The third day of the mission had ended. Amy was on the bed shivering in fear. She wasn't concerned about herself. She was concerned about her boyfriend, she was concerned about James, about his family, about her life.
Amy tried to presume who was spying on her, and how long the intruder had been doing it. Was it Henry, or her manager? Was it one of her coworkers at work? She was confused, but she placed her bet-on Henry.
That guy had been a creep to her for a while now, so she would not be surprised if he hacked into her gadgets to keep a close eye on Amy. Sometimes she wondered why the word 'no' would not enter that idiot's head.
But what about her manager? That icicle had always wanted to get his hand on that chip no matter what, even to the point of attempting to murder a kid, so there was a chance that he was spying on her too, perhaps the reason he even sent her was a front to take a closer look on James and his foster family.
Now, this makes sense.
Her manager would never appoint anybody like her to go on this crucial job, not when the omega chip is involved. Amy remembered one time when one of her coworkers said she was too good for their liking. So, she was sent here as a drone to check out James.
Amy was slightly angry at this realization. All the time she worked in AIRC she had tried her possible best to impress him, most of the time working overtime, and it almost affected her relationship with Matt just to make sure all the tasks given to her was done before the next day, but he did not see these sacrifices at all, frustrating her even more.
Amy felt betrayed. She swore in her heart that she would dig up all the company's dirty secrets and use them to shut it down, permanently. Once, she was hesitant to resign from this job, but looking at what was happening right now, a job as a freelancer seemed to be more of an attractive career.
Amy's smartphone beeped, indicating an SMS. Amy quickly grabbed it but made sure she 'mistakenly' placed her finger on the camera. Finally, Matt responded! She was worried about death because Matt was silent for almost two days, and it was getting on her nerve.
Unfortunately, the message was not from Matt, instead, it was from an unknown number. Amy was unpleasantly surprised. She opened the message which read:
"Mission is terminated, return to office first time tomorrow"
Amy was now officially terrified. They'd already knew what was happening. She was right all along, they were indeed spying on her, and possibly looking at her screen remotely. God, I've messed up big time, she thought furiously.
Amy did not know what to do. First Matt was silent, second her evil manager already know that the chip was with James, and third, they were going to kill him. She was torn between running to warn James and his foster family, or running back home and checking on Matt.
She hastily dialled Matt's phone again, but this time, it was returning voicemail "Hi caller, as you may see, I'm not available right now, so record your message after this uh—" then a beep followed after.
Amy was already worried. Something was wrong with Matt. He never leaves his phone at home or lets it run out of charge. He was always at home, so the only thing he uses his smartphone to do was to call and play light games.
Amy decided to fly back home. Matt was more important to her more than anything, so she decided not to waste any more time anymore. She immediately packed her clothes in her travel bag and left the hotel room, without cleaning herself up or applying makeup.
I cannot waste any more time, I cannot waste any more time, she repeated in her mind as she drove to the car rentals to return the minibus. When Mr Christopher saw the minibus coming, he was confused. Why was she coming back before the due date? Was she coming to complain about the car?
As Amy packed the minibus, Mr Christopher walked into the garage and walked to Amy, who was already rushing out of the vehicle. "Ms Amy, is there anything wrong with the car," he asked, but Amy zoomed past him and said "Nothing's wrong, it turned out that I didn't need the car for one week" she hastily said as she flagged the arriving cab.
10 minutes later, Amy reached the airport, but the plane going back to California had not arrived yet. She looked at the arrival time at the wall and saw the plane was not arriving until the next two and half hours. Damn it, she cursed.
Amy was impatient and apprehensive. She had not felt this emotion in a long time. What could have happened to Matt was not going to be good. She painfully hoped that she meets Matt in one piece, and no one hurt him at all.
What if they had done something to him? These thoughts made her want to cry. She wanted to go home so badly. She looked at her watch, it was 03:51 am.
Time trickled by painfully. She stood up, stand down, paced around deep in thoughts until she heard an announcement that her plane had landed.
Amy jumped up from her seat and took her travel bags and rushed to the checkout point. She handed her tickets with shaky hands, and right after she was cleared, she rushed into the plane.
The announcement was made to wear her seatbelt, but Amy was so deep in thought she did not hear it. All she was thinking about was going home and meeting Matt. She badly wanted to hug her boyfriend and stroked his hair, crying in his shoulders and kissing him furiously.
Throughout the five-hour flight, Amy didn't sleep a wink. Why would she, when the only thing that mattered to her might have been hurt, or worst-case scenario, dead? That thought made her shudder in fear, so she shook those thoughts free and stared out of the window with an absent mind.
