Chapter 13 - Chapter 13: Trouble on the Horizon

Rowan finished his trip to the bathhouse, and was now home, he planned head out to the wilderness to farm some experience.

Thump! Thump!

He had just entered his bedroom, when he heard knocking at the front. Sighing, he made went outside again, and looked through the window to find Eoghan waiting outside. Obviously, he wouldn't open the door to just anybody, what if it were an assassin? Wait, would they even knock? He shook his head, and opened the door.

"Ahem, my dear friend Rowan, could you spare a moment?" Eoghan's complexion didn't look good at all, much different from how he looked earlier. He looked haggard, as if he hadn't slept and ate for days.

After letting him in, the two sat down on the chairs around the table. Eoghan went straight to the point.

"Could we revise the terms of the contract, of course, I'll ensure you won't lose out." Eoghan never expected that the chocolate bars would do so well, many of the nobles barged abruptly into his shop, 'politely' asking him for more. Even when he increased the price under the guise of low supply and high demand, the demands kept coming. He had no reason to refuse, many of them were on good terms with him, and this was his chance to deepen relations, while deepening his pockets.

What Eoghan wanted was for Rowan to supply the chocolates on a weekly basis, rather than the original monthly agreement. Rowan saw no problem with that, it was all just a matter of mana anyways, and he was basically a walking chocolate factory anyways. Eoghan would be paying him more, and he would be receiving his coin faster.

With Eoghan on his merry way, Rowan could finally get some rest, he wanted to be in his best condition before going out to grind some levels. But before that, he wedged some chocolate the door and windows, so if anyone came through, there would be a loud crunch, warning him. He knew that he had to be more cautious, especially with many eyes now on him. He could tell that when Eoghan came to him, that his chocolate was a hit, which would obviously garner attention.

...

Quite a distance away from Rowan's house, and in a dimly lit room, several people were going through some parchments. If Rowan were here, he would notice that that this was the adventurer's guild, and that those parchments contained the names and descriptions regarding classes and skills, of anyone who decided to register their information at the guild of course.

By this time, most of the inhabitants of the city had registered, and right now the guild workers were going through everything. They were filtering out the useful from the useless, the potential threats from the harmless, the significant from the insignificant.

Right at the moment, a man put a parchment into the 'useless' pile, which would probably be stored later on, just to keep it in the records. He looked back at the pile in front of him, the parchment before him was Rowan's.

[Name: Rowan

Class: Confectioner

Description: Can make food that is sweet, nothing else of note.]

'Another useless one...' The man thought, about to throw the parchment into the 'useless' pile.

Bam!

Someone suddenly barged into the room, startling everyone, and spoke before anyone could say anything.

"Is there a parchment here with the name 'Rowan?'" Many nobles, with there connections and wide networks, now knew who was the creator of the chocolate bars. From that, they found that Rowan could produce it in large amounts, they even had information on the day several workers came to Rowan's house, bringing back several crates and chests with the highly sought after chocolate bars.

The man that was about to throw Rowan's parchment into the 'useless' pile, looked at the parchment in his hand, his eyes widening a little. Looking at the information again, he really didn't know why anyone would be interested in this, he brought the paper up anyway.

Upon receiving the parchment, the worker that barged in, left just as quickly as he came. The man reported went to another room in the guild, bringing the parchment before a man with a certain air of nobility around him. Everyone looked at him with respect, for, not just his rank, but because he was backed directly by Prince Declan. The man in question is Viscount Adam, he was radiating a powerful aura, and appeared indifferent to everything.

After Viscount Adam received the parchment, he looked at it closely, putting it down in the next moment. Rowan thought he downplayed his powers heavily, and he did to a certain extent, but even then, what he displayed so far is incredibly valuable. He could produce hundreds of bars of chocolate, which they found to be invigorating, and could feed hundreds, maybe thousands of soldiers. That was perfect for their armies, which would be crippled without such supplies.

The strategic value of that was significant, he would essentially become a walking chocolate dispenser. Enemies trying to burn their supplies? Unlikely now, as they could 'protect' Rowan at all times.

Viscount Adam, as an insider in Prince Declan's faction, received information firsthand. He knew that war was on the horizon, Prince Declan wasn't going to take everything sitting down. With his vast connections and early advantage prior to the system coming in, how could he not take advantage of that? He now has a large army, full of people with unique classes and skills, he was not lacking in any way when compared to his siblings.

"Summon Eoghan..." Viscount Adam said in a deep voice, he wanted to know more about Rowan before trying to bring him into Prince Declan's fold. And, if he couldn't? Well, he wouldn't let Rowan fall into the hands of another faction.

Many forces were on the move, tonight would be one of the first big confrontations between the faction, Rowan would just be an unfortunate soul that got dragged in.

Meanwhile, Rowan was none the wiser...
