Chapter 30 - His potential cannot be measured!

The sound of everyone's footsteps dominated the pathway as they followed behind Kito who was walking ahead in a horizontal line.

The interior of the passageway was surprisingly wide and spacious despite the larger number of them inside it didn't feel crowded at all.

They walked for thirty minutes in silence and even though there was no outside light source there thanks to the appearance of the green colored lanterns setup here and there they had complete awareness of their surroundings.

"Why exactly are we heading in this direction?" Kenta inquired curiously. Lauren who was walking one step behind him heard his question and answered in a melodious voice. "From what I heard from those who had already came here, we are going to a special room that has the identification cards placed in them." She said answering his question fluently.

"... I see, but is it really necessary for them to be placed here?" Kenta asked. At that Lauren looked at Kenta curiously, because of his long blonde hair which hid his face slightly from her current position she couldn't quite see his expression.

"Umm, Kenta you do understand the requirements for having the identification card, right?" She asked him in a faint voice so that no one could overhear their conversation. At her question Kenta frowned. Honestly, he didn't know anything other than the fact that things might be easier for him if he got one.

Seeing him shake his head Lauren sighed before speaking. "The identification card served as a card to identify one's identity.... but. That's not all... it also shows the owners rank abilities and potential, anyone who wishes to use magic has to have their own identification card to see their current levels as well as their potential but, in order for it to work the owner must drop a small droplet of their blood onto the card, doing so the card will recognize you as its owner." She explained.

"However, there are some cases where the magic power becomes unstable and go out of control when the card is trying to absorb the mana within the owner and so, to prevent any damage it was decided that they must issue the identification card inside a room where the user's power is unlikely to go out of control." she said releasing a deep breath as she finishes her explanation.

"Oh, in that case wherever were going must be strong enough to endure the pressure of anyone's power going out of control then." Kenta said placing his finger at his chin in thought.

Now he was even more curious about their current destination.

No one spoke after that as they kept following after Kito's figure that kept growing more and more distant.

Sometimes Kenta would feel the powerful killing intent of Tony who was still glaring at his back as though he was looking at his most hated enemy but, he pretended not to notice anything as he kept a passive expression on his face.

Finally, Kito came to a stop, he then reached out his hand on the surface of the wall and a green magic formation appeared there soon the wall shifted to the side and a room became visible before everyone present. 'Earth magic really is amazing.' Kenta thought as he stared at the interior of the room. He didn't know anything about the element of lightning, how strong was it when compared with the others, how freely would he be able to manipulate such an element he was extremely curious.

But he was sure of one thing considering that the lightning element was so rare it was going to be a very powerful one.

How well would it work with his broad sword? He was definitely going to test it out once he had taken care of this matter.

Once everyone had entered the room their eyes widened as they saw the wide and spacious interior, even though the room was deep underground there wasn't a single dirt on the white tile like floor. The room was filled with many different furnishings as decorations.

But what really caught everyone's eyes was the large square shaped table which had many palms size card placed on the surface. Once everyone had calm down Kito turned around and stared at the faces of them each before moving to the side. "Now then could you all take one of these cards and drop a droplet of blood on it." Kito said gesturing towards the cards.

Everyone nodded their heads before moving to the cards.

Kenta and Lauren didn't move right away considering their large numbers they naturally waited for the crowd to settled down before going there. Many of the participants did as they were told, they drop a droplet of their blood onto the card, the card absorbed it and instantly their name, rank and element as well as their potential was shown there.

Some had proud expressions on their faces while some had disappointment there.

Name: Tony Harts

Rank: 2

Class: Great

Element: Fire

Potential: 500

Tony's face lit up as he read the words imprinted on the card in his hand. He then turned to look at Kenta standing in the distance and snorted in disgust. Kenta naturally ignore the looks on Tony as he finally took a card from the table.

Kenta bit his index finger and place a small droplet of his blood onto the card. The card absorbed it and words soon appeared on the card.

...

Kenta didn't notice it but, inside a dark space the soul eater sword stirred slightly as Kenta placed his blood onto the card. The patterns glowed faintly illuminating the dark space.

...

Name: Kenta Logan

Rank: Unknown

Class: Unreadable

Element: Lightning

Potential: Immeasurable

"Hmm, my rank is unknown, and my class is unreadable. What does that mean? And I can't figure out my potential either? Was there some kind of glitch?" Kenta wondered out loud. He couldn't tell whether or not this was a good thing or a bad thing, the only thing he knew was his element. Looking around his surroundings he couldn't find anyone who had a glitch in their card he seemed to be the only one.

'Why just me?' His confusion grew further as he stared at everyone else inside the room before looking back at his identification card. Meanwhile, Lauren also placed a drop of her blood onto her card and instantly writing appeared on her card.

Name: Lauren Elmir

Rank: 2

Class: Great

Element: Water

Potential: 700

Lauren instantly smiled happily as she read her identification card seemingly satisfied with the results. Just when she was about to turn and go back to her original spot her blue colored eyes landed on Kenta who was looking at his card with a somewhat conflicted expression, she then moved closer to his side and peered at his face closely.

"Are you confused about something else?" she asked him in a soft voice. Kenta turn and face her with a serious expression and showed her his card.

Normally one would not like to show others their own identification card since the outsider would be able to see the owner's strength but, currently he didn't seem to care about that as he placed it before her without much concern, there wasn't anything on the card anyway other than his name and element, so he didn't really care.

"Do you know why my rank, class and potential isn't appearing?" He inquired. ".... This. I've never seen something like this before." Lauren said while staring at the card incredulously. Usually as soon as the owners blood fell onto the card the owner's status should have shown up if everything went well and, since his magic power didn't go out of control Kenta's status should have shown up already. Lauren shook her head with a contemplative expression on her face.

"Um! Perhaps Sir Kito would know." she said glancing at Kito who was standing in the far corner of the room. Kenta nodded his head strongly, perhaps he would have answers about this strange abnormality. Lauren grabbed Kenta's arm and pulled him towards Kito who was standing in the distant.

"Sir Kito could you explained what happened here?" Lauren asked her neatly shaped eyebrow turning in full seriousness. Kenta gave a full explanation about what had happened with his identification card and waited for Kito's own explanation.

"Hmm. Unfortunately, I don't quite understand what had happened here, if you did the process correctly then it should have been a success." Kito said somewhat confused. Even he didn't know Kenta couldn't help but feel a little disappointed. He was really curious about his limits and potentials after all what he was going to do not something simple.

He wanted to take revenge against the ones who had killed his parents which means he would have to go up against the royal family who had many powerful magic sword users as well as powerful magic users, if his potentials were low then his chances of pulling this off was also low probably impossible.

'I guess I'll have to leave my fate to chance if worse comes to worse.' He thought clenching his fist. He didn't know what his rank was but if he trained, he could easily grow strong either way. The biggest problem was his potential.

While Kenta was thinking of what he should do now that he can't find out his potential, Kito was also wondering what was happening.

He knew very well that something like this has never happened before, aside from a few inexperience fellows losing control of their magic power, an instance where the identification card makes a mistake has never happened before such a thing was simply impossible. Unless.... "Could it be? His potentials were too high to be measured accurately by the card." a terrifying thought appeared inside his mind but, he instantly denied it.
