Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: Minitrysa

As soon as Rowan woke up, he unfurled his taffy hammock, but in doing so he was struck with an idea. His skill radius was about 10 meters now, give or take. He quickly ate some rations, but suddenly had an idea. The idea was to spread the hot chocolate out, into something carpet or cloud shaped mass, with himself sitting on top. He would have to solidify it first and increase the melting point substantially, and since he would be sitting on top, it would never go past the limited distance. He wouldn't use the taffy, because he would have to keep spamming the skill till he had enough.

'Is this how candy works?' Rowan thought to himself.

[90/95]

Rowan spread out the chocolate, and hardened it, while making the melting point as high as he could. That way, it wouldn't melt to the heat of his body or the sun, it would take several fireballs to melt it at this point, and that's if Rowan stood there and didn't do anything to reinforce it. He ultimately decided on the cloud shape, hollowing out the top so there was a place to sit, and so he wouldn't fall off.

He sat on top, and moved it forward. It moved forward as expected, but the movement wasn't as smooth as smooth, he suspected that it had to do with his manipulation being too lacking.

Nevertheless, it worked!

He smacked himself on the forehead, why hadn't he thought of this earlier?

'With this, I have the high ground advantage!' One of Rowan's worries had always been being surrounded by several enemies, and with his current skills, he would still lose eventually if there were enough people. Now, if that happens Rowan can deal with it, his enemies at least won't be able to stop him, unless they have ranged skills.

Rowan started moving the mass of chocolate shaped as a cloud towards the general direction of Minitrysa.

If he had tried to travel on foot, it would have taken several more days, but now he could simply fly there. Rowan felt that the speed was as fast as a sprinting horse, but he couldn't really tell for sure. He predicted that it would take a couple hours at most, to reach the city, if he maintained this speed.

Swoosh

Rowan was speeding by, well above the trees, he couldn't really see anything too clearly, because he was going too fast.

A couple hours later...

He could see a tall, imposing wall in the distance, and he decided to land somewhere in the forest first. Flying in may cause an unwanted commotion, something he couldn't deal with now.

He brought the ride down, there was still no indication of melting, it looked like it could last him a long time before it did. But, he could just stop somewhere and conjure more out.

There was a winding path leading to the city gates, it looked relatively maintained. The city gates and wall were manned by many guards, all clad in shiny armor. Catapults, ballistas, crossbows, and other weaponry lined the walls. He could even see some individuals wielding staffs, they seemed to be mages or something similar. There were several carriages drawn by horses, and people riding horses, but most were walking into and out of the city.

Most notably though, he noticed that people were using powers. Someone had a golem with them carrying things, another had a whip of fire, striking what appears to be a slave. Another, person was using it to run faster, someone appeared to be lifting several heavy chests and crates with a either a strength based skill or high strength stats.

Rowan could see the influence of magic everywhere, and he couldn't draw much on what he had learned from the books at Liam's house. What he did know - thanks to his knowledge of history in his previous world - was, this world was shifting into the age of powers and magic, which would inevitably result in conflict. And aside from his initial goal of surviving, he didn't know what else he was to do, perhaps he would explore all there is to his class and powers.

'I'll think about this stuff later.' Rowan thought as he made his way to the right side of the road.

There was a line going in on the right side of the road, and a line going out on the left side. He saw that people were paying money to go in and leave. From what the books showed him, he knew that the currency consisted of: copper, silver, gold, and platinum with copper being worth the least and platinum being worth the most. 100 copper was worth 1 silver, 100 silver was 1 gold, and so on.

'Shit...' That said, he realized that he had no money on him. However, he had something that could make money. He looked towards a bald and potbellied man, who appeared to be a merchant waiting behind him, with horses pulling a wagon with what appeared to be spices and other products.

Rowan walked up to him confidently, putting on his best smile.

'What the h*ll?' What the man saw though, was quite different... He backed up slightly, appearing slightly weary of Rowan. He saw a young man walking towards him in large strides, with an ugly expression on his face. He saw him putting his hand into bag of cloth he had, and pulled out something dark, presenting it to him in the next moment. What he saw made his face darken...

Rowan put his hand into the bag, he actually had some chocolates in the shape of a bar, stashed in his bag in case he ran out of dried meat.

"Hello, good sir, would you care to take a look at some of my commodities?" Rowan presented the bars of chocolate, they looked like several squares with ridges that allowed for someone to break it easily. All the while, Rowan still had his signature smile on his face, his teeth didn't look that nice and his hair was disheveled from flying here.

"How dare you!?" The potbellied man stumbled back a bit while pointing a shaky finger at Rowan, it seemed like he had gotten offended somehow.

"This is actually a commodity from my hometown, it's a-" Rowan tried to explain, but was cut off again.

"B*llshit, do you think this is a joke?!" The man had veins running across his forehead, and his face was turning a bit pink, he looked like he was constipated.

"It's not what you think it is, just take a look." Saying so, Rowan walked up to the man, and presented the chocolate. He knew talking wouldn't lead to anything. By now, Rowan had figured out that the man thought Rowan was probably trying to hand him something unsavory, resulting in this outburst. The inhabitants of this world didn't know what chocolate was, to Rowan it looked like a bar of chocolate, but to to man it looked like fecal matter or mud, something meant to shame and humiliate him. And of course, this wouldn't harm the man, as Rowan didn't see him as an enemy.

Seeing the bar brought up to his face, the man was about to lash out again, but then his nose was assaulted by the smell. The smell was rich and smelled sweet. He saw Rowan take it back, break off a piece, and hand it to him. Taking it, he took a bite, and his mind went blank. He simply couldn't put it into words, whatever this was, it was too good, addictive even. He's never had something like this before, this was definitely a commodity!

"How much!? My name is Eoghan, I will buy it all." the man grabbed Rowan's shirt, shaking Rowan vigorously.

'Too easy.' Rowan thought, he would definitely make a killing with his confections, something the people of this world definitely haven't tried. Just thinking about how much the nobles would pay for such a luxury...

He would definitely ramp up the price!
