Nadia put her bag in the backseat of her mum's car and sat beside her at the front.
"Long time no see Miss Karen. How are you?"
"I'm good baby. I just missed you and look you are now so big."
"Yeah mom, big on the outside but not very inside."
Karen drove away from the port. It was still early morning hours and just a few people were seen as they drove past trees and buildings.
"You wanna talk about your job?"
Miss Karen asked glancing at her daughter.
"Not really. That job sucked but I managed because the salary was good. Better than my employers. As days went by, it was getting harder and harder.
I can't believe they made me do other jobs like babysitting those demons"
Her mom chuckled.
"I'm serious mom, I've never come across kids like them before. It made me have second thoughts about having kids of my own."
"Don't worry, your babies are going to be lovely just like you and me"
Nadia only smiled at her mom's compliment though she didn't quite believe it.
Nadia was very famous for her temper but lately, though she found her boss'live in kids arrogant, there was no time to lose her head.
So, she kept it straight.
She remembered her high school days.
Keziah had come to class unexpectedly sad and quiet. Nadia's investigative part had sprung to action and within thirty minutes, she had found the reason for Keziah's unhappiness.
Without thinking, which she normally doesn't do in such situations, she switched herself to attack mode and attacked her other friend who caused Kezi's sadness.
She should have spared Solace some solace but that had brought their friendship to an end.
She didn't care.
That girl wasn't even trustworthy.
Nadia always said that 'Lady Justice' had won and had shrugged it off.
Thinking back on those times made her wonder if her children will oneday take after her or her super loving mom who would do anything for anyone even if she was at the losing end.
Her thoughts were interfered by her mom.
"Gift, do you want to find a job here?"
Oh no that was the last thing she wanted
"No. I'll go back soon after a few weeks. I just need to get my head straight on and make these big dark circles disappear."
She circled her eyes with her index finger. Her mom seemed to have just noticed and dropped her mouth open.
"Oh my goodness, those are really big dark circles."
"Then you probably understand how much I've worked."
They both burst into laughter. Nadia secretly thanked God in heaven that her mom wasn't pushing any further.
It was always hard to refuse her. Most definitely, this topic will resurface.
She had to work her brain out, so she can resist.
They finally arrived. She stepped out of the car and inhaled. Her stomach rumbled at the aroma coming from the house.
She missed her mom's cooking but this aroma was definitely not her mom's. This was her grandma's.
She rushed into the house leaving her mom to bring her bags.
"Her appetite for food is amazing. At least thats a relief. She has her appetite.
Karen chuckled.
Nadia entered the house and threw her hands around her grandma in a hug and gave her a quick peck on her cheeks.
Her grandma had a burly figure and she felt small hugging her because of her petite stature.
She walked into the kitchen and returned with her granny's jollof with some chicken and gizzard garnishings.
This was considered the favourite for most Ghanaian residents and she had grown to love it.
She shoved some into her mouth and smiled. A good contine tal dish jollof was.
"Aw granny, I miss this so much"
"I know. That is why you have the whole pot at your disposal."
"I love you."
Her mom entered and smiled.
"It still amazes me you still have a big appetite with the way your face looks."
Losing appetite is for those who don't have a granny like mine and a momma like you"
Nadia said with her mouth full.
They chortled.
"Your momma will leave your bags in your room. Wash up when you are done and get some rest. You know where to find your momma if you need me. "
"Okay Karen"
Before Karen left, she looked at her mom and made a comment that made Nadia freeze.
Nadia looked at herself and back at her mom. Her grandma laughed and her mom smiled.
This outta be the worst thing she has heard her mom say.
