Hilde was packing up her things after work when Helen walked to her. "Are you leaving? We should at least have a drink to celebrate our promotion", she said.
Hilde stopped abruptly "I have something to do at home" she said with a shaky voice. Helen didn't notice it and continued "Don't be like that, aren't you suprised about it. Do you think that we got promoted because of the coffee? It would be crazy if that was the reason" she said with a bit of amusement.
Hilde was already tired of the conversation and made little effort to hide it 'ridiculous' she thought.
"Why would that be the reason? Don't you want to get promoted? Besides if it was because of that you would have gotten an higher position. You were the one who bought it" she replied.
Helen scoffed as she continued "I was the one who got it but didn't you see the way he was just glancing at you severally. You can't lie that you didn't notice it" she said to Hilde who didn't respond to her again but continued packing her bag.
Helen looked at her slightly annoyed "You are pretending you didn't hear me" she said and was about to leave before she saw the glass bead inside one of the books that were on the desk. She pulled it out to take a closer look at it drawing Hilde attention.
"What is this.....?" she was interrupted by Hilde who quickly grabbed it from her hand. She was suprised by this and tried hard before the words came out of her mouth "I just wanted to see it, what is that?".
"Uhmm....it..is an ornament, it looked pretty so I bought it" Hilde replied and gave a nervous smile.
"I have to go now" she said and quickly left the office but she could still feel Helen gaze on her as she walked out.
"She is acting so strange. I haven't seen her this way before." Helen whispered to herself as she watched her leave.
Hilde entered her car and exhaled lightly, 'I must have acted so strange' she thought as she grabbed the glass bead. She didn't realize she was holding it tightly until she felt a light air on her palms.
She looked at it slowly while releasing her palms "Huh.... home did this happen?". The glass bead had cracked a little but whatever was inside was still intact. "Why is it so fragile?" she thought.
She was about to start the car before she heard a strange sound. She turned to the back seat and stopped "What was that? Is something wrong?".
She got out to check out the problem when she saw a flash of a shadow. It disappeared as soon as it came, she felt a bit afraid remembering she had these type of experience before.
She quickly turned back and decided to take out the glass bead but suddenly the door of the car closed making her more startled. She turned around and saw nothing in the parking lot before she felt something cold pass her back.
There was only one option, she would run but before she could take a step she felt something hit her leg. She fell down as the electrocuting pain seized through her body. She saw some smoky creatures surrounding her and a pair of white shoes stopped in front of her as she was slowly passing out.
'Please don't hurt me' the words couldn't leave her mouth as her throat felt struck.
Suddenly she heard a male voice but couldn't hear what he was saying because of the distance the next things she heard was clashing sounds. Seemed like someone had come to save her, "You'll meet us again" A female voice whispered in her head before she passed out.
"Are you going somewhere?" Edna asked as she saw Oliver walking towards the door. He turned a bit surprised but relaxed when he saw her "I needed to get something in the area, it isn't far at all" he replied.
Edna smiled walking towards him "You don't have to worry about that. Take this with you."
Oliver looked at the glass bead hesitantly before collecting it. It had some beautiful patterns on it and a string at two sides which made it look like a bracelet. "Is this some kind of team token?" he asked jokingly.
Edna was not amused, she gave him a strange look before answering him, "it is to protect yourself". Her answer was short and cold and he suddenly felt uncomfortable "I will take my leave now, but how does this works? Do you point it at them or something?" he said.
She narrowed her eyes and answered him with the same tone,
"You just have to keep it on you. But be careful, it can easily get cracked and if it get dropped it will break. If it get cracked it'll take a longer time before it works but if it breaks that is the end" she paused for a while as if thinking of what to say.
"Can I go now?" Oliver asked after a while of cold silence. "Yes I'll continue when you come back" she said before walking away. Oliver watched her leave as he thought in his mind 'How can a woman give out such a cold aura. She's somehow scary'
