As the day goes on, Putri gets used to her daily life at Jodi's house. However, on the second day she was there, she was forced to wait at home because Mrs. Siti was gardening and Jodi was working.
"Putri, do you want to come with me to the field? I want to harvest corn."
Mrs. Siti prepared the baskets that she used to bring to the garden. Not to forget the food she cooked for lunch later. A triangle-shaped woven hat was already next to her.
"You have a corn garden? Wow, it's cool!"
Putri was amazed to see Mrs. Siti laughing amusedly after hearing her remarks.
The Putri followed Mrs. Siti to the field. A few meters of walking exhausted her until she asked for a short rest by sitting shelter under a shady tree.
After taking several climbs, the two finally came to the corn garden they were going to. The park, which is on a hill and surrounded by trees, makes the atmosphere beautiful, plus the breeze seems to welcome the arrival of the two.
"You wait in the hut, ok? I pegged the corn first," said Mrs. Siti.
"
Putri said yes to Mrs. Siti's direction.
However, that afternoon Putri saw something that touched her heart. A woman who lives with her son works hard, bathed in sweat, to survive. But, even so, happiness always radiated from the eyes of Jodi and her mother, which made Putri not understand.
'Where does happiness come from? The place of residence alone, they need to pay the rent once a month. There are almost no luxury items in their homes. What do they have so they can look happy? As for me? I can have nearly fifty million in a month, and my bedroom is twice the size of their living room. But I don't feel happy. Why is it like that?' she asked silently.
The time was already 12:30. Three women picked corn, including Mrs. Siti, and came to the hut where Putri was waiting. They got to know each other with Putri cordially.
Each week brought a lunch to eat along with the other corn pickers. Sharing side dishes, chatting, and joking make the atmosphere even happier.
Mrs. Siti informed that she and other mothers were ordered to work half a day, especially today, for one reason or another. The other pickers were allowed to say goodbye to go home first while Putri and Mrs. Siti was still in the hut enjoying the scenery in front of her.
"Putri, I wanna ask you something?" asked Mrs. Siti.
"Sure. What is it?"
"Do you have a boyfriend?"
"I don't have a boyfriend, mam. But I was matched with someone,"
"So, do you like that guy?"
"Yes, ma'am. He's a nice guy, well-educated friendly."
Suddenly, The look on Mrs. Siti's face changed instantly. She even stopped her chewing mouth.
Having been confused by Mrs. Siti's silent attitude, Putri did not ignore her too much. The woman returned home when Jodi had already returned home.
"Uh, Where's Putri, Mom?" asked Jodi.
"We're from the cornfield, Jod. How come, have you been home at this time?" said Putri.
Without answering, Mrs. Siti passed into the kitchen, leaving her son and Putri talking.
After cleansing her body, Putri felt something strange. Mrs. Siti has not been out of her room since returning home from the garden this afternoon. To watch tv together, she remained silent without leaving the room. Seeing this, Jodi took the initiative to fight directly with her mother.
Knock Knock
"Mom, this is Jodi." Slowly, Jodi walked into his mother's room cautiously. Putri also went back into her room to sleep. Although she still feels awkward with Mrs. Siti's attitude, she does not want to interfere and does not feel she has made mistakes. She also didn't dare to ask what directly caused Mrs. Siti to become like that.
"Mom, what happened?" asked Jodi quietly.
Without answering, the mother suddenly hugged Jodi with a faintly audible sobbing.
"Mom, Mom, why?! " he asked again in panic.
"She's already going to get married, God!" said the mother softly.
"Marry? What are you talking about?" snapped Jodi.
Mrs. Siti held Jodi's face with both hands and said,
"Putri, She's been in a match with someone else, and she likes that man. There's no hope for you anymore, kid. Indeed, people like us don't deserve any dream because in the end, it's just a dream, and it's impossible to happen," Mrs. Siti replied with tears streaming down her cheeks.
Hearing her mother's story, Jodi smiled sweetly and held both mother's snag hands.
"Mom, that love doesn't have to have. My love for Putri is sincere, and I hope for nothing in return. If indeed Putri is not Jodi's soul mate, Jodi is sure, God will give you the best more than we thought. This is not the end of everything, mom."
Mrs. Siti knows very well that Jodi has indeed kept the feeling of having Putri for a long time. It's not wrong if a mother is disappointed in her child's broken hopes. Mrs. Siti was sure Jodi felt a lot of pain in her heart, but she covered it up.
The mother nodded and hugged her child tightly with tears. As strong as possible, Jodi strengthened herself and tried to be strong in front of her mother.
The following day, Mrs. Siti's attitude had returned to the way it was before, although, with moist eyes, she was aware of her son's words and tried to behave as usual again. Because, after all, Putri is indeed not wrong. When sweeping the floor, Mrs. Siti was amazed to see Putri, busy pacing back and forth in the room while tidying up her clothes.
"Putri, where are you going early in the morning? Have you cleaned up your clothes?" asked Mrs. Siti?
"Uh, Mam. Yes, I want to stay at a hotel near the hospital. Let it work. After all, I have been staying here for almost three days, and it's not good with the neighbors."
"Oh my gosh, the neighbor here already knows about you. Jodi also slept at his friend's house in front. So you won't negotiate anything about mom," said Mrs. Siti.
"It's ok, ma'am. Almost three days I've been here, it's not good to keep bothering. Sometime I'll be here again anyway, ma'am."
It was hard for Putri to leave Mrs. Siti's house. It's not about Jodi, but Mrs. Siti teaches many essential things in life that she sometimes doesn't think of.
That morning, Putri said goodbye to Jodi, and Mrs. Siti did not forget to thank her for everything. Jodi was pleased about the presence of her favorite woman in her little hut. Putri will never forget the services of Mrs. Siti and Jodi as long as she was in a slump yesterday.
"I'll see you at the hospital, Mrs. Doctor," he said, talking as the woman left.
Meanwhile, she will be staying at the Royal Hotel, just two hundred meters from the hospital where she works. When she arrived at the hotel, she opened his suitcase and saw Jodi's T-shirt she had borrowed on the first day of her stay.
She will keep the plain light blue T-shirt to remind himself of Mrs. Siti. Remembering one thing, she picked up his mobile phone and contacted someone she had longed for.
"Hello, Andi, today we met, ok?"
