Amy didn't receive any visitors till around 8 am in morning, Matt's little sister came to her bed. There were tear tracks on her face, indicating that she had cried for a long time.
"What happened, what happened to big brother" she began to wail immediately she set her eye on Amy, who didn't even respond. "Why did you decide to leave him alone, who killed him, Amy?"
"Sorry ma'am but you cannot make such kind of noise here, there are other patients receiving treatments you know," the nurse said albeit irritatingly. The nurse administering Amy's treatment did a little checkup on Amy before packing all the medications on the tray.
"You are free to go, ma'am. You are alright" the nurse concluded as she left the room. Amy stood up and silently left, without noticing the young woman by her bed. She left the hospital and waved at a taxi outside.
"Amy, wait!" she could hear someone calling her name, but it was on echoes, so she didn't mind it a bit. She was about to enter the cab when a woman pulled her arm. "Amy, hold on!".
Amy was forced to turn back, registering her face. "Oh, it's you, Anita," Amy said slowly. Anita then closed the cab's door and signalled him to keep driving.
"What happened Amy, huh, where were you?" Anita said in tears. "I-I don't know. I talked to Matt yesterday, he was here yesterday, I wanted to meet him today, maybe he went to buy groceries, maybe." Amy said still delirious.
"No Amy, Matt's dead. He is gone, and it's your fault. I told him to visit me two days ago, but he kept rambling that he does not want to leave you alone, but look at where we are, he's gone, forever" Anita spat and gave Amy a thundering slap, finally waking her completely.
Her face ached as she rubbed it with a shocked expression. Amy wanted to say something, but Anita had already walked away to her car. Amy slowly turned around and raised her hands again.
"Take me to AIRC," she told the cab driver, who promptly stepped on the gas. She was not going back to that empty shell she once called home, she wanted to go back to her office so that she might be able to see who killed Matt.
Amy could not believe this. Matt was dead. No, it's not true. Maybe it was another person. Maybe it was someone that looked exactly like Matt. It was possible that Matt went to go see a movie, yeah, that made sense to her, so she smiled a little.
When the thoughts came back to her again—the decapacitated head, the mashed up body, she burst out in tears. She could not believe her worst fear had come true. She cried so much that the taxi man became a bit alarmed.
"Uhh, ma'am, are you okay?" he asked, glancing at his front mirror. "No, yeah I'm fine. I lost--lost—l—" she could not complete her statement as another wail escaped her mouth.
When she arrived at AIRC, she alighted from the cab and paid the cabman. "Uhh wait for ma'am, you gave me double of the fare" the cabman shouted at Amy, who was too dazed to hear anything. She sluggishly walked into the building of company.
When she entered, the receptionist stared at her pitifully. She had already known. When she walked into the elevator, she noticed everyone looking at her. They all knew.
She looked at the small mirror on the elevator and frowned slightly. She looked terrible. My makeup is ruined, she thought. She desperately cleaned her makeup from her face, while simultaneously wiping the tears that kept flowing from her eyes.
When she came to her floor, the first person to approach her was Henry. "Ohh Amy sorry for your loss. I heard about it yesterday". Amy stared at Henry's face, which displayed pity and worry.
Wow, this guy can act so well. Amy suspected it was Henry that killed Matt, but she couldn't accuse him. She walked past him, but Henry kept hovering around her as she kept walking to her desk.
Amy sat down without a word. She looked at her blank computer screen as she listened to the usual noise of the office. "Do you need anything, like water, coffee, or tissue paper?" Henry asked looking concerned.
Amy did not respond. She kept looking at her reflection on the monitor in silence. "Come on Amy, say something, anything" Henry insisted, but Amy remained silent.
Then the telephone on her desk rang. She gently picked it up and placed it in her left ear. "Come to my office immediately" a gruff voice barked on the other end.
Amy dropped the telephone back to its cradle. "What happened?" Henry asked, but the only response he received was Amy standing up and walking away from her desk to the office that was labelled "Administration Office".
Amy was usually terrified of going to this office, but this time, she didn't feel fear. She didn't feel anything at all. She entered the office and sat down on the nearest chair she saw.
"Did I ask you to sit Amy?" her manager began, but Amy did not stand up. "Are you deaf?!" he thundered angrily, causing Amy to shiver and stand up slowly. "So, you are trying to get on my nerves just because a stupid nobody died huh? Take this and submit them back if you're done with it" the manager hollered as he roughly shoved the paperwork to Amy.
"Mr Charles, you did not know?" Amy asked, looking at his dark brown eyes. He might be unapproachable or unfriendly, but Amy was surprised by his insensitivity. A nobody? The person that meant the world to her is a nobody?
Charles appeared shocked, so he stood up from his seat, walked to Amy and gave her a painful slap on her cheek, causing her to fall from her seat.
"How dare you call me by my name? Are you insane?" Charles thundered, attracting attention as the employees began staring at the transparent glass office.
The slap almost made Amy pass out. She gently touched her face and looked at her palms. There was bright blood on it. The ring on his finger ripped her skin so much her cheekbones were almost showing.
Amy had just received two slaps, for two completely different reasons. She shakily stood up and stared at Charles. Charles was still glaring at her with his icy eyes like a predator to the prey. Amy nodded slightly and took the paperwork and left the office.
Amy walked to her desk with her face lowered. She noticed people staring at her, and anytime she looks at them, they would turn their faces away and ignore her.
Amy booted her computer and began processing the paperwork. Her mind began to drift in and out as her body went on autopilot.
Amy parent's both died in a car accident many years ago, her sister died trying to abort an unwanted pregnancy, and her younger brother fell to his death while trying to perform a dangerous stunt he saw online.
The only thing that kept her from thinking about them and feeling lonely was because she had Matt. Matt had been her sunshine in her dark days, he had been her comfort in those distressing moments. Now he was dead, forever, thanks to Henry.
Her face became twisted in rage as she thought of this. She then stopped doing the task she was given, ran a sandbox she programmed, opened Chrome browser and typed the YouTube URL.
She then searched for 'How to revenge with blood' which brought results less pertaining to what she searched. She played one of the videos and began watching, but she wasn't satisfied, she then googled animal killings. One part of the video showed the host bringing a knife and slowly cutting a goat, blood flowing freely out from its throat, causing Amy to laugh hysterically.
Amy was broken.
