The cab stopped at the front gate of James' home, and Amy alighted and paid the cabman. She then proceeded to the gate and knocked it gently, but no one answered. Amy knocked harder, still no response. Amy was confused.
"Where the hell is this people?", she asked impatiently. "Mr Hart, Mrs Hart?" she shouted over the gate. The place was unusually silent. It seemed there was no activity in the house either, she thought.
Amy then left the gate and thought, but then she saw a woman pass by. "Hey, hey ma'am" Amy called over as she approached the woman. The woman turned to see who was calling her and saw a young woman coming in her direction.
"Hey, sorry for troubling you, but do you know where the residents of this house went to?" Amy asked, staring at the woman. The woman was obviously uncomfortable at the way this young woman was staring at her, but she still replied to her.
"Yeah, they all went that way, towards the local hospital" the woman pointed across the street. Amy was slightly confused. Why would they go to a hospital? Was any of them sick or something? She contemplated, but she had no time to ponder on this, so she came closer to the woman.
"Alright give me the address woman," Amy said ruggedly. The woman was slightly alarmed "Woman? It seems you don't show respect to elders huh?" she said glaring at her.
Amy flared in rage. She grabbed the woman's top and screamed "Do you think I have any f*cking time to be respectful to elders? Give me the damned address or else I'll twist your neck till it breaks" she screamed, before regretting what she just said. She pulled away from the woman and changed her composure.
"I'm sorry for reacting that way, it's just that a lot has been going on lately in my life, I just need this address, because I'm a relative of uh—James" Amy lied. The stunned woman then calmed down and smiled gently "No problem, I understand." She then told Amy the address, who promptly thanked her and waved to a cab and left for the hospital.
The woman took out her cellphone and dialled a number. "Hello…yeah… there is something I want to report."
Amy arrived at the hospital, but she didn't go inside. Charles was probably tracking her, and unless she was able to remove the trail, she cannot risk going inside the hospital and revealing James' current location. Instead, she walked back and forth across the street as she thought of what to do. She kept a close eye on the hospital door's entrance, hoping either the foster parent would walk out so she would warn them off.
Forty minutes passed, and still, there was no sign of them at all. What were they doing inside there? She was frustrated, so she went to the library opposite the hospital and entered the building. She then brought out her laptop and opened the terminal. Amy turned on her self-programmed VPN to encrypt her location and ward off intruders and ran some commands to capture all cellphone numbers from a fifty-meter radius.
About one hundred numbers were displayed on her screen. She kept the terminal open while she opened another window and ran another command. This time, she wanted to hack into the security cameras in the hospital.
After typing a series of commands, she waited for the result. Moments later, her screen filled with security camera feeds. She was a bit relieved, she then went ahead and searched for James' foster parent among the many people in the hospital.
Amy then spotted Martha sitting on a chair beside a hospital bed. On the bed was James' who was on drip medication, along with a bandage on his head. His face was not distinctive due to the poor quality of the camera's feed, so that was all she could see.
Why was James on the bed? What happened to James? Amy squinted her eyes confused because the last time she came here, he was very much alive, and now, he was lying in a bed, possibly dying.
Amy quickly searched for the numbers among the sea of numbers and located Martha's cellphone number. She quickly dialled it and stared at Martha on the screen.
Then her cellphone started ringing. Amy watched intently as Martha took out her cellphone from her bag and connected the line, much to her relief.
"Hello?" Martha asked, with a shaky voice. "Hello Mrs Hart, please I need to tell you something, it's a matter of life and death, hold on" Amy disconnected the line and ran a command on her laptop, successfully securing the call line between Martha and her cellphone signal. Martha was looking at a teenager with confusion, obviously asking what was going on.
Amy called her number again, which connected almost immediately. "Please who's this, and how did you get my number?" Martha asked apprehensively. Amy sighed and kept an eye on her screen. "First of all, what happened to James?" Amy asked.
"I asked you a question first. Who are you?" Martha asked warily. "My name is Amy Penn, and I'm from California, are you satisfied? Now my turn, what happened to James?"
"I will not answer your questions Amy, or whoever you are!" Martha replied stubbornly. Amy sighed and rubbed her forehead in stress "Martha Hart, I'm currently looking at you right now, so download this information while you are still alive.
"Your family is in grave danger. Some people are coming right now to take James away and probably kill him, so I came here to warn you. I'm not asking you to trust me at all, all I'm saying is that you protect James with your life because he's the only person that holds the fate of this world in his hands.
"I'm only doing this as a concerned neighbour, so whether you choose to comply with this information or dismiss it is up to you, but I am not going to sit and watch this boy get killed, not when the world I'm living in would be in danger if it ever happens."
Amy then stared at Martha on the screen and saw her looking around in shock. She was pacing around the room and telling Esther something, which prompted her to stand up immediately and call the doctor.
