(Alarm rings)
I stretched my hand to find the off switch on the darn alarm clock but as usual, I used my brute strength to crush it.
That was my 12th alarm clock this month. The truth was that I didn't want to go to school, I would always be seen in big clothes to hide myself from the others, just so I wouldn't stand out.
But my little twin brother would always find a way to humiliate me, no matter how hard I tried to blend in.
"My lady, it's time for you to wake up. His majesty requests you have breakfast with the family today." Venelopy, one of our maids informed me.
I groaned in my bed. I've always hated family mealtimes, it was always an avenue for Aspen to show off how well he handled his natural powers while making fun of me.
"I'll be down soon." I called back out so she would leave.
I took a warm shower, got out, and put on my usual, black pant, oversized t-shirt, another oversized hoodie and some combat boots to match. I fought my wild dirty blonde coloured hair into a large messy bun and I was ready to go.
I picked up my bag and phone and headed downstairs.
"You know, for a dog, you're really slow." Aspen said immediately I got down the stairs.
"Mom!" I screamed.
"Aspen, stop taunting your sister. I would like a peaceful family breakfast for once." Mom said sternly making Aspen to shift uncomfortably in his chair.
Winning the first victory of the day felt awesome and it put me in a good mood.
"So, this is your final semester at SP, how do you feel." Mom asked trying to start a conversation.
"This is going to be my best year yet, but someone's not going to graduate until they pass beginners magic." Aspen said giving me a proud look.
I couldn't stand it anymore, I was tired of being bullied in my own home.
"You know what, just because you can play with light and blossom some little flowers doesn't make you any better than me." I slammed my hand on the table standing up staring dead into my brother's eyes.
"Jokes on you, I've been practising with my light to harness its true powers, would you like to see it." Aspen said snapping his finger sending lighting jolts to the tip of his fingers.
I could feel my fangs and claws growing as I decided on the threat in front of me. But before I could pounce on Aspen, I felt something wrap tightly around my legs.
I looked down and was two snakes wrapped tightly around my legs and the chair. I was about to scream but Aspen beat me to it, and to tell the truth, it was worth having snakes curl around my legs to see Aspen screams like a little girl.
I didn't even know when I started laughing, I looked towards Dad and saw him also trying to contain his laughter.
"Dad!!! Get these things off me!" Aspen screamed.
The doors flew open as some of the guards and maids ran in, but when they saw what was going on, they bowed to my Dad, walked out and closed the door.
While my Dad kept a straight face like he didn't know what Aspen was talking about.
"Okay, fine. I'll behave, just get these things off me." Aspen pleaded with my Dad.
Dad took a look at Aspen's miserable state and raised an eyebrow demanding more.
"Fine, I'm Sorry Avyanna, I promise I won't provoke you... But you still have dog breath!" Dad took another look at Aspen and from the looks of it, I guess the snakes curled up his legs the more making Aspen scream out loud.
"YOU WIN! YOU WIN!! I'M SORRY!!!" Aspen screamed.
"Very well then." Dad said and the snakes' sliders were away from both our legs.
Immediately the snakes were gone Aspen shoot up from his chair and were about to storm out when Dad spoke.
"Aspen. Sit." Aspen looked at Dad with pure anger in his eyes but Dad pretended not to notice.
Aspen knew that Dad was not going to repeat himself, and after a while of glaring at Dad he sat down.
"Good. Now, the reason I insisted on a family breakfast is because of Aspen's coming of age ceremony, which is also Avyanna's birthday." Dad started.
"I know it is still some months away but it is a sacred day and this is also important because there might be a possibility that we might be able to unlock Avyanna's magical powers during the ritual." Dad finished.
The table was dead silent after that, the fact that I was 17 and haven't manifested my powers was bad enough but now there was a way for me to wake them.
"You've got to be kidding me." Aspen said breaking the silence.
"That day is supposed to be all about me. Why do you have to make a fuss over it because of her, she can be broken for all I care." Aspen said looking down at his phone.
I wanted to talk back but I heard a low growl that beat me to it, Mom's wolf. Mom's wolf was only ever like this when she got really angry or in heat, and from what I heard, was a long time ago.
"I didn't give birth to you to call my other child broken. I didn't raise you to behave like this in front of your father. I don't care if you're next in line but I will chain you to silver if I have to get you to behave yourself." Mom said in a threatening tone.
Even though Aspen showed no signs of having any werewolf attributes, he was always really sensitive when it came to silver.
We found out the hard way as kids, that not only did I burn when silver touched me, but it also hurt Aspen too.
"You always take her side and threaten me with silver, I'm not the child with a problem. Get your priorities straight." Aspen said storming out of the dining room.
"Where did I go wrong? why is he acting like this?" Mom said lowering her head and whimpering.
I was about to go comfort her but Dad raised up his hand, I looked at him and he smiled at me nodding for me to get to school.
I looked back at Dad because I didn't want to go, I hated seeing Mom like that. It broke my heart into a million pieces. And to think she was sad because of me made it almost very unbearable.
Dad gave me another light nod and I picked up my bag and stormed out of the dining room too almost in tears.
"Thank goodness you made it out. I was about to jump on that insolent brother of yours." I heard a voice say from behind me.
I looked around but there was no one there.
"What are you waiting for, let's go give that pretty-faced brother of yours a nice scar. I'm thinking one across the eye, then he'd look intimidating." I heard the voice again.
"Who's there?" I asked.
"Really? The Easter bunny. I'm your wolf dummy."
