CHAPTER 4
The closeness they had earlier today wasn't supposed to happen, to her, it seemed like a mistake. Myra couldn't help herself to think that he was almost at the point of kissing her. He tried taking advantage of her.
The thought of it left her clueless when it came to the question of what if he had kissed her? It's either she defends herself by shouting at him and getting herself fired or she takes it in without a word.
She felt elated the weekend was almost coming to an end, planning the weekend without relaxing from the stress of the office is all she has to do.
She bends down to fix the heels she had pulled off to relieve the pain she had felt in her legs after the long messages she had to undergo for her so-called boss.
"Myra".
She could recognize his voice without looking back, closing her eyes she tries her possible best to prevent herself from screaming.
The hard knock on her head from the desk as she tries to look up at him gave her a hurtful moan. She wondered what he has to send her this time around, it was almost 6 pm.
"Sir". She gives him a mockery tone as she turns to stand facing him. Seeing him holding his bag she sensed he was about to leave himself.
Kevin for a moment got amused she had almost injured herself for his sake, his mood changed from a humourous one to a pitiable one when she looks at him.
"Well you will have to stay for an extra hour". He responded straightening the collar of his long sleeve white shirt as he clears his throat.
"Sir, it's almost my closing hour and I need to rush off to attend to something urgent". She defensively looks at him.
Myra felt irritated for having to explain herself every minute of her stay in the office. She knew how right she was for working past her hours, remembering how crazy her boss was, she knew better.
"Tell me, Myra, what's more, urgent than your work?" He looks at her while crossing his arms together close to his chest.
Watching him smile from the other end of her table, she refused to buy to his smiles knowing how evil and pretentious they were. "But-sir?"
"But what Myra? You as my secretary get paid for extra hours done in the office. So what's your problem?"
He got her there, she had read something like that in the constitution of the company.
A secretary could stay out late as long as her boss hasn't gone home yet. Myra couldn't help but hide the hurt she felt, she had barely eaten anything reasonable throughout today, no time to clean her home, no time to even cook something nice for herself all because of work that pays her close to four thousand dollars bill.
Though her pay is the highest so far from what she had received from her former jobs, she felt Kevin is only treating her unfairly.
She sighed at the thought of finding out she had lost five pounds just yesterday, the thought of losing another scared her the most.
Her boss is worst than a beast and she promises herself he won't get to her easily.
"So I'm going to take the silence that you understand then, the files are in my office". Her character would depend on if he's going to take it further or less further.
She doesn't look bad on her neatness, quite stubborn for his liking, she would succumb, he thought to himself as he left her in silence.
"Excuse me, sir".
"Yes". He paused at his steps without looking at her.
"Can't I do it tomorrow? I- I mean I'll be the only person left here". She hates it when she stammers, grunting in disgust she wishes he agrees to her last request.
"Are you patronizing me to stay with you till it's done?" Kevin tries not to put excitement in his tone.
What a selfish rich brat? Who does he think he is? Trying to put her in a question to use in setting her up was the least she expected. "No sir".
She responded in resignation. He had won this time around, she thought to herself as she refused to push further.
"Then you better get to work". He ordered her. He took a few steps but stopped suddenly, "Remember there should be no excuse for your lateness tomorrow".
He concluded and left, banging the door behind him recklessly.
Finally, he had gone, though the office looked lonely,
Myra preferred it to the nagging of her new boss. Her head immediately started banging like it was going to split into two, the hard-knock on the desk had certainly been the cause.
She touches her forehead to feel the spot and notices it was starting to get swollen.
Entering into his well-furnished office, she noticed he had not even one single of his pictures hung on the wall.
This made her realize he was a boring guy which makes her see a reason to the fact why he acted so irritated and authoritative at any single person he encounters.
Through his office window one could see what was going on in the building, she drew closer to the window as she immediately caught sight of his car leaving the company's premises.
She prays silently the workload should be few to free her to have a good rest.
Walking slowly towards his desk she could the rate at which her heartbeat like it was going to explode any moment from now.
Ahhhhhhhh. She heard herself scream as she sat on one of the chairs to control herself.
Drawing closer, she felt the files and noticed what he had done to her. This was a punishment, nothing more.
She wondered why he was frustrating her and wished she had a twin to help her in the suffering.
Myra first pulls off her heels and threw them on the ground then carries the files to her desk. All she had to do was to copy the appointment dates and times he had with the specific owners of the files to her system as a reminder.
She decided to bear the hunger she felt and instead focus on the work at hand, guessing the files shouldn't be less than 30, she still would have to cheat this time.
Since Kelvin won't hear her out. She had no other choice but to share the files into two. Half to be done now and the others, once she gets home, having a system at home, had been so much relief for her.
She was almost done with the first half of the file when her phone rang. Without looking at the caller she picked up the call. "Hello". She responded hanging it on her neck while she continued with her file.
"Baby girl, where are you? Stopped by today but no response".
"Work stuff, even till now". She heaved a sigh as she tries to concentrate.
"What?"
"Ya, look I'll call you back once I'm done". She responded trying as much as possible to be polite.
"Alright, just take it easy".
"Thanks". She concluded as she hung up the call. Fixing the first half of the file together and saving it, she disconnects the flash drive from the side of the office system as she keeps it immediately in her not thinking twice.
After arranging her stuff she realized she had been working on bare feet as she looks everywhere for it.
It was past 9 already, she has to dash off before turning into a madwoman. Although the office AC is working she desperately needed a warm bath.
Checking her boss's office she found her heels and sighed in relief, she had never felt this tiredness before.
Sleeping tonight might reduce the stress but certainly, it won't be enough.
Carrying the remaining file wasn't at all her best idea. Myra felt it was better off if she sleep in the office.
She headed straight for the elevator as she hit the last floor which took her to the building that led to the car pack. After arranging her stuff into the back seat, she heard her phone ring again. Looking at the caller she noticed it was her boss, calling her at this hour.
Seriously? She hissed as she carelessly dropped her phone back into her bag and slammed the door. The headache she felt had increased, rest was the only thing that came to her mind. She knew tomorrow would be unbearable but she got tonight in her hands and what comes first is her safety and no one else, not even Kelvin, she thought to herself as she drove off without thinking twice.
Parking her car inside her compound, she went straight to get her stuff into her house. After taking her shower she changed her mind to rest just for an hour before heading back to work, she concluded as she dozed off on her bed with her towel tied to her chest.
