Chapter 3 - Chapter III

"Kurmara," A voice whispered to her but she didn't move. There was a sudden push on her but she just groaned. Suddenly her blanket was removed and there was an immediate coldness over her which caused her to jolt awake. She swiftly sat up in her bed and looked to her left to see her brother using his Quirk, smiling at her. "Finally, I thought you'd never wake up." She glared at him through tired eyes before trying to snatch her blanket back, only for him to move away with it. "Give it back." Her voice was still sleepy but her brother didn't care. "No, you need to get up." "What for? It's the weekend, we already went shopping for the month and I don't have any tests for another two weeks." She voiced, rubbing sleep from her eyes. "I'm not worried about any of that stuff. Besides, I already know that you ace all the tests." He responded, waving his free hand and she raised a brow. "Then what's the problem? Can't I sleep for a few more minutes if it's not urgent?" She questioned, laying back down, putting one of her pillows over her head only for her brother to use his Quirk again to blow the pillow off her.

"When are the entrance exams for UA?" He asked and she stretched before answering. "In about ten months from now. Why?" "Because starting today, and for the rest of the school year, I am going to help you train." He voiced, making Kurmara sit up again and look at him wide-eyed. "Really?" "Yes." "Like, really really?" She was now standing up and bouncing like a kid which made him chuckle. "Yes, really really. It seems like you forgot that I said I would help you. Not just your combat, but also with your Quirks and your emotions." He said tossing her blanket onto the bed and she had the biggest grin on her face. "Awesome! But wait, why my emotions? I can handle them pretty well." She stated and he let out a sigh. "I know, but I'm talking more about the stronger emotions. Like depression, sorrow, anger. All of those sorts." He responded and she gave a nod. "Alright, let me get dressed." He waved a hand as he left her room, closing the door behind him, and as soon as he was away from the door, she gave an excited squeal, jumping up and down before finally sitting down to catch her breath.

Kurmara had the biggest grin on her face as she thought about her brother training her. "It will be different from when we were kids. It will be better." She voiced to herself as she stood up again and got dressed. She walked out of her room to meet her brother who was already by the door waiting for her. "Here," he shot something at her and it hit her head, falling to the ground when she didn't catch it. "You could've handed it to me.." She muttered, bending to pick up the hair tie. "Don't have time, hurry up and tie your hair back." He said as he walked out the front door, causing Kurmara to quickly wrap her hair back and put her shoes on before running out to follow her brother who was already in the car. She opened the passenger side, her brother not giving her any time to buckle up. "Woah, what the hell?" She queried as he drove away from the house. "Sorry, but you move slower than a snail." He chuckled and she let out a sigh. "It's only five-forty, why did you wake me up so early? And where are we going?" She quizzed but he just shook his head.

"You'll see. Just be patient. Also, don't fall asleep for the drive." That was all he said and she rolled her eyes before staring out the window as he drove them to wherever it was he was taking her. She closed her eyes, excitement still hidden in her thoughts.

"Kurmara. Hey, wake up." She opened her eyes and lifted her head, seeing her brother outside on her side of the car. "I thought I told you not to fall asleep?" He chuckled and she just rolled her eyes, yawning as she got out of the car. "I didn't think I would. Where are we anyway?" She questioned as she looked around them. It was a wooded park area and he began to walk down the path, her jogging behind him as they walked through it. "I've never seen this place before." She voiced as she looked above them at the trees. "Everyone comes here, just not this early. Well, besides some joggers but that's it." He told her and she nodded. "Ah, alright. I've never been here before though, so," "You have. You were like, three." She looked at the back of his head when he said that. "What? Then why doesn't this place seem familiar?" She questioned. "You were three." He chuckled, but it still didn't answer her question. "Whatever. Where are we going though?" "To an area where we won't be bothered." He responded and she huffed.

They continued walking for another few minutes until they came to a little clearing that had some flowers surrounding the outer parts. "Hm, now it feels a little familiar.." Kurmara voiced, taking a longer look at their surroundings. "Good. Now, I want to teach you how to make yourself airborne." He said and she looked at him with a confused look. "What do you mean?" She asked. "This." He suddenly moved his hands at his side and was above her in the air. She looked up, amazed and stunned. He dropped near her perfectly and ran a hand through his hair. "That's what I'm going to teach you. It's pretty simple, except for the landing." "The landing is hard? Just trying to do that looks hard." She spoke and he smiled at her. "Both are hard, especially for someone like you who hasn't used her Quirks in years." He tapped her forehead and let out a sigh. "I'm not going to lie, you will get hurt a few times until you finally get it, I know I have when Dad taught me." "Dad.. taught you that?" She echoed and he nodded.

"Yeah. It was hard as hell and Mom didn't like that I had gotten scrapes and bruises from it, but I wanted to keep going." "Why? You always got hurt doing it. That's pretty dumb of you." She laughed and he shrugged. "It might've been dumb, but at least I can do it now." Kurmara nodded and was about to ask another question, but he lifted his hand as if to stop her. "You can ask questions later, for now, I want you to try and do that. You need to get it completely right." He told her and she nodded but still had to ask one more thing. "Why do I have to get it right? How will this be good for me?" "Well, being able to do that can be used for two reasons. One of them is to get away easily if you're in a too-tight spot while the other is for if someone needs help." Her eyes sparkled when he said that. "Then what the hell are we waiting for? Show me how to do it again!" He stared at her for a few seconds before giving a laugh. "Alright, but a fair warning, I won't be as nice as I always am." "That's fine. Just show me."

He shook his head and stood a few steps away from her. "Alright, now watch closely to what I do so that way you can get a sense of how to do it, alright?" She nodded vigorously, keeping her eyes on him as he did it again. She took mental notes as he landed before attempting to do it herself. "Alright, make sure to stay relaxed. And if that doesn't work, try to focus your emotions into it." "Got it." Kurmara moved her arms at her side and focused, trying to use her Quirk. She took a deep breath, trying to get something to happen but after a few minutes, she gave a sigh and looked at her brother. "I don't think it's going to work." She said and he contemplated a bit before snapping. "It's because you might've locked them away after receiving the negative attitudes from your classmates." He voiced which made her tilt her head, staring at him with confusion. "Okay, so think of it like this; you always had them unlocked when we were kids, right?" She nodded. "But once you interacted with others they treated you differently because of them, so- I want you to close your eyes real quick." He interrupted himself which made her groan.

"Seriously?" "Yes, just do it for a second because I want you to try and visualize something." She gave a long sigh before closing her eyes. "Alright, they're closed." "Good. Now, I want you to think of something, okay? Now whatever that is, think about it being locked with like, chains or something." He told her and she thought of a chest that had chains and locks all around it. "I see it." "Okay, now imagine trying to get those locks off to get whatever is inside. Inside being both of your Quirks." She furrowed her brows, not opening her eyes as she thought about trying to unlock the many locks. "I.. don't think I can.." She said, about to open her eyes, but she felt her brother's hands cover them. "That's okay, just keep trying until you do. But don't open your eyes yet." She gave a huff and tried again. Even in her mind, it was difficult to get even one of them off until finally, she did which made her gasp. "Wait- what- I think I did it!" She exclaimed, removing her brother's hands from over her eyes.

"Okay, then try again." He stepped back again and she nodded as she took a deep breath, moving her arms next to her and focused trying to use her Quirk again. She closed her eyes and breathed out until she was suddenly in the air, a bit higher than her brother had gone which surprised her. She didn't know how she was going to land, however, and fell until she was caught by her brother in mid-air. "Went a bit high there for a second." He smiled, making her groan. "I didn't think I'd go that high." "That's alright. I think that's another thing you need to think about before you go up into the air." He voiced as he set her down once he landed. "I have to think about how high I want to go?" She asked incredulously which made him nod. "Yes. That way you don't hurt yourself once you land, you know?" "Alright. Let me try that again, this time I don't want you to catch me." "Even if you go too high like that again?" He queried, raising a brow and she thought for a second. "Actually, only do it if I go that high again." She spoke and he laughed.

"Alright. Now do it again."

Kurmara fell to the ground with a groan, weakly sitting up. "Dammit.." She stood up and stumbled backwards a little before shaking her head. "Okay, okay, you got this." She said to herself and used her Quirk to get herself into the air, trying to figure out how to land only to fall again with another groan. "Shit." "Again." Her brother voiced to her which caused a sigh to escape from her lips. "I've been doing the same thing over and over, how many more times do I have to do it?" She complained, sitting back and he walked over to her, bending down before giving her a long look and flicking her forehead. "Ow-" "You're going to do it until you get it right. Now, do it again." Kurmara let out a long sigh as she did what her brother showed and told her. He was teaching her, very harshly, how to use her wind Quirk that allowed her to be airborne before starting on the other so she could get the hang of it. But it was hell because he acted like a rude teacher when she didn't get it right. Not even almost right was enough for him and it pissed her off.

"I don't want to do this. Can't we do it later? Or tomorrow?" She asked out of breath. Her body was sore from all the times she had fallen but he only rolled his eyes. "No. You need to understand how to use your Quirks. You haven't used them since you were six. It's been eight years and if you get into UA, you need to know how to use them otherwise you'll be singled out." He voiced which caused her to sigh. He was right, however, she hadn't used her Quirks since she was a child all because of the bullying she had been receiving because they were normal and she looked different. Those thoughts were beginning to make her blood boil with anger. She stood up and did the trick her brother showed her, anger still building up as she did it, and to her surprise, she managed to get it right, but better than her brother had suspected. She looked down from her new position and he gave her a thumbs up. "There we go, you finally got it! Now try to land." He praised which made her smile, the anger fading. She breathed out and focused, carefully dropping to the ground, and walked over to him with a smile on her face.

"I.. I did it! I landed without hurting myself!" She exclaimed, jumping a little before wincing and standing still. "That's great. You just need to practice that a few times then we'll work on doing the same for your water, alright?" He turned his back to her and walked towards the car, Kurmara following. "So, I'm done for today?" She questioned and he nodded. "Yeah. We can do this tomorrow, but you still need to practice, alright? Once you can use both again, then you won't have a hard time at UA." He put a hand on her head before getting in the car. She felt happiness welling inside of her after her brother praised her for finally getting the trick right. She looked down at her hands with a smile on her face as well as feeling determined. 𝐼 𝑀𝑖𝑙𝑙 𝑒𝑠𝑒 π‘šπ‘¦ π‘„π‘’π‘–π‘Ÿπ‘˜π‘  π‘π‘Ÿπ‘œπ‘π‘’π‘Ÿπ‘™π‘¦.
