Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: Confrontation

Crunch!

In the middle of the night, while Rowan was sleeping, a crunching sound woke him up quickly. Someone had triggered and broke the chocolate bars he stuck to the doors and windows.

Crunch!

There was definitely more than one person, and they obviously didn't come with good intentions. Getting up, he removed the chocolate around his door, walking slowly towards the front. He activated Hot Chocolate, shrouding himself with it, ready to cover the enemy. The noise had come from the front door, and when he arrived at a corner, he saw the door was wide open.

There were definitely uninvited guests, lying in wait for for him.

Rowan had an idea, he broke off a piece of chocolate, solidified it, and threw it to the side.

Thump

Suddenly, he saw to figures rushing towards that direction, weapons glowing. They struck the spot, only to find that there was nobody there.

"Sh*t!" One of the assailants turned around, and he saw was something converging in on him. it left no room for dodging or blocking. It was too late, the other person didn't even get the chance to turn.

Shhhh

Their muffled screams resounded throughout the house, as they melted away rapidly, and a moment later everything went quiet. Rowan waited for a while, maybe there were more people.

Removing the chocolate that covered them, there was practically nothing left, except for the scraps of heated up metal, most likely from the weapons they used. Rowan could melt some of the metals with lower melting points, but as for the ones with high melting points, he wasn't quite there yet.

'Interface.' Rowan checked his stats. He leveled up once, the two didn't give too much experience, but he couldn't really complain. He allocated 1 point into intellect, 2 points into strength, and 2 points into constitution. This would give him more mana, health, and overall control and influence over his confections. He didn't feel any change, but he knew he got stronger.

Rowan didn't know why there were people after him, he wasn't anyone of significance, at least not yet. The only reason he could come up with were either Prince Declan sent people after him or someone among his siblings did. They probably didn't like that he could supply so much food, it was definitely a game changer.

Boom!

He heard explosions in the distance, and concluded that he wasn't the only target tonight. Realizing this, he decided to head to the wilderness earlier, to not get caught up in the battle between the opposing factions.

Most likely, he wasn't an important target, he concluded due to the amount and skill of the assassins. They were subpar. Rowan was most likely just one among the many, targeting just for merely being affiliated with Prince Declan's faction. The nobility were just too unreasonable...

Thinking so, Rowan grabbed a bag, threw some clothes, rations, and money in, and left immediately. He would lie low outside the walls for a while, and gain some levels while he was at it. He couldn't be bothered to follow up on the deal with Eoghan, who he didn't even know was alive or dead.

Boom!

Boom!

Another explosion followed shortly after, this time at the center of the city. This was clearly an organized and planned attack, and whoever orchestrated it dared to target the nobles, it could only be someone of similar or higher rank. Then another, followed by the screams of the civilians in the distance. Rowan was in the outer part of the city, so he wasn't affected too much.

With the cover of night and chaos around the city, Rowan activated Hot Chocolate, setting it up again to fly quickly out of the city. This time he had opted for a basket shape, which he thought was more efficient than the last shape he did.

Rowan left his sword and staff behind, in his rush, thought that wouldn't affect him too much. He flew rapidly out of the city, and into the dense, expansive forest. He found a tall tree, with thick branches, and did set up a hammock again with his Taffy Ball skill. The color this time was white, with brown stripes, giving off the smell a rich creamy, tropical and vanilla-like smell. Coconut flavor.

His skills were truly versatile, only limited by his creativity and imagination. And, his levels and stats, of course.

Rowan took some rations out of the bag, it was just dried meat. While eating it, he could still hear the sounds of the explosions a distance away. The fighting hadn't ended yet, it seemed like it was only starting. It wasn't his problem though, he was no hero in shining armor. It wasn't that he was heartless, he would help where and when he could, but now was not the time.

He had only faced weak enemies so far, heck he hasn't even fought a mage yet. He doubted that his measly health points would tank much, and he didn't want to test that. He needed to focus on leveling up first, before anything else. His plan of getting rich, would have to be put on hold, Eoghan might not even be alive by the time he came back.

Rowan hadn't been hurt so far, primarily because of his unique powers, but he wouldn't let that be a reason for him to grow complacent.

Wishing Eoghan well, he drifted off to sleep.
