That very same night Monet was all dolled up and looking beautiful at the rehearsal dinner. She still felt nervous each time she was around her parents, but she somehow managed to push it back and focus on making sure that she acted as normal as possible at the rehearsal dinner. Thankfully for her, Jade was there with her parents at their assigned table, which was next to Monet's table. Monet was grateful for the fact that her best friend was there to support her, even though she wasn't in the wedding at all.
Yes you heard correctly. Jade was not in the wedding at all. Why? Because of the disapproval Monet's parents had towards her and her family. They didn't want Jade to attend the wedding at all because they felt like it would ruin the happy atmosphere. It was a weeklong battle for Monet to even convince them to let Jade attend and not be part of the bridal part, as much as it killed her to not have her best friend as her Maid of Honor. Thankfully, Jade was allowed a front row seat at the wedding far from Monet's parents and assigned a table near their table.
Back to the subject at hand, Monet felt more at ease with Jade being at the rehearsal dinner because her presence took a little bit of the edge off. Monet did not feel as nervous as she did before, which she was happy about. Earlier she was a complete nervous wreck on the verge of a panic attack, but now she was less nervous than she had been previously and acting as normal as possible.
The other thing that was taking her mind off of it was the fact that her and Trevor were walking around to each table to greet their other guests and talk to them one by one. It was a great distraction for Monet at the moment and it allowed her to not panic and to not show the disgust she felt on her face at Trevor touching her.
Speaking of Trevor, the bastard's hand kept getting lower and lower down her backside each time they walked around. She knew he was doing it on purpose to cop a feel and she was extremely disgusted. She wanted nothing more than to elbow the bastard in the balls, but her family was watching them closely because they didn't want her to mess up anything tonight. Oh how she so desperately wanted Jade to follow this fool to the bathroom and pistol whip him so hard that three of his front teeth fell out.
When they finished talking to everyone, they walked back towards their tables. Monet had completely skipped over Jade's because of her parents and Trevor's. So she decided to walk over there.
"Jade, I'm so glad you and your parents could make it," Monet grinned.
"I wouldn't miss it for anything in the world," Jade replied. Trevor greeted Jade's parents with a smile on his face. While greeting them, Jade's dad, Carter, had a hard look on his face as he talked to them. Monet could tell that Jade probably told her parents all about him because she could see the disdain clear as day on their faces, or Mr. Carter's face, and in their eyes as well.
"Monet, you look so beautiful," Jade's mother, Leia, smiled. The older woman pulled her into a warm and tight hug. Monet hugged her back with just as much emotion. If there was anyone in this world that Monet could count on, it was this woman right here. She appreciated Ms. Leia for always being there for her and for treating her like her own. Sometimes Ms. Leia would call Monet her daughter and treat her as such.
"I bet that tomorrow you're going to look extra gorgeous, especially in that extremely hideous dress," She said.
"Thank you, Ms. Leia," Monet smiled.
"Mom, she always looks gorgeous in anything she wears," Jade said.
"I agree one-hundred percent," Trevor spoke up. If you had been there, you should have witnessed the expression of irritation and contempt they held for him with just one like. They really hated Trevor with a passion and wanted him to go away. In their eyes, he was a pest. A huge pest that needed to be sprayed with Raid. It took everything in Monet not to laugh at how they were looking at him, but she managed to hold it back with a smile.
"We have to get back to our table, but I appreciate you all for coming. Thank you so much," Monet smiled.
"You're welcome, Monet. We wouldn't miss this for the world," Ms. Leia replied. Monet hugged them one last time before going back to her table with Trevor. When she sat back down in her seat, she felt her father burning a hole in the side of her head and her mother glaring at her with disapproval. She was going to hear an earful tonight about how she was disrupting the order.
Soon, Monet's mother stood up with a glass in her hand and tapped it lightly with a butter knife. The room quieter down and soon all eyes were on them.
"Thank you all for joining us this evening for this rehearsal dinner. We appreciate all of you showing up and showing your support for the union between my daughter and her soon-to-be husband," Monet's mother announced. Applause erupted from all around the room causing Monet's mother to smile as she basked in the attention. It soon died down.
"As a mother, I am very happy to see that my baby girl is getting married. It felt like just yesterday that I was holding her in my arms watching her sleep and now I'm watching her marry a man that makes her happy," Monet's mother beamed at her daughter and Trevor. The bride-to-be wanted nothing more than to scoff at that statement. This man beside her didn't make her happy at all and she wanted people to know that so badly. She wanted them to know how terrible of a person he was ever since the first meeting.
"Thank you, mother," Monet plastered on a fake grin.
"Thank you, Mother-in-law," Trevor replied.
"You're welcome," She smiled. Monet's father stood up to make a toast, but she checked in and out when he spoke. She just spoke up when it was time for her to and stayed silent at the appropriate moments. At the end, she thanked him with Trevor before someone else had the floor.
Once their families finished their speeches, the severs brought out their meals. Before people were able to even dig in, another tap on the glass turned their attention to the front of the room and this time it was on Jade.
"Hello. I'm sorry for interrupting your dinner for just a moment, but I wanted to stand up and say a couple of words about Monet, my best friend and sister," Jade explained. The bride-to-be felt gases burning in the side of her face and she knew that she was going to get an extra side of yelling tonight hen they got home.
"I won't be long so you all can continue eating, but I just wanted to say that I'm proud of Monet for being the first one out of the two of us to get married. I always had a feeling that Monet would be the first one to get married because she is such a beautiful, charming, and kind soul that causes many people to love, respect, and rally behind no matter what," Jade said, "Monet is the sun that lights up on this world and shines down on us every single day and without her I would be just some random chick on the street wondering about what it would feel like to have someone as amazing as her as my friend."
Monet felt herself becoming emotional hearing Jade's speech. She was so happy that she stood up and spoke. Her parents burning gazes were ignored as she listened intently to her best friend.
"Monet, you are the greatest friend I could ever ask for and I appreciate you for sticking by me during my most embarrassing and irritating moments as well as my more flattering moments. I love you as a sister and a best friend, Monet. You are the light within my world," Jade smiled. With her emotions running high, Monet stood up and hugged her best friend tightly. A chorus of "Aww's" filled the room at the two best friends hugging.
"Thank you, Jade," Monet snuffed.
"You're welcome and once we get you out of this mess, this speech is getting recycled," She whispered.
"You fucking suck, Jade," Monet mumbled. The two women pulled away from each other and sat back down at their tables.
"Such a beautiful and monumental speech," Trevor's mother smiled.
"Yes. Jade has always been one for grand gestures," Monet's mother forced a smile.
"She totally outdid mine," Trinity said.
"Of course Jade's speech outdid yours," Monet thought to herself. All Trinity did was talk mostly about herself as if anybody really wanted to hear that and made the end of the speech about her brother and Monet. This girl was a literal attention hog and this was the reason why Monet did not want her as the Maid of Honor. The girl was going to make it about herself and not the bride. Monet would have rather had Jade as the M.o.H, but her mother was against the idea altogether. The only thing that can be summed up about this entire ordeal is that this really isn't Monet's wedding at all. It's everyone else's wedding because they're all meddling in it and making this entire predicament about themselves.
She really was jealous of her sister for gaining the freedom she so wished she had because wanted nothing more than to experience what a wedding filled with love, joy, and pure happiness felt like instead of just disgust, irritation, and the feeling of running away at all costs.
Speaking of Tyra, she had called Monet earlier to tell her congrats, but the younger girl shut it down quick by telling her that she didn't want to get married to this man. Tyra expressed understanding and wanting her little sister to truly be happy without their parents constantly her life. She even explained to Monet that it was her decision and her decision alone on whether or not she wanted to go through with this wedding or not. Monet heeded her sister's words during and after the call once she thanked her for talking to her.
Monet wished her sister could be here to witness this wedding, but their parents were adamant on keeping her out of there lives. Out of sight and out of mind was their motto when it came to Tyra, which Monet hated with a passion. Her brother was no better and he was always insulting Tyra and her family every single chance he got as if their sister wasn't the one helping him with his homework when they were younger or fighting off his bullies.
"Since these two lovebirds will be getting married tomorrow, why don't we have Monet start packing her things tonight? That way she can easily move in," Trevor's mother suggested.
"That sounds like such a good idea. Don't you agree, Monet?" Her mother asked.
"Yes it does," Monet smiled.
"Great. Trevor will help you," His mother said.
"Actually, Mom, I'm going out with my boys tonight. We're having a bachelor party," Trevor spoke up.
"Really? You didn't tell me anything about this," His mother said.
"I'm sorry, but it was last minute and Tyler and the guys wanted to do it tonight," Trevor apologized.
"Yeah fucking right," Monet thought to herself.
"Okay, son. Well I guess we'll have to do it when you get back from your honeymoon," His mother said.
"Actually, I can do it by myself for tonight. There's no time like the present," Monet responded, "Besides we'll both be too tired from our honeymoon to want do anything, except relax at home with each other."
"That is true, but you still might need some help," Trevor's mother said.
"It's no problem, Mrs. Adams. I'll be fine," Monet assured her. The bride-to-be did not want that man touching her stuff at all. In fact, once this was over she was going to keep her clothes in the guest room and as far away from his stuff as possible.
"Alright. If you say so, but contact me as soon as possible if you need some assistance," The woman nodded.
"I will," Monet smiled.
At the end of the night, Monet went home with her parents. She texted Jade letting her know that she needed help with packing. Jade texted her back letting her know that she would be there to help after she changed clothes. As for Monet's parents, they said nothing to her and went straight to bed along with her brother.
Once Jade got there, they got to work on packing her things up.
"Monet, why don't we move your things to my place?" Jade suggested quietly, "That way when the cat's out of the bag, then we don't have to worry about coming back here."
Money had almost forgotten about her marriage to Adrián for a moment. The rehearsal dinner had completely taken her mind off of it for a moment, but Monet agreed to the idea. It was better to pack her things up and send them to Jade's rather than Trevor's.
"Alright," Monet nodded. The two women got to work with the packing for the entire night. They took things out of the room like clockwork and filled up both of their cars with her stuff. They made sure everything was out of there, except the bed and the sheets. Monet decided it was best to leave it there. After they finished, they drove over to Jade's place and out everything in the second bedroom.
Once they were finished, Monet thanked her best friend before heading back home to go to sleep. She was very anxious about tomorrow and what it would bring. She hoped that things wouldn't go wrong.
