Chapter 31 - Leaving the palace

They had passed, hand in hand, through the dark chambers slowly and carefully. Frank's footsteps produced a creaking sound as he placed his feet heavily on the floor. This would make Sophia alarm herself, narrowing her gaze at his boots.

The path was darker and clearer, in the same fashion, Sophia entered that palace for the first time. But this time, she wasn't nervous. She was mesmerized by the aesthetic allure when Chandeliers flashed golden lights below, supported by torch sticks set in the corners.

" Can Vampires survive this heat?" Sophia's orbs turned at the flames gleaming on her fellow's body. He was looking straight, his face set calmly and the question of heat disturbing his body never popped into Sophia's mind again. Maybe, these vampires contain some advanced knowledge that they as humans failed to discover.

They reached the main door that was dyed dark brown, appearing like a gateway to a giant. It was quite big for humanity. It was three times the height of Sophia. She would trail her gazes up like a snail and jerk, halting her gaze at the top. As they drew closer to the gate, Frank gripped the latch, which was the length of his whole arm, and nudged it open.

The darkness faded away and the clear blue sky became visible to sight. Sophia's pupils radiated as she roamed her lifted head to peek at the glamorous sky. In front of them, laid a meandering path. She gave a puff of relaxation as she pinned and danced her body on the green grass, along the path.

The pathway was arranged with pebbles of different hues, which when looked at from the balcony radiated a scene of pegasus carved out on the entire pebble set together. The art remained invisible during dusk and had relevance during the dawn.

" This is so mind-pleasing and aesthetic, Frank. This palace is no doubt wonderful, I will have to say. Why did you leave it?" She asked curiously in a childish tone. " That I can't answer, miss. I have my reasons." Throwing a grave response to Sophia's curiosity, he gripped her hand tightly and walked hand in hand away from the area. His facial expression was neutral. It seemed like he had no interest in any matters relating to the palace, except for its wealth.

" Where are you taking me? Frank." Sophia asked softly, making Frank shift his orbs to face her. " I am taking you to my deluxe car. We have to leave this place today." Saying so, he winked his eyes at her and positioned his head straight.

" One more thing I want to ask, Frank." Sophia halted her steps.

Her statement made Frank turn round to face her. His distressed face, slouching body and dropped shoulders gave a hint to Sophia that he was tired. Sophia raised her head to peak at the wretched fellow. " Oh, it seems like you are bored, Frank. I will cease my questioning. I will ask them on the comfy car couch." after completing her sentence, she pinched his cheeks, making him stand upright.

"Come, Milady! our car is waiting. " Pronouncing his words in a neutral tone, he pulled out the car keys from his pocket. As he pressed the button on the key, with his thumb, a beep rang, ten feet away from their location.

" Oh, there is your car. Let's go there." Sophia voiced with joy, pointing her finger at the automobile.

On approaching the car, Sophia began stroking her fingers on it. It was a black model of "Aston Martin". Sophia's pupils expanded. In her orbs, one could glimpse a reflection of this car, as she roamed her gaze till its full length.

Suddenly, the door of the car opened up. Sophia lifted her hands off the car door. Two heavily built gentlemen, dressed in a neat black coat with sunglasses, stood in front of her. Their faces maintained contact with their master, standing at a distance, while Sophia stopped in their middle. Her gazes moved to both Frank and the gentlemen, at the same time.

" Kindly have my lady seated. I am coming in a few minutes." Saying so, Frank pointed his two long-held fingers at them and lifted his brows, to which the gentlemen addressed by bowing low. " We will take care of her, sir." answered one of the gentlemen in a neutral voice.

" Who are you?" Sophia asked one of the gentlemen. " We are his attendants, Lady. Don't worry! Just sit in the car" Conversing so he raised his head again to look straight.

Sophia seated herself in the car. She closed her eyes in relaxation, imagining her new life with Frank. But the fact that he was a vampire somehow meddled with her euphoria. She wasn't sure whether she would live happily with him or not.

She was scared of those blood-drinking creatures who showed mercy on no one. The stories about vampires deceiving their lovers tried to crush her faith in love and even took away her peace at night. Her aunt often taught her the negative side of vampires, veiling the positive side just to keep her frightened.

But the modern stories of today taught her about love between Vampires and female humans. Her mind was puzzled between both the stories.

One acted like a devil while the other was like an angel and both placed themselves on Sophia's both sides of shoulder, opposite each other. She acts as an executor and the decision maker in between.

The devil said hate vampires, while the angel with a sweet gentle voice like that of Sophia, said every vampire is different, like humans with different natures. You may find difficulty in selecting the right and wrong one. it's better to study their behaviours and make no haste.

Thinking this made Sophia sneer. According to her, she had already made a choice and that was the most appropriate and suitable for her. It was her choice for 'Frank over Eddie'. She had invested her faith in him, despite the opposition she faced from several vampires.
