"Miss Lizeth, you need to bring the cleaning materials back to the housekeeping area," Mario instructed.
"Then, proceed to my table after," said the woman who was with Mario. Lizeth wondered why the sudden change. However, she didn't ask. It was her first day at work, and she avoided giving them a wrong impression on her.
She wanted to show everybody that she was easy to work with. Not only did she want to blossom in the eyes of her superior, but she was afraid to lose her job. She knew it probably was the only opportunity to be offered to her, and she also knew how much her family badly needed the income she could learn from this.
Besides, after she knew that the company was all about clothes, she had been dreaming of being part of it. Lizeth's childhood dream was to be a great fashion designer. Working in a clothing company was a good start for that.
She felt blessed enough to have that opportunity as early as that moment. The bad situation may have brought her that opportunity, and it probably was a blessing in disguise. However, it was a blessing still the same.
Maybe working in that company would also be her chance to study college. Although she still had to consider that as the second priority, for as of the moment, she needed her family to survive. They were her first priority.
After Lizeth brought back the cleaning equipment to its place, she walked in the midst of the production area as she saw the woman's table on the far end of the vast room. They filled the entire area with sewing machines and busy workers at every table.
Lizeth was amazed. This place was the exact place where she pictured herself in the future. However, in her dream wasn't exactly one of the workers. Instead, she dreamt of having this kind of business herself.
Fashion was her fashion, and being a designer was her ultimate dream. Lizeth smiled in amazement. She felt like she was walking herself to success.
She pictured herself in a nice business suit as she walked in the aisle of the production area, and people, her subordinates, were giving greetings to her side by side. She nodded in response, and her smile was the motivation for every worker she would meet.
She would be the most friendly, outgoing, and inspiring boss.
"Hey! Watch out!"
Lizeth suddenly snapped out of her imagination when she heard a lady exclaim. She was glaring at Lizeth, and that was the only moment Lizeth noticed the scattered pieces of garments spread out on the floor.
"What are you staring at? Aren't you aware you just bumped me and caused this?" the girl was giving her a displeasing look.
"Oh, I'm so sorry, mam." Lizeth abruptly picked up the scattered clothes. She looked around and noticed other workers glanced at her.
She knew that by that moment, her face was all covered in red, especially when she overheard people say, "It's Luis' daughter. She knew nothing about this work. Yet, they still hired her in an instant. She hadn't even gone through the test and interview."
"Yeah, I bet, if she had to take the test. She would fail." Then, both girls chuckled while looking at her with a mock.
Lizeth took a deep breath and tried not to think about what they were talking about.
"What happened to her?" The woman whom she was supposed to see approached them.
"Mam, it was my fault. I accidentally bumped at her.." Lizeth tried to explain, but the woman cut her off.
"Oh my, did you even know how much this effort the cutter had put on this at work? You must be very careful all the time. You aren't walking on the city streets. You are in a production area. It would help if you always were vigilant and watchful. Everything here is worth something you can hardly pay until you retire."
Lizeth wanted to speak and reason out. However, she should not have to.
She thought back to her mantra for that day, to give people an excellent impression of her. Even, she knew that it probably was too late after that bumping, the day hadn't ended anyway.
She was optimistic that she could still turn the situation around.
Lizeth followed the woman who looked like the production supervisor and led her to one of the tables at the hind part of the production. Not long after, a girl whom she bumped a few moments ago approached them.
"Miss Head, you called me?" she asked.
"Yes, you will be the one who will train her. Teach her how to use the machine, cut, sew, and everything," the supervisor instructed.
"Seriously, Miss Head? You want me to train her? How would I do that? I heard she hadn't even tried to use the sewing machine. Besides, she never studied about this. Most of our newcomers had studied sewing or were already good or at least knew how to use these machines. She shouldn't be assigned here," the lady whined as she rolled her eyes at Lizeth and shook her head.
"It wasn't my idea. It was Mrs. Callen's. Now, if you don't want to do it, you can complain at Mrs. Callen's office."
Lizeth didn't react to anything, even how much she wanted to. She tried to tell the lady by her face that if she only had a choice, she wouldn't be asking for some mean trainer like her.
At the same time, Lizeth was also surprised by what she had just learned. She would be trained as a sewer. It was the best opportunity for her. Lizeth dreamed of learning to use the sewing machine and create her own line of dresses and fashion.
A thought also came to her. She just realized that the lady she met a while ago was actually her boss. She was Mrs. Callen's, and she was the one who had decided to put Lizeth on the production.
Lizeth smiled happily upon thinking that she had probably made a good impression to the lady boss, 'coz if not why would she command them to assign her in the production from being a cleaner?
Lizeth felt like she was being promoted instantly in her first day of work.
