Chapter 7 - Syrus

My eyes slowly opened and I was met with the smile of a man and a young boy just slightly younger than me, it didn't take long for me to identify the first one, his blue hair stuck out like a sore thumb.

"Cirrus" I muttered to myself grabbing ahold of my head in response to the headache I'd gotten.

"Nice to see you're awake" the 'self' pro-.

"stop calling me a self-proclaimed dragon! I'm the real deal!" The man said a vein pulsated around his temple as his anger rose. "sure sure"

"who's the kid?" I asked before he could pester me any further, both our eyes turned towards the white-haired boy and Cirrus could only sigh as he walked over to me lightly tapping my head before walking back towards the kid that was situated just on the other side of the fireplace.

"where are we?" I inquired, struggling to my feet my eyes darted from one corner of the dimly lit room to the other, examining every little thing about it, perhaps it was-

"there's no clues we're just in a cave right now" the 'self'-

"stop calling me the self-proclaimed dragon" he yelled in an outburst of frustration.

"then get the fuck out of my head!" I countered angrily.

"you two should stop fighting" the little boy interjected his blue eyes assessing the boy of us. "he started it!"

I hollered at him my fingers pointed at the 'self' proclaimed dragon in an accusatory manner. "for fucks sake..."

The dragon murmured a mischievous smile appeared on his face as he looked over towards the white-haired boy no older than 5 for validation.

Then it suddenly hit me...

The burning smell was it coming from me?

My ass was completely on fire!

After the whole ordeal had passed I looked towards Cirrus awaiting an explanation, the dragons blue hair was longer than previously and his right arm unlike before was gone, his white-haired companion didn't look to be in any better shape, his clothing was tattered and his hair was a complete mess.

"your family was attacked by Knights of the Holy Church most likely one from the city of Winston," the blue-haired dragon said solemnly his blue eyes filled with worry as he took a deep breath before his eyes met mine again.

"I need you to take Syrus and run" Cirrus ordered, his voice held a tone showing that there'd be no room for arguments which caused his companion who had prepared to speak up to retract whatever statement he had planned in adding.

"Syrus, is that the boy's name?" I questioned and Cirrus nodded confirming my speculation.

"never thought you'd be the type to have a kid" I bluntly stated expecting to at least elicit some form of annoyance from him but his face remained indifferent despite my words.

"he's a dragon too" Cirrus began the young boy's eyes met mine. "as it turns out it won't be long till the others find me... And end my life"

I shot a glance at the self-proclaimed - no real dragon his eyes held an unusual amount of calmness and the regal like pressure that he held before had disappeared.

He looked to me expectantly as he held his hands out signalling for me to come to him.

"Come here..." Cirrus said with his handheld towards me as the wind around us began to pick up. "what are you doing?"

My question only caused a slight smile from the older dragon. "I need you to take Syrus with you, don't tell anyone your name Emrys... I've altered your hair and eye colour to match Syrus's"

My facial expression only became more and more perplexed with each bit of information I received. "why? what's going on that's costing you your life!?" I questioned angrily, though the dragon didn't seem to be angered by my outburst.

"helping you Emrys... The elder dragons have found out I came in contact with you and they want my head" the man said his hands grabbing ahold of my forehead, mana surged through me, lots of it, I felt my mana change shape, size and even condense to a much greater extent than previously.

"that insignia on the palm of your hand should be covered up" the dragon stated calmly grabbing wraps of clothing tightly wrapping them around the palm of my hand till the only thing that could be seen was my wrists and the outline of my fingernails within the white bandage-like wraps.

What the fuck is going on!?

"wait elder dragons! Are you an elder dragon!" my eyes could only widen as I fit together the puzzle pieces within my mind.

Lord of the skies.

Elder dragons are rarely ever spotted and only one is seen every few centuries. "no you got things wrong... I'm a greater dragon, I was to become the next elder dragon within the next thousand years" the man could only sigh in embarrassment at my feeble attempt at figuring things out on my own.

"but he helped you, 'honoured one'" Syrus added his calm blue eyes were unsettling considering his childlike body. "during the Arthurian times, the supreme Magus, best friend to king Arthur mysteriously passed away"

"the current elder dragons co-existed with all the other races thanks to Merlin's assistance... But one day the dragon God passed away alongside Merlin, his blood painted the walls on what should've been great news" Syrus looked to me, then towards Cirrus who sighed as he took over.

"your birth, Emrys... A boy who'd tear the world apart, one that went beyond the law and orders giving to this world, one born once every thousand years" he looked to me and rather than hatred their lied a spark of hope within his eyes as he pointed his fingers towards me.

"your birth in itself was blasphemy towards the Holy Church, towards the dragons and towards the world itself" Cirrus's face held clear actual emotion his hatred being dominant among his usual calm ethereal features.

"But wait a second you still haven't explained what this has to do with me!" Syrus yelled out in frustration his mana surged at his sudden outburst and Cirrus didn't react even a bit at this.

"it's not yet time for--"

"that's not what you said! You promised you'd explain Dad!" the boys eyes laced with tears as he received a kind gentle pat upon his soft silky white hair.

"I promise everything's gonna make sense soon" Cirrus murmured softly, I, myself wasn't in quite the best shape. I still had to find my parents and this new surge of info wasn't exactly making the pressure I was feeling any better.

"so, what exactly does my being born have to do with the Merlin or the dragon god... I can somewhat understand why I'm feared but I'd never 'tear' the world apart" I countered, he could only sigh at my lack of understanding.

"I doubt it's something you'd understand even if I told you... It's better if you found out for yourself. Marcus" he said in an almost teasing manner.

"wait a sec-" I was cut off by the greater dragon who perked up as though someone had been watching him.

"They've found me a lot quicker than I thought," he said with a weak smile. His head and attention turned to the young dragon boy that had been travelling with him.

"I need you to get the Emrys to Travostacia!" the greater dragon suddenly said but before his companion could question why he disappeared in a blur and within seconds following, a collection of detonations within the air occurred, shaking the cave that we currently stayed within it.

Syrus clenched his jaw strengthening his resolve as the wind and mana within the air began to surge violently.

"let's move," he said quickly throwing to me a winter jacket, it was of a light brown colour with what resembled a wolf's fur around the hood.

We rushed out of the cave my face unprepared for the piercing cold wintry snow. There was no way in hell we were going to be able to navigate through this blizzard especially when we were in such tiny bodies.

"Syrus!" I yelled calling out to the boy, the white-haired boy turned back to me, we were already waist-deep in the snow and it wouldn't be long before we were buried alive.

The boy examined me for a moment before letting out a gasp of realisation he placed his hand upon me a blueish aura surrounded me, most likely Syrus's mana and unlike his father's it wasn't as warm or soothing, rather it was filled with uncertainty and... Fear.

"how old are you Syrus?" I asked the boy trudged forwards through the snow momentarily ignoring my question, or perhaps thinking of an answer before he responded.

"Why does it matter, we'll die if we stay here ." Syrus countered and as though on cue another loud explosion went off causing the wind to pick up to even greater speeds.

"damn it!"
