Chapter 11 - Chapter 11: The Nobility

The people in the room heard someone burst into the room, dragging in another person along the way. Eoghan walked in, bringing the unwilling Rowan with him, grabbed a cup of wine and gulped down all of the contents vigorously in one go.

Eoghan sighed in contentment, seemingly ignorant of the reaction of everyone in the room, who were all looking at him weirdly.

"Eoghan, I must say, I have always thought that there was something wrong in that head of yours." A stout man with an especially noticeable beard, sort of similar to a French fork, beard said shortly after Eoghan's outburst. It seemed that this was not the first time that Eoghan had done something like this.

"I would have to concur, Lord Andrew." A skinny man, with lazy eyes, and a calm demeanor spoke up at this time, taking a sip of drink, with pinky extended.

"Nonsense, nonsense! Today, I have brought dear friend of mine. He made the chocolate bars!" After brushing aside their remarks, Eoghan started introducing Rowan to the men gathered around the table. When he mentioned the chocolate, the room went silent, and everyone's eyes were now upon Rowan. The glint that that flashed briefly in their eyes contained a lot of things: greed or excitement, Rowan didn't know, but he didn't like it.

"Ah, so it's our good friend, Rowan. Why didn't you say so earlier? Come, take a seat." The skinny man, who had spoken earlier, said, making room for Rowan to sit.

After Rowan sat down, the nobles started introducing themselves, there were 4 of them, not including Eoghan. Rowan found it interesting that all of them were of the Lord rank, and they seemed to get along quite well, presumably because they were part of the same faction.

The stout man who spoke first was called Lord Andrew, while the skinny man was called Lord Cormac. The other two introduced themselves as, Lord Padraig and Harry, and though everyone was of the same rank, it seemed that the two behaved themselves before Andrew and Cormac. Even among the same rank, not everyone had equal power.

After speaking with them for a while, Rowan found that they liked- no, were enamored with his creations. When they started asking for specifics, like the recipe, Rowan brushed it off by saying it was attributed to his powers. Of course he knew how to make it by hand, but he definitely wasn't going to tell them. And, even if they somehow knew or reverse engineered, they would still never be at his level, with his powers practically catered towards any and all things considered confection. What mattered in the end was that, only his creations could be influenced by the system and gain certain properties, an example being the Hot Chocolate skill that could fly around and melt people.

Rowan left shortly after, he had to head to the adventurer's guild now. Aside from being able to use his powers openly, he wanted to hide in plain sight by registering himself there, at least from Viscount Adam's group. Maybe, that way he wouldn't be dragged into the battles between the princes vying for the throne. An unknown and unaccounted for factor is always the scariest, and that could make himself a target, whether he would be attacked openly, framed or something else, he didn't want any part in it. After registering himself, he would just look like someone who had a harmless power, and not a threat to be recruited or eliminated. Though, if trouble still came to him, he had a way to remove any traces.

He was now before the adventurer's guild, which looked similar to most buildings, all of them were similar to olden English styled houses back in his world, made of all types of rocks and wood. There was a large line, stretching wider than his eyes could see, it would take all day if he waited. Luckily, when he mentioned that he was going to register his powers to Eoghan and the nobles, they happily gave him a written notice that would allow for him to cut the line. A perk of having some connections.

Rowan walked to the front, cutting everyone, all of whom were peasants or those of the working class. He noticed some hateful stares directed towards him, it seemed that they thought he was a noble. Rowan thought it was weird, the nobles were fighting amongst themselves and the lower class as well, though they focused much more on the former. He thought that the nobles were looking down on the peasants too much, it may come back to bite them someday.

After talking with a worker in the guild, he just had to describe himself and his power briefly on some parchment. He wrote every down as if he were writing in English, but it showed up in this world's language instead, another unsaid perk of the system, so it seems. He was given another parchment, confirming that he did register himself here and could use his power in a reasonable manner. Seeing the lack of interest in the worker's eyes, Rowan knew that he must not have been marked down or noted, just because his power seemed harmless. Sometimes, it was better to be hidden in the dark, rather than exposed in the light. This was one of the ways he intended keep a target off his back, regardless, he didn't mind free experience if it came to him.

An hour later, Rowan had finished the registration and arrived at the bathhouse, which looked quite lavish. The quality of the building seemed to be much higher than what he had seen before, with expensive looking decoration all around. There was practically nobody here, it was expensive after all, so only the nobility had access. But, since there was probably an even more exquisite bathhouse located in the walled off noble's district at the center of the city, they didn't deign to come here. Probably, only wealthy merchants or middle class people came here.

A moment later Rowan could be seen sitting in what appeared to be a large pool of sorts, made of marble and other materials. The water was warm, and to Rowan's surprise, there was soap, albeit a more simplified and basic version of the type he used in his previous life. It functioned the same though, and he didn't mind. He didn't think bath's were this luxurious, the bath had cost him 5 silver - per hour at that, - but he felt that it was worth it. He would be somewhat clean now.

Though it was expensive to use now, he thought it would become more common later on, as he remembered the man filling up the well with a skill related to water. There it was again, the influence of the powers and skills from the system; the world was slowly moving towards a new era. Rowan needed to find a way to increase his level, it didn't hurt to be stronger and more prepared.

Rowan left the bathhouse, feeling clean and refreshed.

'Hopefully, no rodents or bugs gets to it, but people don't seem to care too much about sanitation now, so it should be fine.' When he got home, he noticed that the chocolate was still there on the ground, with no signs of melting. He was just going to leave it there on the floor, crossing his fingers that the FDA didn't come after him, but he wanted to try and see if he could have it floating all night. The rodents couldn't possible fly could they?

Thinking so, he moved the chocolate up in the air. Given the distance of his room, the chocolate bars should be floating, since it was within the approximate 10 meter limit. He really didn't know how to get an exact number for the distance his powers could be manipulated, so he would just try to get a rough estimate and eyeball it.

Rowan then went into the bedroom and jumped on the bed, it didn't quite match up to the beds that he's laid on before, but it did the job.

He drifted off to sleep, thinking about how much money would come in, after his chocolate was picked up and sold.
