Chapter two
That morning seemed so good for Myra. After several hours of deciding Kevin wouldn't pursue her, she eventually decided to get set for the next day.
Myra hasn't seen Kevin Smith before but she knew of how far his names have gone. He was the best of the best whenever businesses were involved.
Companies would beg him to handle their work for a month because they knew there would be positive changes.
Kevin was just skilled naturally. And aside, he finished at Harvard University.
Aside from his intelligence, people that had seen him talked of his handsomeness. But even Myra wasn't able to check that on Saturday.
The moment she saw the name on the ID, she took to her heel.
Myra walked into the meeting room. She heard that a new CEO would start work that day.
He was transferred from the main branch of Tan and shine body cream.
Myra was recently employed. She finished her degree a year ago and has been looking for a job opportunity. Her mother was a florist and they needed money to keep living.
She resumed a week ago as the secretary of a new CEO they were bringing over later.
The first week was very easy for Myra, as she awaited her boss.
And then, she knew the upcoming week would be a load of work for her.
She walked to her seat and looked around at the other co-workers, the board of directors, and other employees higher than her with position, settling down to welcome the new CEO of shining Hope.
The door opened suddenly and everyone whipped their face towards the person. His cologne seemed to fill the air around them that Myra also had to look up at him.
Her eyes widen as she stared at the man that came over to buy some flowers from her mother's shop.
Unbelievable! Myra kept her mouth open in agape as she watched Kevin move to a seat.
Myra couldn't understand how Smith Kevin would be transferred to Shining hope. Aside from that, she found it difficult to believe she would be working for him as the secretary.
She would be working for the man she talked down to on Saturday. She didn't even give him his remaining money.
Kevin looked up suddenly as if sensing someone was watching him. His gaze met with Myra. Myra was the first to look away.
"So, let's welcome Mr. Kevin Smith to our midst," the head of the board of directors said.
Kevin got up, his eyes on Myra, "Well, I'm Kevin and I'm here for the improvement and the progress of this company. I hope I will get all the help I can get to ensure this company runs smoothly," he concluded and smiled.
All the ladies in the room giggled. Seriously, Kevin was very handsome
" Definitely!" Someone said from the crowd and claps of applause filled the air.
Myra managed to clap amidst the shocking revelation she just had.
Kevin sat and stared back at Myra. Maybe he remembered her or not, Myra couldn't say but she felt so little under his scrutiny.
She didn't even know what went wrong with her on Saturday and why she had to act so harsh to Kevin not knowing he would be her new boss.
Everyone was asked to make a brief introduction so Kevin would get familiar with them.
Myra wasn't concentrating on it. She started to think of what would happen to her, especially the fact that she was his secretary. He could even sack her.
The thoughts alone sent shivers down her spine. Myra just got the job and losing it felt like a dagger to her throat.
Someone tapped Myra slightly. She jerked up and looked up at Tina, "Your turn," Tina mouthed for her.
She adjusted herself and stood up, "Hi Mr. Kevin, my name is Myra and I'm your secretary."
Sean, the head of the board of directors stood again, " Let's work together with the new CEO and make this company one of the best in this state!"
There goes another round of applause and everyone gets up to leave.
Myra looked up at Kevin and noticed he wasn't looking. She stood up and started walking towards the door.
"My secretary is to stay," Kevin said suddenly, startling Myra. Myra stopped moving but didn't turn around, " Myra Rogers?" He called slowly as if tasting the sound of it.
Myra took a deep breath before she whirled around to look at her boss, the expression that flickered across Kevin's face told her she just got into trouble.
Kevin scoffed and picked a file on the table before him. He got up and walked to her, "Do you remember me?"
Myra made a straight face, " I don't know what you are talking about sir."
Kevin laughed again, " Really? Fine then," he turned away from her, " I will just go for the last option on my mind."
Last option? Myra shivered suddenly. Call it instincts but her mind couldn't stop wrapping around the fact that Kevin might want to sack her.
She really needed the job because of her mother. Her mother has been working so hard to make her go to school. Now that she was done, the number one thing on her mind was earning back more for her.
Myra went down on her knees before she could think about it. Keeping the job was the main priority for her.
Kevin turned around, amazed but with his expression, one will know he wasn't surprised.
"I'm sorry sir, I didn't mean to say all I said to you on Saturday," she beseeched.
Kevin beheld her for a moment, "Why don't you tell me your age now?" He raised a brow and waited.
" Twenty-five," she blurted out, ashamed of herself.
Kevin nodded briefly, "it's ok," he said casually, "I'm alright with that," he watched her again, "Your first assignment as the secretary is to write an apology letter to me. You are to submit it tomorrow," he finished up and walked out.
Myra placed a hand over her chest and sighed severally. She thought Kevin was going to sack her but he told her to write an apology letter instead.
Maybe he wasn't as the world had painted him.
Myra had made some investigation after the Saturday incident and had discovered that Kevin was arrogant and loved pulling stunts. But now it seemed it was all a lie.
Myra stood up and whirled toward the door. The door opened almost immediately and Kevin stretched his head in, "Oh, I forgot. The apology letter is your second assignment, the first is cleaning my desk."
" What? That's not my job sir!" Myra fired back.
Kevin thought for a while, " Oh, so it should be my job? Meet me in the office in the next one minute or you will lose your job," he finished and left.
Myra stared at the door for a while, unable to believe her ears. Should she go for it or not?
