But only two were able to jump in the air because right before their jump, she shot down the one on the left and moved around the tree trunk to her left side.
By doing so, she was able to avoid the two wolves in front and one ambushing on the right.
Now she only had to deal with the one on the left, which was now in front of her. The wolf was in midair with its sharp claw ready to slash at her.
She took out another bolt and tried to knock it on in the shortest time possible. By the time she took aim, the wolf slashed down.
She feared that it will cut the bow string, so she moved further on her left. She was able to protect the crossbow, but her right arm was slashed, and a bloody wound appeared on her flawless white skin.
Blood gushed out, staining her clothes, which were indistinguishable at this point. Waves of severe pain hit her nerves, she clenched her teeth and held the crossbow tightly, refusing to gave in to the pain.
She knew if she let go now, the only thing that awaited her was death. Her journey had just begun, she couldn't give in right in the beginning.
Her right hand shook, but she held the foregrip of the crossbow with her left hand firmly. She backed away from the tree trunk and took aim at the wolf, who wounded her.
She pulled the trigger with her trembling right index finger. The wolf was shot between the eyes and died instantly.
The two wolves, who pounced on her straight ahead earlier, bumped into the tree trunk. They whimpered from the impact and became immobile for a few seconds.
While the wolf on the right was lucky. It jumped at her diagonally and was able to avoid the impact with the tree trunk, by placing one claw on the trunk and shifting its angle.
After landing on the ground, it found Yuxi behind the tree. The distance between them was very short, and it directly ran towards her with its maw open.
She had just killed the other wolf and had no time to knock on another bolt. She released the crossbow from her grip, letting it fall to the ground with a low thud, and a sharp dagger appeared in her hand.
Just when the wolf tried to take a bite out of her flesh, she rolled to one side and slashed at its ribs with the dagger.
She used all her strength in this attack, and it opened a long and deep wound on its side, dyeing its gray fur red.
It growled in pain after being injured and didn't stop its inertia of running forward. It skipped the crossbow placed below while running and went far ahead, putting the distance between the two.
Yuxi quickly picked up the crossbow again and ran behind it while knocking on a bolt. With her running, she closed the distance between them and pulled the trigger right when the wolf turned around to face her.
Despite the close distance, she wasn't able to aim properly this time due to running and being injured. Even so, the bolt penetrated its belly and came out from the other side.
The wolf didn't die immediately, but it fell down with a whimper and was unable to move anymore. Blood splattered on the ground, mixing with the soil and grass, forming a small red pool under its body.
She quickly knocked on another bolt and turned around, preparing to deal with the last two wolves. They had already come back to their senses and were pouncing on her from behind.
Her hair stood on an end from such a close call, without taking a proper aim, she pulled the trigger.
The bolt shot out and only grazed the side of a wolf, changing its trajectory slightly. The other one slashed at her neck, she deflected it with the stock of the crossbow and took a step back from the impact.
The wolf landed on the ground in front of her and stared at her savagely, with it jaws wide open. The saliva dripped down from its mouth and its sharp teeth threatening to tear her apart.
She stared back at it without fear, already holding a bolt in her hand. But she didn't have an opportunity to knock it on.
The wolf jumped at her ferociously, aiming at her neck. She hit its gapping maw from below with the stock of the crossbow with all the strength she could muster, forcing it to close its mouth. Right after, she gripped the bolt tightly and stab the wolf in the throat continuously with the bolt.
The blood splashed on her face from its injured throat. The wolf fell down, but she didn't get the chance to finish it off because the last wolf bit her left shoulder. It ambushed her from behind while she was dealing with the other wolf.
She couldn't hold back this time and cried out in pain. The crossbow loosened from her hands and fell down with a heavy metallic thud.
After losing control, a fierce light flashed in her eyes. She didn't try to release her shoulder from the jaws of the wolf but used this to hold the wolf in place. She took out the dagger from earlier and stabbed it in the eye.
The blade went in from the eye socket and pierced its head, killing it instantly. When it died, it still had her shoulder in its jaws. She fell down along with the dead wolf and took deep breaths to endure the pain.
She opened its jaws with her right hand and removed the sharp teeth embedded in her shoulder carefully before taking out her bloody shoulder from its jaws.
'System, give me a low-level healing potion.' She tried to endure the pain, but her breath still trembled.
She couldn't drop her guard just yet, there were still two wolves alive. Although, they weren't able to move, but there was no guarantee that they wouldn't try to kill her in a final attempt.
She raised the bottle containing the green liquid and gulped it down in one breath. The potion will take some time to heal the wounds, but the pain in her wounds lessened, which was enough for her to move around again.
She picked up the crossbow and checked it for any fault, luckily for her, it wasn't damaged in the least.
She knocked on the bolt and walked toward the closest injured wolf. It whimpered when it saw her aiming at it, its eyes showing desperation and pleadings for mercy. But nothing stopped Yuxi from pulling the trigger. She took a long breath and whispered. "Either you die or I die. And I don't want to die just yet."
She dealt with the remaining wolf in the same way and put the crossbow in the inventory.
After looking at the Map panel and making sure that there was no enemy around, she lay down on the ground to take a short break and waited for her wounds to heal.
After resting for a while, she stood up again and walked towards the corpse of a wolf closest to her. She pulled out the bolt embedded in its head and used a handkerchief to hold it. She was planning to clean these bolts later and use them again.
Then she opened her space pocket by using her space ability and put the corpse in it. She dealt with the other wolf carcasses around the tree in the same way, and then walked back to the spot where she woke up.
There were also some wolf corpses here, she put them inside her space pocket after removing the bolts from their bodies.
After she was done with everything here, she left the spot because the smell of blood was very thick here and could attract more monsters.
The terrain of this dungeon was that of a forest that stretched far and wide without an end in sight.
She opened the Map panel. The Map panel shows her different color dots representing different factions around her.
The blue dot represented herself, green represented her allies, yellow neutral faction and red showed her enemies.
But this was not the only function the Map panel had. It was called a map for a reason, it also showed the surrounding terrain.
Looking at the Map panel, she searched for any nearby hiding spots. It was necessary for her to find a hidden place to avoid being besieged by monsters again.
But the 1 km of area around her didn't have any hidden spots. She kept walking, avoiding any red dots and looking at the map from time to time.
She was looking for a small cave to rest for a while and gather herself before venturing deep into the dungeon.
She didn't find a cave but found a small stream. She squatted down near the stream and washed the blood on her body.
