nearby did not show any expression that seem to indicate their calmness on this. They all had the same solemn expression which is unusual.

The scene in the area was so dissatisfying in someone's eyes if that someone was here. Though at the end of the day, no one dared to speak carelessly as if their mouth were sealed. Only the sound of their thoughts that can be heard by themselves is the only one resounding inside their ears.

'Did he get him?'

'Did he kill him?'

'That attack must have killed him. I'm sure of it'

'I can't see anything

'This is too extremely difficult to conclude. I can't tell who won't

These were the thoughts of people who were rooting for Flux to win.

The captain who had been watching up until now, couldn't be more restless than this.

'It's fine. if he can't defeat them, those guys will. He or we have to at least hold him down until they arrived here.' Thought the captain.

Earlier, he received a message from his subordinate through the system chat that a group of people have come to aid them. He expected them to be stronger because of what was written in the chat. It was clearly stated that the village chief personally came to help them upon knowing that a group of people have come to assassinate them and stole their supplies on their way to the village.

The captain himself knows how strong the chief of that village is as it is not his first time coming to the mist village. He certainly knew that person could handle this monster easily in some way.

'I hope she arrived here soon' the captain thought after messaging his subordinate about their location on the other side.

Inside the thick layer of smoke, the figure of Flux came to light as he stood there waiting for the result of his attack.

He patiently waited.

However, the reason apparently wasn't what anyone normally thinks.

It did not take long for his feet to give in.

Thud...

His feet fell to the ground along with his entire body gasping for breath.

*ha... Ha... Ha...*

His eyes did not waver. He was just staring in one direction seemingly restless without trying to find out the outcome.

Up a while ago, he had plainly used all his mana in that technique to end this all at once. But in the end, he was not clearly convinced enough to believe the outcome he'd anticipated.

Flux muttered while in a dire state. "I hope that ended everything."

Unfortunately, Flux is not fond of allowing the fight to prolong. He ultimately ends all the fights he had up until now in one blow whenever he finds an opportunity to do so. And the same situation here is not an exception to that. As such, he has his hopes high for this single attack.

Without the katana, these thoughts would've been erased a long time ago, however, this sword was the only ray of hope that gives hope to Flux to win this battle.

Nevertheless, as he stared at the dense smoke which replaced the mist, a dark silhouette appeared in Flux's line of sight.

His body started trembling. The realization struck his head so hard. Yet, he did not complain or anything. There was no hint or faint of fear in his eyes not in the slightest bit.

Before long, the figure of Lich appeared in everyone's line of sight. They had the same exact frown expression knowing that he was still alive.

His eyes were full of bloodshed. "You have been given enough time to play with me. Now is your time to die."

He said in an angry tone. It wasn't clear but his body could be seen that some of his parts were destroyed if not, severely injured.

As he walks ahead, the blood flowing from his entire body became evident to Flux.

Even Flux himself knowing the capabilities of Lich was fascinated by how much damage he inflicted on his opponent just by landing two direct hits.

『 you inflicted 16,860 damage』

『Lich the undead summoner』

『Level: 35』

『Hp: 1340/40000』

『Type: Elite Boss monster』

『Skill: Unknown』

『State: berserker』

His eyes were focused on the system and did not notice the Lich already a few inches ahead of him.

He immediately grabbed Flux by the collar with an intimidating look.

"Guak" surprised Flux let out a word that seemed to be indicating he was hurt somewhere in between when he instantly grabbed him.

With an intimidating look, he started speaking. "I will be honest here. That attack almost killed me. I didn't know you had that kind of technique on your sleeve. I'd shown three opportunities for you and I almost died without even knowing them until you demonstrated them. I know you are different compared to the rest of humanity. You didn't reveal any flaws during our battle even in the hardest situation. You fought against me in my strongest form without getting hit once until your power had dried out. I know what levels you are in and I know I can kill you in one strike but what bothers me is how you performed your capabilities to their extent. You dodge my fastest attacks and even going so far to block them easily. Tell me how did you do that? Because those are all the reasons why I'm going to kill you."

Flux did not reveal any emotions or give hints to his questions. Instead, saying that he had given up is the right answer here.

However, this silence will probably be the reason to destroy every dream Flux had in this new world.

...

Somewhere near the two, with Flux now floating in the air after being grabbed in the collar, everyone nearby knows that something bad is about to happen and this was the time for them to intervene.

"What are we gonna do?" Someone said in a low voice.

"What do you mean? Let's just leave him there till he died- ack"

Before he could speak further, he was choked by two of their subordinates next to his side.

"He's useless just leave him there"

"I agree."

"but what are we supposed to do here now? We can't just possibly leave him there to die"

"Well, we can't just jump in there either. You know the speed at which that monster can go right?"

"Come on, he saved us by fighting that monster alone by damaging it as much as he could and bought us time to prepare."

"He's totally worn out but the gap in our power is incredibly big. Can we even scratch the Lich?"

Each of these people started debating whether they save Flux or not. But debating in this situation, can it be really helpful?

At this time, the captain who knew more urges himself to stand up before speaking. "There's no need to debate bois, the answer is already right in front of us."

In that one single answer, the determination of every person presents changed drastically.

Nod

They didn't wait for clarification and went ahead with no further delays.

Back to the two...

"I see. So you won't answer me huh..." Said Lich with a serious voice.

Grabbed...

In the next moment, his grip shifted from the collar to Flux's neck.

His grip gets harsh as the time passes without Flux saying any word. Yet, surprisingly, Flux did not answer to any of his questions despite his death nearing each second.

"So still no answer huh? I suppose there's no need to wait." Said Lich as he gathered a decent amount of energy on top of his right hand.

His hand shone brightly amidst the imperceptible darkness. If it wasn't for Flux's calculations, he might've mistaken those hands as the grim reaper.

"Do you have any last words?" Said, Lich.

To answer his curiosity, Flux began to speak slowly. "Those words... Were meant for you."

Lich's eyes broadly widened upon hearing him.

"What do you mean-"

Bang!

before he could do anything, he was slammed by an unknown person with a shield.

The Lich was shoved dozens of meters away from his previous spot. His body got crashed into some trees.

Flux who was unhand looked ahead of him.

Standing right in front of him was the third captain. Not quite clear because of the darkness and mist but Flux was sure it was him.

The captain spoke. "That was a good fight kid but with us present here you can now rest assured"

『 Stillness potion』

『 type: rare item』

『 can hide your presence while in a composed state』

Perhaps his arrival was a bit too unusual, Flux couldn't reply to him.

'Did you hit your head For you to come out just now? I thought you were scared because you guys were just there hiding in the dark' thought Flux.

Flux had already noticed their presence thanks to his eye but was disappointed when they didn't move at all to help him during his fight with the Lich.

But he couldn't deny that this was the best time for them to reveal themselves.

Shortly, a few warriors appeared one before another and said. "Leave the rest to us"

"Ah, I see. Thanks then?" Flux nodded.

Currently, he is a bit flustered. However, he couldn't hide the fact that he is grateful to them.

'But how are they gonna beat him?' Thought Flux while analyzing their strength.

If Flux were, to be honest, they had no chance of winning against the Lich but what made them confident is what made Flux think a few things deeper.

The captain muttered as though he had already calculated everything. "They should be here by now"

"By they, you mean there's more than all of you?" Said Flux out of curiosity.

The captain nodded. "Yes. If there's none, I wouldn't be confident enough to face him."

"..."

'I see so you guys were really scared' thought Flux as his thoughts on them reversed back to the original.

Swoosh! Swoosh swoosh!

Instantly, several women in their 20s appeared out of nowhere in front of them. They all look beautiful but what caught their attention was the one in the middle. She had orange vibrant hair and a beautiful face enough for everyone here to fall in love with her. Near reasonable to say she had fallen from heaven. It made them mesmerized but Flux and the captain who knew a lot were different.
