Chapter 30 - Their first day

Josh had been late to wake up today, which seemed to be the usual occurrence as of late. Tom would always be waiting at his front door by the time he had finished getting ready and had taken something from the fridge for breakfast on the go.

He wore a beige, sleeveless sweater over a plain, white shirt with blue jeans and mismatched socks, one blue and the other red with white spots. His style had gone through a drastic change at some point, he used to wear lots of merchandise from lots of different fandoms. He also used to wear more casual and comfortable clothing, mostly consisting of hoodies and sweats, but now seemed to prefer wearing mismatched and lighter-coloured smart-casual clothing.

Josh called out to his mother about leaving to go to school, he waited a moment but didn't hear a reply. He proceeded to open the door and was greeted with the sight of Tom's face.

"I keep telling you, you should just come in rather than just standing there and waiting outside." Josh smiled whilst saying.

Tom was wearing something similar to Josh, a cream-coloured sweater vest over a pink-tinged long-sleeved shirt, with light brown slacks and white loafers over a light grey sock paired with a darker grey sock. He also had on a light brown coloured coat, however, it looked thin and didn't seem as though it was doing a good job at keeping out the cold.

Josh lifted one of his hands and touched Tom's face gently, "Isn't it colder than usual today? It's winter now. You have to take better care of yourself" he chided, Tom's face was cold to the touch, Tom seemed to almost lean into the warmth that he had received from Josh's hand.

Josh's mother then came up from behind him, "You're right, it does seem colder. You should take care of yourself too."

Josh, who had turned to look at his mother, nodded and smiled. "It'll be fine, besides it's getting late so we need to rush off now."

"Wait for just a second," his mother replied whilst grasping his shoulder to stop him from leaving. "let me get your scarf at least." without waiting for a reply she turned around and went back inside, Josh had stretched out his arm to stop her but to no avail.

He sighed and smiled before waiting helplessly. "I'm sorry, do you mind waiting with me here for just a moment?" he asked, turning back to Tom.

"It's fine," he replied with a warm smile, then added snarkily, "I've been waiting for over ten minutes anyway, a couple more seconds isn't a big deal."

"Hey! You could've come in, but chose not to. That's on you, man." Josh replied as he lifted his arms and shrugged with a smile.

Josh's mother then returned, a scarf in her hands, the scarf was fluffy and had blue and white checkers. She stopped in front of Josh and turned him around to face her, when they were face to face she elegantly wrapped the scarf around him. On the other hand, Josh was pretending to choke from the scarf being too tight and was clawing at his neck.

This caused Tom and his mother to laugh, Tom turned away and tried suppressing his laughter whilst his mother just giggled slightly and bonked him on the head gently, "You and your antics..."

She proceeded to send the boys off, "Have a good day at school! Don't be late." She then closed the door in their faces and went to get herself ready.

"Honestly, auntie should've just strangled you with the scarf," Tom said after the door was closed.

"Hey!" Josh called out, an expression of mock sadness on his face, he pouted and tried to pull a cutesy face to make Tom feel guilty.

However, instead of feeling guilty Tom jumped backwards, "That's it. That's the face I see in my nightmares."

"That's what you meant?! I'm not that ugly..." He grumbled in complaint, "H-Hey! Wait for me..." He called out when Tom started walking away hurriedly and leaving him behind. He then rushed after him.

When he'd caught up to Tom he grabbed his arm causing Tom to turn his face to look at him, "Hey man, you've been outside for a while, do you want my scarf? Your cheeks were freezing, they're all red and all..." he said with a worried expression on his face.

"No, I'm alright, besides I'm not a wimp like you. I don't fear the cold." Tom stuck his tongue out as he replied.

and as they were half walking half rushing to school they were chattering about random things.

There were loads of people walking around the campus, it was so crowded that Tom had opted to grab onto Josh's coat sleeve to not get lost and separated. After all, it was their first day so he was unfamiliar with the layout of the school and didn't know anyone else there.

They both then walked through the gates and then a boy ran up to them. He'd seen them walk through the gate and had rushed over to the both of them as soon as they'd entered the campus.

"Hey, you're new here right?" He asked a smile plastered onto his face.

The boy was of average stature, he seemed to be slightly above average height and had a warm aura around him. He had a nice smile and what most would consider an attractive face, this was supported by the fact he'd walked towards them from a group filled with girls and some other handsome guys. They also all seemed to have stopped talking as soon as he'd left and were instead all looking at him.

He had glasses with grey-green eyes and chestnut brown side-swept hair, he wore a brown trench coat over a denim jacket over a white t-shirt, and he had on blue jeans and black boots.

"I'm ——, nice to meet you. Would you like me to give you a tour? I've been here a while and know the place like the back of my hand."

"Ah, I'm Josh, nice to meet you..." said Josh politely, a friendly smile on his face. "And this is Tom," he said whilst pointing behind himself.
