After a couple of minutes, the giant bridge unfolded automatically and lay strongly on the death tunnel. The surrounding was quiet as a graveyard. For a couple of minutes, no one took their eyes from the gigantic and magnificent bridge.
Suddenly, a young man in a dazzling blue robe walked over the bridge in a small step. All eyes were on him, and their breath quickened.
Al Casendra stopped at the center of the bridge and looked downward. He saw the cold, sharp steel and his heart skipped. 'This scary. I hope I won't be a victim of my creation again.' He shook his head slightly. 'Nay. It's impossible.' He took a deep breath and walked to the other side of the bridge successfully.
Hurray!
No one knew who shouted hurray. However, both old and young joined the chants and shouted hurray. Al Casendra curled his lips and a slight smile appeared on his face. 'This refreshing.' Quickly, the smile disappeared from his face. He clapped his hand twice.
"Yes. Your highness." Old James shouted. At once, Old James climbed the back of the bull and rode them over the bridge. When everyone saw this, their eyes widened. However, Old James crossed the bridge successfully and came back, smiling.
"Why are you looking at me like that." Old James snickered. "Go and test it if you want." He said proudly.
After testing the bridge hundreds of times. The people were sure nothing will happen when crossing the bridge. The gaze directed at Al Casendra changed. Their eyes were filled with awe and adoration. How can a genius be a cursed child?. They gossiped among themselves.
Suddenly, a loud cry came from the forest. What! Another monster beast attacked. The joyous atmosphere disappeared at once. Panic filled the air. All eyes turned to the prince. Al Casendra stood on the city wall. His back was straight like a pole with his flowing backward amid the gentle wind.
Sir John was yet to recover from the shock. He stared blankly at Al Casendra with his mouth a little ajar. 'How can you hide such a grand design from your protector.' He shouted in his mind. However, when he heard another cry from the forest. He regained his bearing and cleared his throat.
"What are we going to do?" He asked. "Should we be prepared for the—" he tilted his head and thought of the confusing word. 'Why the hell can't I remember this word. B what?' He creased his brow. 'B-b-b… bunker. Yes! Bunker.' He cleared his throat.
"Should I prepare the bunker?"
Al Casendra gave a cursory glance. 'How can you always forget the word bunker?' He snickered in his mind. He waves his hand and looked in the forest direction. Sir John widened his eyes.
"What!" He gasped. He blinked his eyes and moved closer to Al Casendra. "Are you serious?"
Al Casendra nodded. Sir John opened his mouth, but the word failed to come out. He closed his mouth and took a deep breath. 'If you don't want to go to the bunker. Then I will have to carry you when the time comes.'
He snorted in his heart.
Suddenly, a footstep rushed toward the top of the city wall. Gasping for air, an elderly woman appeared, wiping the sweats from her forehead.
"Your highness. Everything is ready." She said one word after another.
Al Casendra nodded. He made a quick hand gesture and stared at Sir John. Sir John saw his blue gaze and gulped. He averted his eyes and said. "The prince said you should procure the material to the necessary location immediately."
"Ok. I'm on it." At once, the elderly woman rushed down the stairs.
Roy and Lily appeared on the city wall with a troubled gaze. However, none of them spoke. They stared at Al Casendra sporadically, inhaling deeply. The atmosphere in the city had changed. The clear sky darkened. The foreboding feeling spread throughout the city.
Suddenly, a group of people rode a cart out of the city. They stopped a couple of meters from the death tunnel and arranged various woods on top of each other while pouring a strange liquid. At the top of the woods, they placed yellow flowers. The group worked quickly with trembling hands.
Another cry came from the forest. However, this cry was closer to the city. The group of people working in the woods shivered. Their spine was drenched in cold sweats. They rushed to finish their job while the elderly woman continue to shout orders.
Al Casendra withdrew a scroll and gave it to Sir John. Immediately, Sir John unfolded it and read the content. He furrowed and stared at Al Casendra for a moment.
Whoosh.
Sir John disappeared from the City wall. Roy and Lily looked at each other and held their breath.
'What's the prince doing!?' They shouted in their mind.
"We are done." A young woman shouted, facing the elderly woman.
"Good! Let's return to the city." The elderly woman shouted and jumped on her horse and rode it quickly to the city.
When the group entered the city, they breathe a sigh of relief, wiping the drenching sweats from their forehead. A loud thud of footstep echoed near the city wall. A group of guards rushed upward the city wall with bows and arrows in their hands. And behind the guards were men and women of various ages from 14 upward.
On top of the city wall, everyone looked at the Prince in trepidation. Though some tried to hide it, their trembling lips and darting eyes gave them away. Standing beside the Prince, Sir John cleared his throat.
"The Prince has decided it's time for us to defend our lovely city. With you here, we believe we can repel the monster attack." Sir John force out a smile.
'This is crazy. All of them are novice mages. How can they fight against rank 2 and 3 monster beasts? This is suicide.' He cried in his heart.
"Don't you agree?" He asked, showing his teeth.
The group of novice mages, lesser than a hundred, looked at each other and swallowed the lumps in their throat. After waiting for a couple of seconds with no response. Sir John nodded and began to give a command to the mage.
Suddenly, a young man asked. "What if we can't defend against the monster attack?"
"Then we hide in the bunker and prepare again." Sir John replied with a confident smile.
A sigh of relief escaped from the mages. Everyone stood in their position with trembling legs. However, when they saw the prince. Their worry lessened. 'Since the prince is here. We have nothing to worry about.' They thought.
Al Casendra looked at Sir John and communicated with his hand. "Raise the bridge." Sir John shouted.
