Chapter 37 - Muscle Memory Awakening (Part 1)

Sasori finished the water in the bottle that Jacob gave him as Professor O'Brien walked over to him. He had felt a shiver run down spine a few seconds ago and his instincts said it was coming from Sasori's direction, so he was coming across to check that everything was alright. "How are you doing young man?" The professor said as he looked past the boys to find what was worrying him. When he realised that there was nothing there he focused his attention on Sasori.

"I am okay sir, I started to see things for what every reason, but I think I was just hallucinating." The professor nodded at his words and then placed his hands against either side of Sasori's face to check him with a simple spell that he had used so many times that he no longer needed to chant anything. The spell he used was the Tier 3 spell, 'Hans'. It is the most basic of scanning spells that is taught to those aspiring to be healers.

Professor O'Brien was no healer but had learnt the basics as a teacher so he could at least do something to help instead of standing idly doing nothing to help. He had been in a situation before where he couldn't do anything and had made sure it wouldn't happen again. Once his spell came back negative for any illness or damage to Sasori's body he sighed in relief. All it showed was he was in fact a little dehydrated.

"You are alright young man, I just did a check with a spell and what I found was you were just dehydrated. Here have some more water and then you can come back and rejoin the group. We are about to finish but I want to see where you sit in this group of students." The professor handed another bottle of water to Sasori while taking back the empty one so there was no evidence of a bottle there. "Uh, Jacob is it?" Jacob nodded.

"Can you just spar with him as most of the students are tired and it would be somewhat unfair. Just hold back okay." Jacob nodded. Sasori had a few sips of water and then handed the bottle back to the professor. Professor O'Brien took the bottle and ran back quickly to stop a fight before it became ugly. The two boys walked to an empty ring and went to opposite sides.

"You ready Sasori. I don't want to hurt you, so I'll hold back to keep this fair and a calm match." Jacob was jumping up and down, flinging his legs and arms around to loosen his muscles and prepare for the fight. He rolled his neck from left to right, and as he did this loud clicks and cracks could be heard.

Sasori smiled and stretched his arms as well but didn't roll his neck like Jacob as he thought it would hurt him because of the sounds he heard coming from Jacob. "I'm ready when you are and thanks for going a little easy on me but don't go to easy on me. I want this to be a fight I have to work hard in." Jacob smiled while walking towards the centre of the ring with his arm stretched out. Sasori walked over and then fist bumped Jacob to begin the fight.

The two of them hopped back a metre to get some distance from their opponent and observe them to see how they moved and to spot any blind spots or weaknesses they could exploit. Despite Jacob's size he kept his arms close to his body while always shifting his feet making it hard for even an experienced fighter or martial artist to find a blind spot.

Sasori on the other hand had a sloppy stance but even with it Jacob couldn't seem to find a way to attack him without being in danger of a counterattack. His instincts were telling him not to attack as it was dangerous, but he couldn't understand why, but he didn't doubt his instincts and stayed in position. 'Is this guy really a bigger fighter, and what the hell is this aura coming from him? I can't attack because I feel this pressure being forced on me by him.'

Sasori didn't realise that he was doing such a thing and just decided to attack his opponent. He charged at Jacob while pulling his right arm back to build up the force behind his fist. Jacob was able to easily read Sasori's moves and adapted accordingly. He stepped back and to the side to give himself some space to work in. He moved his left hand down onto Sasori's hand to shift it towards the ground. He lifted his left knee up to meet Sasori's mid section and wind him but something unexpected happened.

When Sasori charged forward he expected Jacob to meet him in the middle and they would face off but that didn't happen. When Jacob stepped back Sasori panicked and started thinking rapidly, 'Ah what must I do now? I could try and turn my body but that would make an opening for him. What am I supposed to? Why didn't I try and learn this stuff when I was a kid, and the worst thing is he is holding back and not taking me on seriously.'

When Jacob moved Sasori's hand down his brain seemed to switch off and all his thoughts went quiet and disappeared along with his worries. Professor O'Brien was about to step in and stopped Sasori from being kneed in the stomach, but he did something that neither Jacob, Professor O'Brien nor any of the students watching while they rested, expected.

He kicked off the ground with his left foot and rotated his body while pushing himself off Jacob's knee with his left hand. He launched over the stunned Jacob landing on his side and rolled to the edge of the ring. Jacob started to turn around slowly with his mouth agape. He couldn't believe what had just happened. Sasori quickly got back up to his feet and was now standing in a stance that neither Jacob nor Professor O'Brien had seen before.

Sasori's eyes were hidden behind his fringe that now shielded them from sight, but Jacob could tell that there was something wrong with them. Most of the students had walked to see what everyone was so shocked about. Even Nobuhle walked over after seeing Sasori's manoeuvre. 'How could he do such a thing. Even with a few years of experience, he would have to have to know what was going to happen and would need serious training to have such agility. Who is this guy?' Professor O'Brien thought to himself.
