Violet's P.O.V
"Violet. Do not go outside, okay?" John told me as he kissed my forehead.
"Okay.", I replied and after giving me a stern look he hopped in the car along with Tristan.
Michael was taken to the hospital last night due to fatigue, wherein Jaime had to stay at the hospital to take care of him. Turns out Michael passed out inside his room in front of the PlayStation and all of his food was just in the corner untouched. Turns out brother had become addicted to the games Tristan had gifted him on Christmas and was left unsupervised because of how busy our brothers were from work.
Our brothers are the best but they can be quite neglectful of me and Michael especially if a large delivery in their business has to be finished by the end of the month. Hence, the situation where I tried telling them multiple times about how Michael wouldn't eat and would just stay glued in front of the TV screen which led to where we are right now. My brothers panicked over my passed-out twin brother and left me alone in our isolated house.
It didn't bother me to be honest. I only wanted to stay at home and play. My brothers were really reluctant about the idea but still left me alone not before leaving one house rule I needed to follow. Do. Not. Go. Out.
Minutes ticked by. I started to feel bored out of my mind. I jumped around and played with my dollhouse in the living room, even watching some cartoons and afternoon shows while eating the food my brothers left on the dinner table but I still got bored. I counted the ticks and tocks of the grandpa clock we had by the living room while I sat at the stairs directly in front of the main wooden doors to the entrance, admiring the animal carvings on its body.
The main door despite having a plain and dark design from the exterior facing side had a lot of animal and floral carvings on the interior face. There were dandelions, roses, and lilies sprawled around a grassy field where some deer and horses pranced around. At the top of the door was an overlooking carving of an elephant with an owl and a cheetah on either of its sides. It looked weird from my perspective because the three animals looked as if they were staring at me with their realistic carved-out eyes.
Down at the bottom of the door are three carvings of penguins, two of which are encircled with small flowers. One of the penguins was staring face-front while the two were looking at either side. It was rather funny how the middle penguin looked. Lastly, two cats also framed with small flowers are placed on the sides of the main door. The eastern cat had a large flower called violet on its bottom and the western cat had a large lily on its top.
"I can't take this anymore!", grumbling to myself I strutted down the stairs and made my way to open the door. Hearing, the echoing words of my older brother to not go out without any of them. "I know this is bad and almost forbidden but I can't take it. It's been forever and they're not home yet. Even the telephone isn't ringing even though they said they'll call.", I convinced myself, and with a little ounce of courage, I turned the doorknob leading to our front yard. I giggled thinking of what Big Brother's face would look like when he finds out I disobeyed his orders.
To be frank, there's not much to be worried about. Our house is miles away from civilization and you still have to ride for fifteen minutes or so by car to even reach the front gate. It felt like an endless amount of time before we reached home from when we moved from our previous house.
The land in front of our initial fence from the main fence has tons of trees, plants, and a playground where I can play. At the further back of the house, there's even a small lake and falls. Even though we have a pool, Tristan, Jaime, and I would go there to take a swim when summer comes. John would always be out and Michael would be locked inside his room playing video games.
After playing for a few minutes or so in my playground, I was overcome with boredom again. Looking out in the distance I could see the edge of the initial fence that we had. Curiosity got the best of me and got on my two feet to walk to the edge.
When I reached the edge I was greeted by our 10-foot-tall fence, four feet of it are made of concrete and the rest are thick posts, and on top of it are 5 inches of spikes that are very sharp.
Tracing my hands along the concrete part of the fence as I walked, I noticed a gate covered with vines and thorns.
"I've never seen this gate before. It leads outside, beyond the fence.", I whispered to myself.
I touched the handle wanting to open it but could not because of my short legs that won't let me reach. I wanted to cry cause no matter what I couldn't open it. Making me seem like a big baby, I pouted really badly.
Not giving up, I tried jumping while holding the handle and noticed that it moved a little. Smiling, I kept on jumping and jumping while moving to the left making the handle move, and after a few more jumps the gate opened.
Pushing it fully open, beyond it was a lush green forest. It wasn't like the mini forest within the perimeters of the fence. This forest was dark and gloomy like someone would burst out of the bushes with a sharp thing and kill you. In fact, it was really scary.
I giggled at the thought and started to enter. Walking through the branches of wood and tree stumps. I memorized my surroundings so I would know where to go when I needed to go back home.
Two years before, me and my twin brother, Michael were taught some survival skills by our big brother. But they would never teach me self-defense moves like they did with Michael, saying that it was too rough for my young age especially because I was a girl so they were careful of teaching me of things that would cause me to hurt myself.
Unbeknownst to them, I would watch how they taught Michael some moves, kicks, and guns. Watching in secret, slowly practicing and trying out the movements they show. In the end, they gave up giving Michael some lessons, seeing how he was more gifted with his mind and intellect than his physical strength.
Michael is my twin brother, We are the youngest of the family.
I have three big brothers. John the oldest, is wise but sometimes like a baby like me. Tristan is the second and the brother I hate the most because he annoys me to no end by treating me like a small weak baby most of the time.
The last one is Jaime, he always carries me on his back and runs outside of the house. The fastest runner I have ever seen in my whole life. He's faster compared to the people who are running in the marathons on the TV. Sometimes I would even say that he was somewhat teleporting from one spot to the other.
I love all of my brothers and would not ask for more, but there are times when I feel my chest ache and a sense of longing starts to creep out. Mommy died from giving birth to me and Michael, while Daddy was in another place working, it was what my big brothers told us. I sometimes wanted to see Daddy but John would always dismiss the idea of me seeing him, making me always wonder why he didn't even visit on our birthdays.
As I continued to walk I heard a scream. I stopped dead in my tracks and listened to where it came from.
"AAAAHHHHH!!!!!!"
There it was again, coming from the distance where a huge tree was standing. I ran towards it and saw a door in the huge rock that led up to the sky, or as far as I could see. The tree being the tallest of the bunch in the area.
"AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!! HELP ME!!!!"
The scream came from behind the door. I stayed outside for a while cause I was scared of what I might find inside. "This feels like a scene from one of the movies Big Brother watches on the TV.", I whispered to myself.
I contemplated whether I should stay longer or go quickly back home. But looking back at the distant view of the gate made me realize the state and danger I was in making me bolt right back towards the open gate not before stopping midway and pointing at the door.
"I'll come back tomorrow to enter you!" I shouted and turned to run again. Entering the fence, I quickly did what I had previously done to the gate handle, only this time it was to close the gate.
After finishing, I ran to the house and locked the door behind me before catching my breath and taking a seat back on the stairs staring at the main door again. I could feel my heart racing making my cheeks flush a darker hue.
Minutes later the door opened and in came John, Tristan, Jaime, and Michael. "Big brother!", I smiled and ran to John as he lifted me up and carried me in his arms with a smile etched on his lips.
"Were you lonely?" he asked.
"Nope." I giggled with a cheeky grin.
"Violet.", his smile disappeared as he gave me a stern look. I could only giggle as I did not have any further answers knowing that he would always catch me in a lie.
"Violet I told you not to go out." He said in his low voice as he walked me to the sofa and sat me down beside Michael, placing his hand on his hip. His suit jacket off of his shoulder, rolling the sleeves of his white dress shirt.
"Now the two of you. You can't just do what you want to do. You can get hurt if you go outside on your own Violet. No one was here to protect you if something did happen.", John's voice was assertive and formal. A tone I know he uses when he is stern and in no manner happy.
"And you young boy! Need to stop sleeping in front of the computer and eat your meals! Jeez, you two are so troublesome.", Tristan scolded us whilst John eyed me and Michael with his black eyes.
Hours later, Jaime was in the kitchen starting to cook dinner with John. Michael was seated on the couch reading a book while I sat at our bay window, leaning my chin on the window sill and staring at the distance where the gate was. "I wonder if I can go back tomorrow?"
After dinner, I brushed my teeth, watched a few cartoons, and lay in bed. Dinner was yummy as always. Although I was scolded for not eating the veggies on my plate but was still given dessert after. The dessert was the yummy brownies Jamie made which I consider the best I have ever tasted in the whole world, not that I have been in other places in the world to taste other brownies.
After a few tosses and turns, sleep doesn't seem to visit me. I made my way into Michael's bed inside our shared room and saw that he wasn't there. Frowning, I walked towards our door and exited the room. As I stood outside with my bare feet on the wooden hallway of the second floor, I walked towards the light coming from the study room.
"So where will you go tomorrow? Someone has to take care of Violet and Michael at home." I heard John speak from the lit room, I peeked a little and saw the other brothers as well as Michael inside conversing.
"I'm thinking that I would fly to California tomorrow to help Jack and the others get the cash. I'm also gonna pick up a few bags on the way.", brother Jaime answered in a nonchalant tone.
"Give me a break. That bank hasn't been robbed for years cause of how tight the security is. It is so hard to break in because of the gadget thingy they use for their security system. People these days are too much into gadgets and stuff, unlike the olden days." Tristan protested as he took another sip of his wine, looking ahead as if he was looking at something or maybe remembering memories.
"Not if you have a genius little brother .", Michael grinned as he handed a little chip to Jaime. Big brother Tristan snatched the chip from Jaime's palm making the other's face contort with annoyance.
"Little bro, what can this little chip do that can disarm the whole system? Ha! This won't stop the guards and police you know?" Tristan mocked and held it in front of Michael's face.
Michael smirked. "That. little chip.", he said pointing at the small chip. "Contains a kind of program that can steal all of the codes and accounts of that bank and transfer it to my computer. Plus that 'small' chip has a kind of self-destruct on it that when activated can destroy all of the gadgets within the building including the alarms and ways of communication so the guards do not have any access to the police, swat, or whatever shenanigan." He stated proudly to Tristan, his arms crossing over his chest.
Blinking twice, "You know little bro. It makes me forget that you're just a 6-year old sometimes. Hell, I can't even do such a thing. You really are my brother." Tristan chuckled as he placed his arm over Michael's shoulder.
"That's because you're stupid," Jaime said sipping wine from his glass making me giggle at his remark to brother Tristan.
All heads turned towards the door. John opened it full and smiled warmly as he picked me up and led me inside.
"Why is it that our little princess is still not asleep on her bed?" He asked me with a certain sparkle in his eyes from how the light bounced off of it.
"I'm not sleepy yet. I went to Michael's bed but he wasn't there and I saw the light turned on here so I went and peeked inside." I explained to him as he rocked back and forth letting me lay my head on his shoulder.
"Why didn't you go to my room instead?" John asked as I felt myself getting sleepy by being rocked and forth. "I don't know." I yawned.
"Next time princess, if you're sleepy and you find yourself alone. You can go to my or Tristan's room, or maybe Jaime's room. okay?", he cooed.
"Mkay." I yawned for one last time and closed my eyes to sleep. "Goodnight sweetie." was the last words I heard before sleep consumed me.
