Chereads / Don't Breathe / Chapter 4 - Chapter 4

Chapter 4 - Chapter 4

Y/N let the two have their little moment as Karen was still looking at his brother taking it all in that he was still alive. She didn't understand what was going on or why everyone was freaking out and killing one another but there wasn't much time to waste. Y/N being the only one with a clear head, made her way out of the classroom.

"Wait where are you going?" Karen asked which grabbed Kenny and Delilah's attention.

"We need to get somewhere safe. The gym is baracaded shut and is probably the safest place to be in right now. Apparently this is an airborne virus of some sort and we just can't breath this shit in."

Kenny immediately spoke up as something wasn't adding up. "If it's something that we're breathing in coming from outside then how come Karen wasn't affected?"

"....I don't know. That's a question that we will soon find out." Y/N said.

Karen remained quiet as she was still confused herself as to why she wasn't affected. She was starting to worry it was only the matter of time that she might become one of those crazies too. This thought frightened her to her bone. The near thought of her becoming one of them made her act out on one thing she had to do before she did lose her mind and go crazy. "Kenny, can we talk alone for a minute?"

He looked over at his younger sister feeling a bit off as he nodded. Delilah and Y/N left the room while searching for a safe way out that wasn't overrun by crazies.

"Are you okay?" Kenny asked while walking up to his sister.

When she shook her head 'no', he was starting to grow worried as if things weren't going to be okay for the two. There was something she knew that he didn't. The only thing he could think was the worst when she started tearing up. "Karen, what's going on?"

"Kenny, what if I become one of them?" She softly spoke while wiping her face with her hands.

Kenny wanted to get that horrible thought out of his head as he shot it down immediately. "Hey, look at me." He said while grabbing both her hands and looking down at her. She sniveled while looking up at the older brother. "I don't know how your not one of them right now but all I know is as long as your by my side, you will be okay. I won't let anyone hurt you. You got that?"

She nodded while wiping the rest of her tears with her arm.

"Kenny.. what about Kevin, what about mom and dad? What if they are one of them too?"

It was at that moment a massive weight smashed his chest when he remembered something very important.

"Kenny can you come here for a moment." Carol hollered from the kitchen.

As Kenny walked in the kitchen he felt nervous when both his parents were sitting at the dinner table as if they caught him in a dirty lie.

"What's going on?" He asked while pulling up a chair.

"Kenny... Your mom and I have been talking and we thought since your now in high school, you should know something." Stuart said while taking a sip of his beer in his hand.

"Okay?" Kenny said while looking at his mom. "Did I do something wrong? You know if this is about those XXX magazines in the bathroom, those are definitely Kevin's."

"No Kenny.. this is something much more serious, we just didn't know when to tell you." Carol said. She then looked over at her husband as if he could spill the beans for her.

"Son, for the past couple of years, you have been dying and coming back to life. There is something more to it. You see your mom and I went to a Cthulhu cult when you were conceived and ..."

Stuart was interrupted by Kenny. "YOU KNEW THIS WHOLE TIME THAT I DIED AND YOU ACTED LIKE IT WAS NO BIG DEAL?! EVERYONE MADE IT SEEM LIKE THEY DIDN'T REMEMBER? WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL ME SOONER?!" He yelled unable to hide his anger.

"Kenny.. we didn't have the heart to tell you that every time you die your mom would give birth to you again and again.. that's how you would wake up the next morning as if nothing ever happened. You have no idea how much pain in agony your mother is gone through every time she has to push you out of her."

"You have no idea what if feels like to die every fucking day!!"

"Kenny!"

"No you have no right to Kenny me! You lied to me for so many years saying I was crazy for saying I can't die. You made me feel like a freak when I needed SOMEONE to believe just once that I ACTUALLY suffer everyday. WHY ARE YOU TELLING ME NOW?!"

Stuart sighed out loud while taking a longer sip of his beer and handing it to Kenny. Kenny was shocked his dad was offering him a beer. But the shock went to disbelief when he said, "Your mom has cancer."

Kenny stared at his dad for a good five seconds before looking over at his mom. "What?"

He saw her with tears falling from her eyes.

"When.. when did you find out?" He softly asked.

"Last week. We told you first because if I don't make it through this.. you won't wake up the next day when I'm gone.."

This hit Kenny hard in the face. Realizing that when his mom passes away somehow he will be unable to come back to life. Seeing the beer still in front of him. He pushed it back at his dad and stood on his feet.

"What do you want me to say? You've been lying to me all my life and now your throwing this bomb at me?!"

"Kenny.."

"I need some time to myself." He said while storming off to his room.

Kenny bit his bottom lip as sudden tears burned his eyes realizing if he dies, he actually won't come back to lie. The fact he tried shooting himself not long ago made him realize he wouldn't be holding Karen right now if Y/N wasn't there to stop him. He let out a shaky sight as he hugged her real tight.

"We will find them don't worry." He reassured.

"Are you sure?" Karen asked.

"Yes.. let's go back to the chestrisy lab and grab a few respirators and make our way home. Alright?"

She nodded as he released from the hug and grabbed her hand. As the two made their way to the door, they saw Y/N with her scarf still tightly wrapped around her nose and mouth with Delilah wearing the respirator. When Delilah held up a respirator and handed it to Karen. Kenny couldn't help but smile. It seemed someone else was a bit protective over his little sister. He knew this was the group he wanted to be in during this troubled time.
