Chapter 26 - The dusk gives birth to werewolves

" Don't just stand there, lay the food on the table." Exposing their ears to their master's command, both the generals rushed out of the kitchen towards the hall. For a few minutes, both Edward and Sophia remained silent.

To Edward's calm and loving gaze, Sophia returned an anxious look. From her face, she appeared like someone tortured by a beast. She had her palms cover her face to refrain from looking at him. To her, he was a demon troubling her by trapping her.

" Come with me, Sophia." She removed her palms swiftly on hearing his sugary voice. Her stooped face stood up to look at his face." Though his eyes shimmer like eyes of God, deep inside he is as dark as a devil." her grit while overthinking, made Edward confused.

" Okay, I am coming." she radiated a feigned smile, knowing that the vampire saw her grit. Unwillingly, she walked around to join Eddie with her head turned back to keep her stare on both the fellows in the hall. Her mind was worried as she accompanied Eddie. Suddenly, his highness changed his route from the gateway of the Great hall. He grabbed Sophia's hand and strode with her to the uppermost tower.

They walked through several innumerable stairs, arranged in a loop-like structure. Sophia kept peeking down at the spiral of stairs, as they treaded ahead. Staring at them consistently, especially at a height, caused her dizziness. She raised her orbs at the vampire along her side. They had reached that section of the palace, which projected the spire, the top structure of the tower.

Sophia stroked the huge red pointed structure and looked inquisitively at his fellow vampire.

" Why are we here?" snapped Sophia, lowering her head to the bottom of that spire.

His fellow vampire didn't utter a single word. He kept gaping at the scene of sunset. The sun was dipping down to the horizon, giving the sky a blend of orange and dark blue.

" The sun of my life has set forever. There is darkness everywhere. It won't flash and show off its rays as before. It radiated a fallacy, hugged me with false hopes and dared to utter a word against me." Pronouncing the word so clearly and loudly, Eddie turned round to throw a glimpse at Sophia, who flinched at his stare.

Sophia's heart pounded at his possessiveness. His evolving into a wolf at midnight, surfaced in Sophia's mind. What was going on in that eccentric fellow's mind? He was glancing at Sophia in the same way her lover used to. Sophia's eyelids advanced in a jerk. She could sense his fuelled cravings.

She drew back as Eddie lost his senses. Eddie's eyes flamed up until they switched their hue. He shifted his position. He was no longer standing on two legs but four. He slowly crawled his hind legs towards Sophia, who cupped her face between her index finger and thumb. Her eyes gave out a shocking expression.

Eddie's entire human-like body grew grey hairs. The sharp hair shafts continued to grow until they covered the whole of Eddie's muscular physique. His facial structures changed. His mouth extended ahead to exhibit a pointed muzzle. His ears raised and he was then a complete life portrait of a werewolf.

This spectacle raised Sophia's goosebumps.

She continued to trudge back as the wolf in front of her wagged his tail up and down. He displayed his fangs to the frightened dainty girl, who concealed her face with her soft hands. She was afraid of falling prey. She parted her lips slightly and let out a shout" Somebody help me!" her trembling voice echoed throughout the palace.

The werewolf lowered his body to his forward hind legs, ready to hop on Sophia. When he hopped like a frog, ready to fall on his prey, Sophia wrinkled her shut eyes. Suddenly, William, Henry and Max approached the terrace, opened the door and shot a bright yellow glimmer from the majesty's ruby-coated stick.

The wolf dropped to the floor, unconscious. Slowly, It lost its hairs, its wolf-like claws, muzzle and ears. A blue mist stood up from the wolf's body, transforming its body into a human body, and slowly Eddie became visible." Amm, where am I?" Eddie mumbled.

" Your highness, you were about to attack this girl. You had transformed into a wolf. We approached here only after hearing her cries." Henry conversed as rapidly as he could, hampering his tone only at the last sentence.

Sophia dropped to the floor, her legs parted to her sides. She continued to sob harder with her palms pressed against her face. Her groans were audible to every member, standing beside the spire.

Eddie's eyes opened in shock. He sprinted towards the dainty lady, standing beside her being. He spoke in a genuinely apologetic tone" I am so sorry, dear, I didn't expect this to happen. I rarely transform into a wolf, but when I do, there's always a reason, or say a selfish desire or craving, which when unfulfilled, renders this."His staggering voice, to make clear the incident, didn't produce a positive response.

On the contrary, Sophia began to sob even harder than before. The vampire signalled his generals to take care of her. It's because Sophia felt comfortable communicating with both, Henry and William over him and Max.

"Would do anything to make you happy. William and Henry, take care of her. Make her eat the food. Serve my dinner in my room." Before leaving, he had a last glimpse at the distressed damsel. He wanted to embrace her and make her believe that he was fond of her, but his one-sided admiration was hardly noticed by this girl.

Without waiting further for her to lift her mood, he left the terrace like an inconsiderate fellow. He was a beast in her mind. When she raised her body, she hugged both the generals, and shook Max's hand but completely ignored the presence of one peeking at her from the farther end.

"Master, everything would be alright," Max uttered these words inside his mind, read only by him and his master." Thanks, Max, you always lift me from miseries." His master curved his lips and radiated them from the farther end. Their telepathy was unknown to the three fellows, chatting with each other.

It was a secret of the royal family which saved Max from execution as well. The reason for such telepathy was a special liquor, which was discovered by luck. It could be produced only once in a hundred years, as the facts explained.
