While we were talking, strange things happened to the corpses of those red creatures. They started decomposing at an alarming rate. Tompson noticed this, so he called out to us. We all turn our attention toward the corpse. As it decomposes, a fiery ember-looking object starts to slowly appear into existence. We all quickly stood up and stood on guard for the event that the beast somehow revived.
Fortunately, it didn't happen, as the creature decomposed to nothing and the fiery ember fully formed, casting a bright light toward us. I don't know what it is, but something inside is urging me to get it. I look at the others and they have the same expression as me. I asked them "Do you have the feeling of being urged into touching that thing?"
Everyone nodded. We then slowly walked toward it, still high on guard for any unexpected event. The closer we get to it, the more the feeling grows in us. Luckily, we are trained to control ourselves, or else we would have pounced on it like a starving lion. Looking at a really close distance, I can see the color of white inside the fiery ember. That urging feeling has now grown irresistible. I slowly extend my hand toward the fiery ember before someone grabs my hand.
Tompson said to me "What are you doing? You know it's stupid to try to touch something foreign. "
Hearing his words, I snapped back to reality. I apologize for my stupid behavior. Arthur, who was quiet for a while, said, "How about we find someone to test the effects of this fiery ember?" We agreed with his proposal by nodding.
We all went back into formation before heading toward the parking lot. Transportation would help greatly in exploration and storage. We walk cautiously, using our senses to detect any disturbance. The place was quiet until a scream could be heard, "Don't come near me, you demon!!!!" Before rushing to the scream, we quickly reposition our formation. "Help!! Somebody!! Anybody?! " The man pleaded for help.
We arrived at the location where the man's scream was last heard. Knowing there's a red creature near. We all activated our power. Tompson commanded us to fight better and stand strong. I grow myself to four meter in height, while Longbottom turns his skin metallic. In the front of us we found many dismembered bodies. Human organs can be seen spread across the place, the floor painted red.
Being in war, this scene didn't phase us as much. We follow the red floor, arriving in front of a building. The stench of iron can be smelled from it. A frown can be written on our faces, not because of the scene, but because we can feel great danger ahead. Carefully, we walk toward the entrance of the barracks. Looking inside, our faces grew pale. We spotted twenty beasts hungrily eating and ripping soldiers apart.
Slowly, we walk back, not wanting to be involved with anything happening inside. Our steps are steady like a snake slithering across the forest. Step by step, our heart rate grows, but we breathe steadily, trying our best not to die. Fear reeks of us like prey inside a predator's claws. Although there are still screams and pleas from the soldiers inside. The atmosphere was somehow quiet, moving our stiff bodies, trying not to invoke our doom.
Fortunately, none of the demons noticed our presence. Feeling like we were at a safe distance, we all finally caught our breath. However, fear was emanating from us. We realized after that encounter that these creatures pose a significant threat to us. We can now take a few of them, but as soon as a big group appears, we are royally screwed.
Tompson whispers with a trembling voice to everyone "I'm pretty sure everyone understands the situation at hand. So let's quickly think of a plan and get the f*** out of here."
Longbottom managed to bring back his cool and said "We are now currently in section A between the barrack and parking lot. I believe our safest bet is to grab a car and bolt out of here."
I disagreed with Longbottom's idea. "Cars make too much noise. The demon inside the barracks would hear us from there. It's safer to walk out sneakily."
Arthur objected "I disagree with you both, since we know the creature is crowded in the barrack. What prevents them from not being crowded at the entrance?"
Everyone nodded at his wise words. Escaping through the entrance would indeed be suicidal. Arthur continues on to propose his plan. "Although my plan sounds more dangerous. It's still a safer bet. We should scout slowly across the base, finding a location with the least beasts before attempting our escape. "
John raise a question, "How would we attempt our escape when there's only one way out of each section?"
Arthur smiled and said, "Simple. If there's no way out, we make it ourselves." Hearing his words, everyone raises an eyebrow as if to say, "Are you seriously making a joke in moments like these?"
Arthur, satisfied with his joke, said seriously, "If there isn't a way, we can try slowly separating and killing those demons off one by one, making enough openings for us to escape through any of the section entrances."
While this idea sounds utterly stupid, it does make a whole lot of sense. Knowing that these creatures are brainless, we can deduce that they don't know how to cooperate or have a leader figure. Of course, to be safe, we still pay a lot of attention to see if any of them are intelligent. Nevertheless, it's safer if we first scout out the area.
We journey across the whole four sections of the base. We found that section A has a total of one hundred and twenty four demons. Section B has fifty eight demons, section C has one hundred seventy seven demons. Section D has seventy four demons. Looking at the numbers, we can agree that Section B is the safest, being only fifty eight. Unfortunately, those fifty-eight are really grouped up together. So if one notices us, we have to fight all fifty-eight of those sons of b****. Section A has an average group of twenty, with the lowest group number being fifteen, and the highest number being twenty-eight. Section C has an average group of twelve, lowest being ten, highest being sixteen. Section D has an average group of nineteen, lowest being fifteen, highest being twenty two.
We sit in a circle looking at each other. Before Tompson said, "Alright everyone, take a vote on which section we will escape from." he continued, nominating the sections one by one. At the end of the voting section, C was chosen. Everyone understands their goal, and starts our journey quietly toward section C.
Section C, or the communication section, is where information is stored, relayed, and received. It houses top-secret information that is censored from the rest of the world, government officials, and others. People that can assess this information need to be high ranking individuals in the military. There are four giant buildings covering a total of four thousand meters square. Thousands of people used to work under these structures every day, trying to secure and retrieve information for the military as quickly as possible. Now, as far as the eye can see are blood, organs, and bodies. The gruesome sight can cause many to puke for days on end with no appetite. Luckily for us, we have faced this scene many times in war, sometimes even worse.
Our plan is to take down each group one by one. At first, we were not confident in fighting a group of twelve, and we still are. However, Arthur came up with an idea to do so. We will lure them into a narrow space where only a certain number can come in at a time. Any creature that comes in will need to be quickly dispatched. We will do this in cycles until the entire group is killed. There are a lot of flaws in this strategy. Still, it is our best hope of tackling these demons. We execute our plan. Feeling more confident than ever.
