Amy desperately tried to get rid of anything that could reveal her spying intentions as she frantically shoved her laptop below the seat, retrieved the camera from the dashboard, and roughly shoved the wires inside the car drawer.
Amy then stared at the front mirror and rechecked her appearance for implicating materials. She took a magazine she bought as a cover and pretend to read. Then she heard a knock on the car window. She looked outside and saw the man she'd been following smiling and waving at her.
Amy dropped the car window down and flashed her brightest smile. "Oh hi! Do you need anything?" Damn it, she shouldn't have smiled at all.
"Oh, nothing at all. My wife seemed concerned. She said she saw the same kind of your car in our neighbourhood and saw your car tailing her behind throughout the trip here. Don't be offended at all, but were you the one following us behind?"
Amy pretended to be confused and ignorant, "What? My car? No sir I've been here waiting for my brother to come in. He also attends this gym centre, but you know, I'm not a fan of workouts, so I decided to wait in the car and wait. Hope I wasn't making your wife uncomfortable?" Amy displayed a face of concern.
"No, not at all ma'am. Thank you very much. Sorry for the inconvenience" the man concluded and left her car window. Amy breathed a sigh of relief. She then looked at the man walk to his wife and explained something to her, but somehow, she was hearing what they said.
"Don't worry, it's just a young girl in that car, nothing strange." The man said.
"Are you sure, because I'm sure I saw that exact car when we left the house?" The woman asked worriedly.
"As I said, it was just a young woman. Don't get worked up honey, remember we came here to 'loosen ourselves'. Get it?" the man said and smiled.
"Stop your puns" the woman laughed lightly. "But I'm serious, remember what happened to James when we left him in one room, irresponsible by us anyway, and some kidnappers attempted to take him away? I'm just being cautious."
"And you're doing a great job. You are the best mom James would ever have after his mom" the man said. "Awww, thank you very much" the woman smiled, and held hands together and walked into the door of the gym centre, but the woman took a last look at the car before she and her husband disappeared into the building.
Amy sighed again, "That was close," she thought. She then grabbed the laptop below her seat and opened it. It turned out that she turned on the audio capture program in her pc, which made her hear the conversations of people at a 10 meter's radius, thanks to the microphone she placed outside.
'I wanted to use this discreetly' Amy thought as she turned off the program. To cancel out any unwanted suspicion, she waited for ten minutes, started the engine and left the parking lot.
Amy drove back to the hotel and parked her car. She then took out the microphones, amplifiers and her laptop and put them all in her backpack. She then walked back to the hotel's building, while looking back intermittently.
Amy opened the door of her room and dropped the back gently on the floor and dropped to the bed 'urrrrgh what a long day' she groaned. She stayed in that position until she took her smartphone and dialled Matt.
"Hi Amy," Matt said immediately the line connected. "Hi, Matt! How are you doing back home?" Amy could not help but smile. "Nothing at all, just eating and watching movies and sleeping. You know I do most of my activities with you anyway, so right now, my life is pretty boring. How was yours?"
Amy chuckled heartily. "Yours is even better. I cannot eat a decent meal here. Boston is a beautiful city, but yet I cannot admire it without the thought that I have to complete my job here" Amy faked whining.
"That's awful! You know what, how about this, I take you on a vacation to the place of your choice? It would be just you and me and nobody telling us what to do. How does that sound?"
"That sounds great, but it would depend if my icy manager would give me a week off."
Amy and Matt began to talk about other aspects of things till 9 pm. "Yawn, I am feeling sleepy, sorry Matt but you gotta keep telling me about your sassy sister tomorrow," Amy said and jumped into the bed.
"Alright babe, have a good night sleep. I love you" Matt concluded "I love you too Matt. Goodnight" then the line disconnected. Amy still kept the phone close to her ear for a minute before deciding to call it a day. She then went to the bathroom to clean herself before climbing to the bed to sleep.
Day 3, Thursday.
The following morning, Amy woke up and left for the toilet to relieve herself. She then took her electric brush, applied toothpaste and began brushing her teeth.
Amidst brushing, her phone dinged, indicating an SMS. She spat the remaining paste into the bowel and washed her mouth thoroughly. After the ritual, she came out of the toilet and checked her smartphone.
It was from Matt. It was sent at 03:21 am.
She opened the message which read:
"Babcnvjhiueahrov9iueorvjeaqppppppppppppppppppppp"
Amy was confused. Was he the one that sent this message? Amy shrugged and assumed that Matt must have butt texted her, so she replied and smiled.
'Check your phone and make sure you don't butt text your sassy sis, she would not give you the time of the day" she then sent the message.
Amy then wore a white towel and headed to the bathroom to clean herself. A few minutes later, she came out and dried herself properly. She then blew her hair with the hotel's complimentary hairdryer and sat on the chair with a mirror in her front.
Amy combed her hair gently and applied light makeup. She checked herself in the mirror. Satisfied, she then rearranged and packed her equipment into her backpack.
Before she left, she opened her laptop and wrote another line on the document she was writing with.
Day 3 of Smith's and Hart's investigation
Amy closed her laptop and headed downstairs. She decided not to get close to James' house due to what happened yesterday, so as not to arouse suspicion, she made sure she wore a dress that was as casual as possible, and that was what she did.
Amy wired the car just like she did yesterday, and just like that, she was ready. Nevertheless, Amy was more concerned about James than the rest of his foster family, so she decided to spend more of her time listening to him.
However, she planned not to give any of James reports to her manager the reason she even came here was to indirectly warn the family of danger.
