Chapter 29 - No trust!

"W-Well... considering the scale of his attack, I have no choice but to give him a passing grade."

Kito said somewhat awkwardly, Kito looked over at the destroyed walls where the protective magic formation was formally placed, and his hazel eyes shone with complicated emotions. The protective formation that was place there was one of the second highest level.

Generally, magic can be placed into three different categories. From Standard, advanced to epic. The scale and power of the magic depends on whichever category it is placed in, and the protective formations carved on the walls were one of the advanced levels.

Normally It should be impossible for anyone to destroy a magic formation one level higher than the one the caster used.

Lauren was already aware of this fact but, even though in her heart she knew how amazing and impossible of a feat it was to use a standard attack like 'Thunder spear' to destroy a formation of the 'Advanced' level somehow, she was able to keep her composure unlike Kito who was staring at Kenta with eyes filled with disbelief.

Kenta himself didn't seem to realize how abnormal his attack was to do something like that as he continued to stare at the destroyed doll.

"His attack was definitely impressive."

Hearing the words of Kito Lauren smiled gently before walking over to Kenta who was still standing before the destroyed doll. The sound of her footsteps instantly caught his attention as he quickly turned and faced her with a complicated light shining in his deep blue pupils.

"Congrats!"

She said cheerfully. Her blue colored eyes were as sweet as honey as she looked at him gently. However, Kenta's brow furrowed into a frown. He couldn't quite figure out the woman before him at all, was she doing this with ulterior motive? Or was she this nice to everyone? Kenta couldn't bring himself to trust people that easy.

Though Kenta wasn't an intransigent person nor was he pertinacious. He clearly understood that not everyone has the same calculative mindset as the arrogant fellows he had met so far but still... He couldn't easily open his heart to them.

The same people who could easily stab him in the back when it's to their own convenience, remembering the sight of his parent's final moments while everyone else just stand there and watched continued to play inside his head.

His gazed then shifted to the Tony who was still glaring at him as though he wanted to tear him apart.

'As expected, I can't trust anyone! How could I? In the end these people are just selfish people who only cared about their own interest.'

Kenta took small deep breaths as though to calm down his heightened emotions, his hands which were folded tightly into a fist was placed into his pocket as he gazed indifferently towards Lauren who was walking over to him.

"Isn't it great? Now you can get your own identification card! Which means you can easily become a royal knight."

Lauren said beaming happily. however, contrary to her happy expression Kenta showed a bitter face before replying coldly.

"... I have no desire nor interest to join those so-called royal knights."

"Eh! Really? Joining the royal knights is an easy way to make money and live a stable life but, you're not interested."

Lauren blinked her eyes repeatedly in a show of great surprise. Originally, she thought he would want to join the royal knight to live a lavish life, she had even secretly plan on making him her own bodyguard but, that doesn't seem to be the case. Not only his expression but his eyes also showed no signs of being interested in such things.

".... I see, in that case can you tell me what your plans are after receiving your own identification card?"

She inquired curiously. Kenta stayed silent for a while before speaking with a slightly complicated expression.

"Why is it that you want to know that?"

Kenta asked narrowing his eyes. Seeing that Lauren raised her neatly shaped eyebrow.

"I noticed this before but, you really do have some serious trust issues, don't you?"

Lauren said but kept a smile on her face, Kenta looked at her for a few minutes before sighing.

"I wanted to enter the academy."

He said curtly.

"Oh, the magic academy within the city of Azuri, right?"

She asked. Kenta nodded his head indifferently. The magic academy of the city of Azuri was among the best in the entire kingdom. It was so renowned that even those from outside the country normally attends classes there.

Though, it wasn't the school itself that was so adored by everyone but the teachers there. Among them was a magic user who was well prominent and is formally known as the 'Sorcerer king' Kenta actually didn't plan on attending that academy but, after doing some deep thinking he decided to go there to learn magic if he ever had the potential to use magic.

".... I see, interesting. Actually, I'm also planning to attend that school during the opening ceremony a month from now, why don't we go there together?"

She suddenly suggested, taking Kenta by surprise. But he didn't allow his surprise to show on his face instead he looked into her eyes before turning away.

"I see. In that case I'll see you there."

He said simply. However, it didn't seem like she wanted to end the conversation just like that and quickly made another suggestion.

"How about you stay with me until then, what do you say?"

She asked. With Kenta having so much magic power to be able to influence the weather and being able to destroy an advanced level magic formation simply with a standard level magic attack she didn't want to just let go of such a powerful existence.

Even if she leaves aside that magic sword that exuded such a tremendous aura just now, the boy before her was obviously destined to be a powerful warrior in the future.

No one in their right mind would ignore such a terrifying existence.

Kenta sighed deeply as he once again turned his head to the Lauren who was smiling at him with a truly pure smile like that of an innocent child, even if her intention was pure, he had no intentions of ever joining her. Why should he? He was sure he was more than capable of living on his own from now on.

He was confident he now had enough power to protect himself from any danger that could potentially come his way in the future. Also, agreeing to her proposal would end up hindering his plans before the opening ceremony of the magic academy. Kenta simply shook his head gently before speaking.

"No, unfortunately I have somethings I wanted to do after this.... well see each other at the opening ceremony."

He replied, before walking away. Lauren could only smile bitterly as she saw the indifferentness in his eyes. 'Sigh, looks like bringing him over to my side won't be easy, oh well... I'll have plenty of options once we see each other there.' she secretly thought.

Lauren then made eye contact with Kito informing him to continue, he nodded his head before speaking. "Now, those of you who had passed please follow me." He said before walking into a particular direction.

Seeing the direction, he was heading Kenta couldn't help but raised an eyebrow in confusion. The path before Kito was nothing more than a closed wall with nothing particularly special about it, it looked just like any other wall inside the training ground. Everyone else aside from Lauren and Tony had the same confused face as Kenta.

However, before the confused face of everyone, the seemingly normal looking wall glowed brightly, and a loud 'thud' could be heard as an entrance appeared before Kito. A pathway of 10 diameter was formed. Kenta couldn't help but widened his blue colored eyes in surprise. it looked like someone had took out a square block from the wall.

Seeing the clear surprise on his face Lauren couldn't help but chuckle to herself. "Are you surprise? This is known as a magic door, a door that had earth magic embedded within them." she explained. "Usually, an earth magic user would use them for building secret bases or secret entry just like you just saw, Kito is also known as a skilled earth magic user." she continued.

Kenta didn't say anything but nodded his head. "Hmm... um, Kenta your shoulder. Does it hurt?"

Lauren inquired curiously. It was at this point that Kenta finally noticed the state his injured right shoulder was in. Back when Tony had fired his 'Air cutter' it had managed to make contact with Kenta's shoulders due to the things happening he never got the opportunity to heal his shoulder.

His shirt was slightly torn, and his exposed shoulder could be seen covered with blood. 'Tch, if I had killed that bastard back then this injury would have already been healed already.' He cursed internally.

Even though he didn't understand the principles of it, he knew that whenever he had killed something he is able to absorb their life energy in some way allowing him to heal from all wounds but, this time he couldn't do that since the issues were settled if he did anything now things would most likely take a turn for the worst for him.

Because not only would he not be able to get his identification card he would also break whatever connection he had with Lauren, especially since he knew he could use her in some way.

Kenta sighed quietly before gently rubbing his injured shoulder. "Hmm?" When Kenta looked over his shoulders his eyes made contact with the eyes of Tony, even though he didn't say anything It was clear that Tony was going to start trouble for him sooner or later seeing this a smirk was formed on Kenta's lips 'Good.... I'll allow him to come to me.' he secretly thought as he followed behind Kito into a dark passageway.
