Chapter 2 - 2. Demon Instincts

Inside Bonnie's belly

The two boys rose from the ground after their bodies had healed from their brutal beating. Zero stood up and looked at Rune, who was still seated on the ground.

"Hey, are you okay?"

Rune looked at him briefly before hitting his hands on the ground, leaving a depression in the ground, but his hands were not hurt at all.

"Those bastards. They think just because they live up there, they can do as they please to us. I want to kill them every last one of them."

"Honestly, I too want to kill those bastards who live up there in Drew's, but there isn't much we can do..."

"You're wrong. We're both demons we can kill them and show an example to all the others."

"And have the Angels breathing down our necks. Not a chance."

"You're just being a coward. We could take on the angels as long as we're together."

"Together, my ass. We got beaten up for merely stealing. Just imagine what kind of punishment the angels would give us."

Rune turned away from Zero angrily, knowing very well that they had no hope.

"Say Zero, remember when we were kids we said that no matter what, we would shock this world and change it."

"Yeah."

"How exactly are we going to do that?"

Zero thought for some time about what Rune said

"You know what, I don't know, but that'll have to wait. For now, let's focus on sleeping and how we shall get out of here."

Zero lay down some pieces of old paper for both Rune and himself before laying down to sleep. Rune followed as well, and the two of them were now fast asleep.

GRAWL

Rune's stomach began to grumble from hunger. It grumbled so much that he woke up from his sleep.

"Damn, I'm hungry. Guess thinking of meat wasn't the best idea. I've got to find something to eat now, but what can I possibly find in this junkyard."

Suddenly, the smell of meat travelled to his nose, making him salivate a little.

"What's this smell?"

SNIFF

"Human."

He got up onto his feet and began to walk in the direction of the smell. Till he reached a certain area in the junkyard that was brightly lit compared to the other dimly lit areas of the junkyard.

"What's this? It's a kid."

He walked up to the boy, who was about the same age as Rune, probably younger and was looking in the junkyard for some scraps.

"Hey kid, what are you doing here?"

The boy looked at Rune and fell behind onto his behind.

"Sorry for sneaking in, sir. I was just looking for some iron scraps left over."

Rune looked at the boy curiously while inspecting his body.

"Hmm, he looks well-fed and healthy, and due to his kind nature, it seems he's not from Bonnie's."

Rune thought for some time before asking the boy who he was.

"Am...I'm Jerisho Rima. I'm from Drew's, and I'm 15 years old."

"You're from Drew's, huh? Tell me why you are here?"

"Well, like I stated earlier. I'm here to collect iron scraps..."

"What for?"

"To make a sword so that I can be prepared for tomorrow."

"What's there tomorrow?"

"You seem to be living under a rock, sir. Tomorrow is the day when the Red Valon Society collects all awakened angels."

"So let me guess, you're an angel."

"Well, at least not yet. But I hope to be a great one someday one who will be able to change the world for the better."

Rune's eyes widened as he looked into the boy's emerald eyes, seeing the sheer amount of potential he had.

"You do know becoming an angel is suicide. You'll never see heaven or hell, and you'll die a miserable death."

"I know, but I hope to become so strong that I can at least die when I know I've changed this world."

Rune walked up to the boy and punched him.

"The world hasn't changed for the last five centuries, and you think a kid like you can change it. Don't make me laugh."

The boy then threw a sharp metallic blade at Rune that cut his left hand.

"I know nothing has changed, but I can't let those demons go on unanswered mostly since they are the reason my dad died."

Rune looked at his bleeding hand and back at the kid who was looking at his arm as well.

"Oh, sorry, I must have not seen your hand when I was throwing things randomly."

The cloth that was tied around Rune's left arm began to fall off revealing a portion of his left arm that was covered with strange markings.

The boy looked at the strange markings and his eyes widened as his face turned pale and his heart began to pound rapidly.

"You...You're a....a demon."

Rune looked at his scared face with a neutral expression.

"Yes, I am."

He then began to walk up to the boy as his hand began to regenerate.

"After all didn't you say you wanted to be a great angel, tell me now. Now that you are face-to-face with a demon tell me, what will you do?"

The boy didn't answer and just decided to run as fast as he could in the direction from where he came from.

"So you decided to run, you coward."

Rune got on all fours and began to chase after the boy until he caught up to him.

"Well boy, this is what happens to angels that are too weak to fight a demon."

The boy tried to scream for help but he felt too scared to even whisper a word almost as if he was being held in the mouth.

Rune picked up the boy with one hand and crashed his neck like a twig killing the boy instantly. With a smile on his face, Rune put the boy on the ground and began to feast on his dead body.

Just as he was finished eating most of the boy's body leaving only his left side of the body he heard a familiar voice.

"Are you done?"

Rune turned to look at who was talking to him and he saw that it was Zero. He quickly cleaned up his mouth and stood up.

"Sorry, I was just so hungry..."

Before he could finish explaining himself Zero walked up to him and tapped him on the shoulder.

"It's fine."

He then walked over to the body tore off the boy's left leg and began to eat it like a large drumstick.

"Brat may have been annoying but he was delicious."

Rune looked at Zero in shock.

"You heard all that."

"Yeah, that he's some boy from Drew's that came here to look for scrap for a sword because he's an angel. Yeah, I heard it all."

"So now what are we going to do about him having him here like that will raise suspicions even if this is the junkyard."

"You're right having him here is risky. But lucky he showed us an exit that leads to the forest which must be how he got here."

"So we're going to dump him in the forest?"

"Yeah, a forest is the best place to hide him mostly since there is a myth of a strong demon hiding there."

"Alright, sounds like a sound plan."

Zero picked up the dead bloody and handed the bones over to Rune. They headed over to the forest where they dumped the body in a hole that was surrounded by thick bushes. They dumped the bones throughout the forest but not far from the body.

The two boys headed back home using another exit that led to Bonnie's.

In a rundown house in the Bonnie's

Zero and Rune were lying on the roof of the house looking up at the stars.

"Hey Zero, why didn't you get angry at me for killing that boy?"

"You're still on that? Look, I didn't get angry because I can't blame you. Demons and humans are the same they all have needs and desires that must be met so why should I get angry at you for eating a human when you're hungry I would have done the same."

"By the way what would have happened if we hadn't been thrown in Bonnie's belly?"

"Well, I think we would have eaten a dead body or a cat."

Rune looked at Zero with a blank expression that was accompanied with a hint of disappointment.

"You can't be serious."

Zero burst out laughing as Rune kept on asking him to stop laughing before he lay back down on the roof and continued looking at the stars.

"Say Zero, I hope that one day we'll be able to travel the world and see all kinds of things and all kinds of beautiful women."

"Pervert"

"Hey, what's the problem I love beautiful women."

"Sure. But don't worry we'll one day leave this shit hole and travel the world as powerful demons."
