"So it's a bet?"
Borollo stretched out his hand for a handshake, but Zero just looked at it with much disdain.
'This old fool can't be serious. What do I do?' Zero thought before looking at Rune, who stared at him with hopeful eyes. This was Rune's way of asking if Zero had a plan.
Zero looked back at the old man and slapped his hand away before standing up on his feet and stretching.
"Hey, old man. You said that if I can kill the demon that killed the tenth angel, you would accept me to become an angel, right?"
"Yes, that is the deal," said Borollo with a smile.
"Though there is just one thing I don't understand."
"Hmm, what is it?" Borollo asked Zero with a rather confused look on his face.
"Just that you say it's a bet, but there is nothing that you gain if I lose."
"Hmm, I guess you're right. However, this bet is a special one because if you lose, you'll die right. Either by the demon or me."
A cold chill ran down Zero's spine after hearing the old angel's words. He wondered if the old man was just making fun or being serious, but the old man's expression wasn't easy to read.
"Can I ask you something, old man?" Zero asked.
"What is it?"
"I would like to make a few changes to the bet. Is that okay?"
"Hmm, fine, I'll hear them."
"They're not a lot it's just one request." Zero took a big sigh before continuing, " Can my friend join the bet too? He wishes to become an angel, too."
Borollo smiled joyfully. He was having fun.
"Hmm, is that so? Bring your friend here so I can take a look at him."
Immediately, Zero stood up to call Rune, but before he could even look in his direction, the large officer picked him up and threw him in Zero's direction.
Rune flew in the air briefly before hitting the ground.
THUD
"Ouch, did that fool have to throw me?"
Rune got up onto his feet and cleaned himself before looking at Zero and Borollo.
"So this is your friend?"
"Yeah...he is. His name is Rune, and mine is Zero."
Borollo scanned the two boys before striking a mischievous smile that made Mr Kentai worry.
"Ah, so you two are a duo. Fine then. Zero and Rune, if you can kill the demon that killed the tenth angel before sundown, then you'll win the bet and become angels, but if you don't, you'll die. So let me ask once again: Do we have a bet?"
"You bet we do."
Zero and Rune shook the old angel's hand, and their fates were sealed. All anybody could do was wait for the two boys to return by sundown.
As everyone was doing lots of other random things waiting for the boy's return, Borollo was seated back on his chair facing the entrance to the town centre waiting for the boys as well but as he was staring at the entrance with a smile Kentai looked at him and sighed shakily before seating down onto his seat.
"So, are you sure if they can do it?" Kentai asked.
"Oh, being honest, I don't have any idea," answered Borollo.
Mr Kentai looked at him terrified and confused never had he heard of Borollo being unsure of a bet especially if a person's life was at stake.
"What do you mean you're unsure?" Kentai asked even more worried.
"I know shocking. Most of the time I know when someone can win a bet and I have a contingency but this time I'm conflicted."
"Then why do you continue to smile as though you enjoying this?"
"Oh, I forget just how clueless you are when it comes to gambling. Of course, I'm enjoying it but at the same time I'm uncertain as to whether there is or isn't a demon."
Mr Kentai looked at the entrance to the town centre with even more worry but he had some faith that Zero and Rune would make it back safely.
Meanwhile, in the Bonnie's
Zero and Rune were in the rundown house they called home preparing for their adventure in the forest.
Rune was moving all around the house looking for whatever they could do while thanking Zero for making the bet but Zero was now wondering what they were going to do and he wasn't in high spirits about the bet.
"Hey, Rune. What the hell are we going to do? We need to present the demon that killed that kid and that demon was you."
"Oh, yeah you're right. Though I still don't care. They want a demon they will get a demon."
"From where though because demons aren't easy to come by so how are we going to find one."
Rune stopped for a moment and closed his eyes briefly before telling Zero, " I've found one. In the forest."
Zero looked at Rune in awe wondering how he was able to locate one so fast but he decided not to overthink it.
"Okay then. I guess let's go kill that son of a bitch."
Rune smiled before giving Zero a machete and the two boys went out into the forest south of Bonnie's to kill a demon.
Inside the forest, Rune and Zero were walking around trying to first locate Jerisho's body to see if anything had gotten to it.
It had been two days since they killed Jericho and his body would most likely be rotting by now.
The two boys looked around the area where they threw the bones and the area where they dumped the body but they were unable to find them.
"Where the hell is this guy's body? It's not here. Hey, Rune have you seen any sign of the body anywhere?"
"No not at all and I can't sniff it out either it like it's being covered in some strange spice. Do you think that the demon could be having it?"
Zero thought for a second before replying, " Most likely because there is no way it could have gotten up and walked away and then decided to cover itself with spices."
The image of an eaten Jerisho began to play in Rune's mind before he felt a gust of wind blow in his direction. He's eyes widened.
"Zero I can smell him. This way." Rune called Zero they started running in the direction of the scent that led them over to an eerie dark cave.
"Damn, you sure it's in there."
"Yes, I'm sure. It seems that the demon might also be there so be careful."
The two boys brandished their machetes and cautiously walked into the cave.
The cave was incredibly dark that if a normal human were in there they wouldn't see a thing but darkness wasn't a problem for demons especially for these two.
Zero and Rune walked far and far into the cave looking for Jerisho's body and probably the demon as well but so far they couldn't find a thing just some of Jerisho's bones scattered around the cave broken.
As they continued to walk in the cave they saw a hollow space that was being illuminated with a light.
"Hey, look light." Zero said to Rune as they approached the space.
When they arrived they were met with the horrific sight of Jerisho's head rested on a stone slab infront of a bonfire.
"Well looks like we found what is left of his body." Said Zero as he poked the head with his machete with out making any damage.
"Then there is no doubt about it. The demon must be here." Said Rune and a loud growl followed afterwards echoing throughout the cave.
Zero jumped back away from the head and tightly gripped his machete. The two boys looked around the cave for a sign of the demon's presence but nothing.
Suddenly a strong gust of wind blew to their direction and Zero felt a tight grip on his throat. He looked to see the demon holding him up into the air with one hand.
'Shit, it's fast,' Rune thought before he held his machete tightly and lunged at the demon that dodged his attack and dropped Zero.
"Are you okay?"
"Yah I'm good." Zero replied before standing back up and holding his machete facing the demon.
The two boys looked at the demon and stood in shock at the sight of it. It wasn't a Rakian demon, no. It was an Anakian demon but it looked terrifying.
The demon was tall with one thick arm that made it unable for even a very sharp sword to slice through it much less their machetes. It had no eyes implying that it was using demon instinct to spot them. But what was more terrifying was the fact that despite its large size that was two times the size of a grizzly bear it was also fast too fast for their was demon instincts to track it probably.
"Huh, looks like we're screwed." Zero said while chuckling and this made Rune also chuckle.
"Looks like it. So are we gonna just accept the beating or are we gonna fight this time."
"You bet we're gonna fight and kill this thing."
"Sounds like a plan."
So the two boys stood face to face with a real demon that they had to kill inorder to win their bet. Will they be victorious or will they die along with the human that they killed?
