Chapter 1 - 1. A boy without a name

In a kingdom called Farland, the people live their lives on the brink of death where at any moment they could die without a trace.

These were the people of the Bonnie's, the horrible city for the lost and never found. A dumping place for all that is useless and invaluable.

With its run-down buildings, and littered streets that were patterned with dead bodies and smelt of them too.

In Bonnie's, there were a lot of children who had been neglected, thrown away, or even orphaned who lived there in whatever situation they could make for themselves.

Among these was a 16-year-old boy who had been orphaned as a young child. He had no name at least none that anyone knew of so most people called him Nameless.

*****

It was a fairly hot day in the Kingdom of Farland and all the people living in the city of Drew's were relaxing since today was a day of relaxation and preparation for the day ahead.

The streets were fairly quiet with the occasional mumbling of small groups of people here and there but the silence was eventually broken by a scream of distress.

"Ah, someone catch that vermin. He's stolen my purse."

At once all the chivalrous men that were close by sprung from their positions and began to quickly chase a young blonde boy about the age of 16 years but the young boy was a cunning weasel that continuously made sharp turns that left the men seated on their buttocks.

"Damn it, where is he?" thought the blonde boy before taking another turn to the right.

Eventually, as the boy was running at full speed the police joined in on the fun and also began to chase him but unlike the men before these were a little less clumsy.

The boy's heart began to pound so fast that he could hear his heartbeat resonating through the streets.

"Damn it, these are hard to shake off and I can't use my full speed or else..."

As the boy was in his thoughts while running away from the officers he heard a familiar voice calling his name.

"Finally. He's here."

"Yo Rune pass me the bag."

"Fine."

The blonde-haired boy passes the bag over to the black-haired boy that was calling his name.

The black-haired boy held onto a hang-line that ran from one window to another in the cramped street and landed between the officers and the blonde-haired boy.

"Officers I have your bag here."

He then turned to the blonde-haired boy and told him to run away to the sewer and the blonde boy did just that leaving the black-haired boy behind.

"Hey stop right there."

"Am afraid that can't happen, officer. Look I have the bag that you want so leave him alone."

"So you're that nameless kid I've had about."

"And you're the western retard that came to this kingdom."

"Huh, you've got balls for a kid living in Bonnie's but you'll learn that I'm not that kind to children."

"I never expected kindness from a brute like you that probably eats the livers of children."

"Eh, why don't we test that?"

The officer then clenched his fist and trusted it to the boy who dodged the attack easily. The officer continued to try to punch or grab the kid but he kept on dodging all his attacks.

As the boy was dodging the large officer's fists he also kept on observing the officer's movements looking for an opening that he finally got and sent a devastating punch into the large officer's side that made him fall to the ground in pain.

"Damn, that kid has a punch."

TSK

With a click of his teeth, he signalled to all the other officers to surround the boy and attack him at once which they did very quickly.

In a matter of seconds, the boy was surrounded though despite this he stood tall showing no sign of fear or backing down.

With a whistle from the large officer, the other officers ran to the kid and began to attack him all together.

The black-haired boy tried his hardest to fight them off but they eventually caught him and began to beat him up badly so much so that he began to bleed from his mouth and nose.

When they all felt satisfied, they dropped him to the ground and gave him a few more kicks before taking the purse and walking away.

"Say kid, In this world those with balls that can't fight are as valuable as rotting meat."

The officers walked away happily ready to return the back to the woman.

"Tsk, those bastards."

The black-haired boy stood up and began limping in the direction that the blonde boy ran to.

In a run-down house in the Bonnie's, the blonde-haired boy was eagerly waiting for the black-haired boy to arrive pacing back and forth and questioning whether he should go and check on him or not.

But just as he was going to reach for the door, the black-haired boy walked in all bloody and beaten up.

"Hey, are you okay?"

"Yeah, I'm fine just waiting for my body to regenerate completely."

"But did you do that? Do you care so much about this bag that you are willing to delay your regeneration just to get beat up?"

"Yeah, this bag can fetch us a full week's worth of food. My body can handle those brutes punches but you need food."

"So do you. Did you forget that you're a demon as well?"

"Shh. We can't risk having others know about us."

The blonde-haired boy then removed his hands from his mouth and looked around. He sighed upon seeing that nobody was around.

"You know very well Rune that if you don't eat enough your unit will go feral and you may end up causing unwanted attention."

"Thanks for everything, Zero. So tomorrow we'll just sell what is inside the purse and we'll be okay till next week, right."

"Yeah, that's the plan. So today let's get some sleep."

The two boys lay out some run-down bed sheets on the floor, put out their fire and drifted off to sleep.

The next day

The two boys were waiting in a long line of people going to sell their scraps to Uncle Tom, the scrap broker.

In the Bonnie's other than taking up cleaning tasks, this was the only way of getting money or even food.

Uncle Tom would collect scraps from people and give them money. Though the money given was usually very little hardly enough to buy a loaf of bread the people had no choice.

After what felt like a year of waiting finally it was Rune and Zero's turn.

"Uncle Tom, nice day today."

"Oh, if it isn't my least favourite customer. What do you want Nameless?"

"Well, I would like 60 silver shillings, kind sir."

"Oh, with what goods."

Rune handed the purse over to Zero who placed it onto the broker's table.

"With these."

He began to slowly pull out the contents of the bag one by one.

"First of all, we have a pearl bracelet worth at least 100 shillings, next is a noble printed and scented handkerchief worth about 10 shillings, a golden ring worth 110 shillings, chocolate worth 60 shillings, and finally the bag itself worth at least a few 70 shillings."

The broker looked at the merchandise carefully with shire amusement in his eyes. In total all those things would cost up to well over 300 shillings but in the Bonnie's under Uncle Tom's rule, they would cost however much he wanted them to cost.

"My boy you've outdone yourself. To think a vermin like you would be able to come across these things. Tell me how did ya get them goodies."

"That's our business alone so your snot nose doesn't have to know."

"Oh, is that so? Get them, officer."

Suddenly Zero and Rune were attacked by the officers they had given the fake purse and they were pinned down unable to move.

"Hey, what's the meaning of this?"

As Zero was demanding an explanation, he saw the large officer give Uncle Tom a bundle of paper notes worth 500 shillings in total.

"You funking pig. How dare you sell us off like that?"

"Who, me? Don't be ridiculous here in Bonnie's business is business and money is life."

"Well well well, you little brat. You thought that that old trick would work."

"Looks like it did work since it took you so long to get here."

"Still running your mouth even in the face of danger. You know I could arrest your ass and be done with it but beating the shit out of you seems more satisfying, right boys."

The other officers shouted in agreement.

Zero saw Rune about to begin to struggle and signalled to him not to do it.

"Say why don't you get it over with then."

The large officer glared at Zero with anger

"Hey, you nameless piece of shit don't tell me what to do."

He swang his large arm and punched Zero in the stomach which made him cough out blood.

"Like the taste of that, I had an Iron added into my clove so that it could hurt you even more."

"Hey, boss should we beat up his friend too?:

"Yeah, do whatever you want."

The officers then began to brutally beat up the two boys as a crowd of people watched in silence with their heads turned as though not want to witness the incident.

Eventually, the beating stopped and the two boys fell to the ground bloody and on the brink of death.

"Ah, there we go now I'm satisfied. Come on let's go this place makes me sick."

The officers picked up the purse and walked away leaving the two boys' cold lifeless bodies on the ground.

"Hey can someone clean that up."

Uncle Tom called for some people to dispose of the two boys and they were thrown over into Bonnie's belly, the junkyard.
