Jasper shook his head, and tried to explain, "My brother is not in-"
"Don't insult me by lying, Jasper," Melvyn cut him off threateningly, "We have a deal with the witches, and they have a curse to support that. Have you forgotten?" He pointed out.
If the Witch retaliates, that means they have the right to do so. If not, the first one who would call and bitch none stop would be Ursula, demanding him to accept compensation.
She has this principle that justice must prevail and because of this, Ursula would not tolerate or cover up for any of her coven member's mistakes. She believed in the stupid notion of equality.
Melvyn found this completely laughable, even when he had already seen a lot of things because of him being alive for hundreds of years.
Unable to lie further, Jasper tried to argue, "My lord, his prey had led him there, and we think that it had been told to do so because it was planned. A trap, led by the witches!" He claimed full of conviction.
Melvyn suddenly stood up. Before Jasper could even blink, Melvyn was already in front of him, causing him to jump back in flight.
Melvyn was the oldest vampire in their clan. Because of this, there was no question for him to be called the strongest and the fastest.
He was also the most cunning, for that matter, aside from him being known to be very moody.
At this time, Jasper was using up his luck. He was courageous enough to stand in front of their clan leaders, especially in front of Melvyn, because he knew that he was in a good mood.
He doesn't have a beloved, but he had acquired a new slave recently. Melvyn got a mermaid that was well known to be the vampire's favorite.
Still, even though Melvyn was not showing any murderous vibe and clearly not mad, he was still quite feared by all the supernatural beings, and that included the vampires that were close to him.
Melvyn was standing in front of Jasper, looking at him intently with his red, bright eyes. The time had stopped for Melvyn. His facial features were stuck in his mid-thirties.
His jet black hair was neatly brushed and oiled his skin, and like all vampires, he is pale.
He looked like a handsome man that could easily be on the cover of an international magazine. Especially when Melvyn smiled, he looked so dazzling.
However, even though Jasper could get distracted by Melvyn's appearance, the coldness that he felt around him was prickling to his skin, if that was even possible.
With the low temperature and him being cold-blooded, it was baffling how beads of sweat would be seen on his forehead.
Jasper's mind started to spin negatively. He had remembered the time when Melvyn, as the strongest vampires, held someone's clocked before the vampire was dragged out of the throne room just because he smelled like piss.
Melvyn smirked, "Jasper, your statement needs proof, or that will get us in trouble. Make sure that you are willing to be sacrificed to the witches if you are only talking nonsense." He said casually.
Jasper nervously swallowed, "My lord, I... I only thought what is best for the clan-"
"Enough. We will look into the matter, and if what you said is true, then we shall take the necessary measures." Melvyn assured, "but if it is a lie, I would hate to turn savage and kill every person you love before I seal you. Well, I don't know what the witches have planned for vampires, though. Surely, something very tragic? What a pity..." He said, his tone completely contradicting the gaze of anticipation in his eyes.
With Melvyn toying with their emotions, the men that had come to report the incident practically wanted to run out of the throne room but could not do so immediately.
Thankfully, Melvyn was really in a good mood and did not want to waste time torturing vampires emotionally.
After they were dismissed, Jasper's brother was taken to the hospital immediately.
As the door shut loudly, the two other old vampires looked at Melvyn, waiting for him to give the go-ahead on what to be done about the attack and the report.
They knew that even though Melvyn had treated it casually, it was nothing like that at all.
"Looks like we are starting to go back to when we used to fight with the witches. I can't believe that we are going to be doing this again," Myles said in displeasure. He is the vampire that was sitting at Melvyn's side earlier.
No one wanted war. Though it can be considered 'eating while killing,' there were still too many casualties. They don't mind fighting, though, as that was normal in some way.
