"I didn't see anything, did you hear what I said? I didn't see anything!" Charity yelled for the second time as she barricaded herself in the bathroom door.
"Fine, fine you didn't see anything. Come out" he said, doing the most to hold in his laughter. He found it odd that she was acting so squirmish after that, most women blushed but they never hid the apparent lust in their eyes. But Charity was the opposite it was she was trying to deny it, run away from it. It was cute, but what to do? He couldn't remember the last time he wanted somebody like this, and he was already spoiled from the beginning of time, when he wanted something he always got it.
"Go away first," she said and he began to step away from the door she added, "and put on some clothes!"
He wanted to tease he even further but decided against it, he wanted her to come out of the bathroom not make it a permanent home.
"There are clothes on the bed for you, you can meet me in the breakfast lounge when you are done." He yelled from the room and when she didn't reply he just picked up a notepad and left a note. A small smile etched on his lips as he walked out.
*************
Charis held in an audible groan when her phone buzzed for the fifth time that morning. Annie had not stopped texting her about all the various new assumptions she kept coming up with after their conversation this morning.
"He doesn't remember you?!"
"Yes," Charis said through gritted teeth, "keep your voice down."
Annie searched her surroundings and nodded, "sorry, it's just this is really surprising. But you did say it was a month, he must meet with so many people during that time."
Charis' brows furrowed, "what does that mean?"
"It means I am right about him and you should keep your distance, if he can't even remember you even after taking you home the second time then he must encounter a lot of women." She shrugged, "or he never really found you attractive in the first place."
"Hey! That's mean."
"Is it?" Annie asked honestly, "sorry but think about it. You met him in a bar, he must have been drunk or just connecting to that vibe. But look how he is at work, he might not have been able to connect the two, and he isn't exactly setting a romantic vibe."
Charis sighed, "I guess it's for the best then."
Annie hummed, "is this the same Charis? Charis do you like him?!"
"Hey! Keep your voice down! And of course not, when have I ever liked anyone?" She pouted.
"All the time" Annie retorted with accurate honesty.
Charis' eyes widened at her bluntness but even she could not deny it, "well not him. I can't like him and it is for the best that he doesn't remember me."
"Atta girl, from now on keep your absolute distance from him."
****************
"Hey, Charis, pack your bags your going on fieldwork today," Prisca yelled from her desk and Charis' head shot up.
"What?"
"Didn't you hear me, or are you getting deaf?" Prisca said and Charis laughed. "Are you laughing?"
"You must have forgotten right? You gave me the entire proposal to prepare a presentation for by next week, I am unsure if I would be able to complete it by next week even with all the overtime and you want me to go out today?" She asked in shock.
Prisca looked away briefly just realizing that she already had so much to do, but the rest of the office already turned to look at her so she couldn't lose face.
"this insolent brat" there were audible gasps but she smiled and looked at Charis and the others. "Oh, my was that audible? Sorry, it's just that she wouldn't let me land before she opens up that smart mouth."
"I was going to assign Bruno to the project as well to help."
"What?" Bruno sat up straighter in his seat but she ignored him and continued speaking.
"What? Do you have another excuse as to not do the job you are being paid to do?" Prisca asked. "Besides I will be accompanying you along with team heads from advertising and marketing."
Charis couldn't say anything anymore, she had perfectly managed to trap her and now she had no say in the matter. Shutting her laptop she shoved it and other personal belongings in her bag and got up. "When do we leave?"
'Lord give me patience, dear God please give me the patience' Charis chanted in her head as she staggered with all the load the had her carry. The three-team heads treated her like she was a non-living cart, dumping their load unto her. And it was all Prisca's fault, sure she would carry the brunt if the load. Not only was she an intern she was also she was the only one that wasn't a team head here. So Prisca took the opportunity to enslave her, telling the other dimwitted team leaders that she was happy to do the work.
"She even offered to come with me and help. Let her carry it, we have a lot more to do." She said, even though they saw how she trembled. Or maybe they didn't notice?
Dropping the packages after she got off the elevator she looked around but had... her phone buzzed and she pulled it out to check it was a text from Prisca.
"Get the packages to the office, we have gone to the next site." Charis' eyes widened and as she opened up her mouth to curse she shut it and bent beside the packages. "How in the world?" She huffed, pushing away the strands of hair already sticking to her skin because of sweat.
