The next day
Rune and Zero woke up feeling very refreshed for the day. Actually, this had been the most refreshed they had felt in a long time.
"Morning Zero," shouted Rune who was waving at him with a big smile on his face.
'Hmm, he woke up early," Zero thought to himself before replying and jumping down to meet with Rune.
"Hey, what do you have there?" Zero asked pointing at a bag that Rune was holding.
Rune smiled at him and asked him to follow him.
The two boys walked for a fairly long distance until they reached the outer wall.
"Here we are."
"Um...Rune what are we doing here."
Rune looked up and down the wall before turning to look at Zero.
"Well, we are going to train."
Zero looked at Rune dumbfounded trying to understand what he meant by train.
"Train, train for what."
"Well, we are going to train our demon abilities."
Zero looked at Rune even more dumbfounded. He had no idea what Rune was thinking at that moment but he was very curious to find out.
"Our demon abilities, why?"
"So that we can have control of them so we can become angels."
'So that was your plan."
Zero sighed and told Rune, "You do know that if we became angels the Red Valon Society would..."
"I don't want to hear it."
Zero stared at Rune in shock. 'He can't be serious right now,' Zero thought.
"Look I know what the Red Valon would do to us if they found out. Those bastards aren't known for their mercy but we can still disguised as regular humans."
Zero thought for a while and remembered that there was nothing that said that regular humans couldn't join and become angels just that the physical and mental strain that came with fighting demons was normally too much for them. But that still left a question unanswered.
"So why would we have to train our demon abilities?"
"That's because, unlike angel abilities, demons could suppress their abilities to blend into a crowd and sneak into strongholds undetected so long as they hid their marks."
Zero looked at Rune surprised he had no idea that they could do that. But before he could ask Rune about it Rune continued taking.
"Also careful not to overexert yourself because since it was our first time eating living human flesh our power levels will be kind of high so try to not overdo it or else we'll get spotted out."
Zero nodded in agreement and Rune reached his hand into the bag and picked out some bottles, cans and balloons filled with paint.
"Alright so I read a book and it said that in order to suppress our demon abilities we would have to first get used to them through precision exercises."
Zero looked at Rune closely as he placed the items on the ground while explaining the exercise.
"So what your saying is if we want to blend in we're going to have to use our abilities by attacking these."
"Yeah, though your half right because in order for us to do this we wouldn't need to attack them we just need to dodge."
Zero looked at Rune dumbfounded. It's not that he didn't understand the exercise its just that he had never used his abilities seriously since his role usually wad to get beaten up and run.
As Zero was in thought Rune put his hands together and smoke blew from his mouth that formed a small inferior demon but Zero was the least bit shocked because he knew Rune could make inferior demons that were very weak and usually tiny but this time he sense that the thing had gotten a bit stronger.
"Okay you ready," asked Rune as he gave the objects to the inferior demon.
"Ready, ready for what?"
"To dodge of course." Just then Rune stood beside Zero and removed his shirt before taking up a battle stance.
"So in this exercise we are going to use our demon senses only to dodge the objects that would be thrown by the demon."
Zero looked at the demon and thought to himself that this challenge would be easy enough that he wouldn't need to use his demon senses.
So he removed his shirt as well and also took up a battle stance. He closed his eyes then opened them again to see a balloon filled with paint about to hit his face.
It was too late by the time he realised the balloon he couldn't dodge and it hit him in the face covering him in paint.
Zero landed down on his butt defeated but he wasn't alone Rune followed after and at that moment Zero had a realisation about the exercise and the two boys stood up again this time more serious.
The sun set and soon it was night time the two boys had been training for the whole day that none of them realised the sun was setting not until it became very late but at this time the two boys had gotten a hang of using their senses and they could dodge anything.
The next morning was the Collection day and all residents of Drew's were gathered at the town's centre that had a large fountain that was surrounded by fairly stone tablets that displayed the names of the ten angels that were to be collected on this day.
Zero and Rune were moving through the town centre without caring as to whether they'll come across the officers.
"Woah, look. All the food kiosks are here must really be a special day," said Rune as he looked at all the places that were selling food.
"Yeah, it would be nice to eat some of it but we don't have any money. Damn those crocked cops stealing our money like that."
Rune looked at Zero before seeing the large fountain in the centre of the entire area.
"Zero look at that. Come let's go see." Rune held Zero's hand and pulled him over to the fountain to get a better look.
Close by the fountain was large and beautiful they stared at it in awe they had never seen a fountain before let alone one that was that large.
"First time being here?"
The two boys turned to look at who had asked them to see a brown-haired boy about their age standing behind them.
Zero and Rune shook their heads and the brown-haired boy walked up to them and looked up at the top of the fountain.
"Amasing isn't it one of the largest in the continent but it's nothing compared to the ones in Equistra Kingdom in the Western continent. If your in awe due to this small one then wouldn't you die at the sight of that one."
Zero and Rune looked at the fountain and at the boy with one thought in mind, 'who is this guy.' But their cold stares sent shivers down the brown-haired boy's spine that he could feel what they were thinking.
"Oh by the way my name is Siriss O'kana. I'm 16 years old."
"O'kana, why does that sound familiar?" Rune's eyes panned across the list of angels till his eyes landed on the tablet that had the name Siriss O'kana.
"Oh, you're an angel," asked Rune.
Zero took a look at the tablet and began to read aloud the achievements.
"Says here that your a prodigy unlocking your angel unit at the age of 7. Also that you have slain many teir 2 monsters. Wow you sound amazing."
"Oh, no need to praise me I don't really care about those achievements after all they're nothing if you can't kill a demon and that's my dream to slay a demon as strong as Humble."
"Hmm, Humble. You mean that legendary demon that was killed by King Aisen like 500 years ago?" asked Rune with rather neutral expression.
"Yes, the legendary Prince of the demons. I want to kill a demon like him. You're okay to laugh if you want I don't mind."
"Why would we laugh?" said Zero as he read the other angels tablets.
Suddenly Siriss' emerald coloured eyes widened he wanted to ask Zero about his response but a some commotion started breaking out at the entrance point of the centre.
Everyone gathered at the path and made way for a group of two men that had long thick coats that flattered in the wind. They were also escorted by some soldiers.
The men walked up to the fountain and turned around to face the crowd before sitting on some chairs that were brought by some citizens.
"Who are those guys?" whispered Zero to Siriss who looked shocked by the fact that Zero didn't know them.
He sighed and whispered back to Zero "The guy with the cigar in his mouth is Mr. Borollo and the formal one is Mr. Kentai, his partner. Both of them are very strong angels with a head count of 100 each. Isn't that amazing."
Zero looked at Mr. Borollo for sometime until a voice from a microphone distracted him.
Mr. Kentai stood up and greeted the audience.
"Greetings folk of kingdom Farland. I'm Mr. Kentai and this is Mr. Borollo and we are here to collect the future angels from this kingdom."
