Chapter 33 - They're meeting again

Hilde woke up the next day feeling a lot better than how she felt when she came home. Hyde had treated her before leaving yesterday night. She prepared for work while thinking about him.

'Even though some times he acts like an unfeeling jerk, he is somehow 'nice' in a way' she thought before remembering what he said. Just hearing about it made her insides clench yet, he had been living with all those memories.

The truth was after their discussion she actually felt scared about everything. Even having the powers alone was dangerous not to talk of the other people that had it and were their enemies.

As she continued in her train of thoughts she remembered the attack and voice she heard about that day. Thinking about it now she should have told Hyde about it. It was definitely a human voice, even if he kept her somewhere secret because of it she wouldn't complain about it with her current state.

"Am I not just overreacting? It has been more than a week ago since that time and I've gone to work severally without anything happening thanks to the glass bead" she said to herself.

The glass bead was another mystery, how the crack on it had disappeared still puzzled her when she thought about it but later on she dismissed the incident. She always tried to bring herself to a conclusion that since it was magical it fixed itself up. There was nothing logical about magic anyway, it always seems not to make sense. But she knew that there was more to that story, whoever saved her must have done that and for some reason wasn't showing up in front of her.

She sighed softly while waving off the myriad of thoughts she had. She didn't realize she had wasted a lot of time thinking and was almost late. What was important this morning was work, she reminded herself before picking up her bag when she realized she left something. The glass bead.

To confirm her doubts she quickly dropped her handbag on a stool in front of her and skimmed through it. It really wasn't there. 'I must have left it upstairs' she thought before climbing the stairs. She opened the door of her room and from the short distance she could see it lying on her bedside table.

In a hurry she ran towards it and picked it up. However before she turned back her thumb slid through the smooth surface of the bid releasing her hold on it as the rest of her fingers gave way too. A moment seemed like forever as she watched the bead fall and shatter right in her front.

She bent down after being frozen in the same spot for some while and touched what remained of the glass bead when she felt something pierce through the tip of her finger. It was probably a piece of the glass.

"How.....?" before she could finish her statement the door of her room slightly moved and she quickly turned back in her panicked reflex.

She stood and looked around closely but didn't see any sign of a living thing.

"Calm down, you are probably imagining things. There is nothing here" she said in what came out like more of a whisper. She walked slowly to the door with a pounding heart and stopped right in front of the door.

The only thing behind that door was a hockey stick that was belonged to her mother. She thought of what to do with just that before she remembered what Hyde had once said that if she tried hard she could be able to transfer energy to ordinary materials.

Even though she had no idea of how she was going to do that she decided to still hold on to it. Just when she was about to take it she felt herself being thrown backwards roughly. She fell in agonizing pain. It was the same. Just like in the carpark and right here in her house.

This was definitely the same person, the way she hit her, the strange atmosphere that soon followed and even the way she held her in suspense waiting for the worst to happen. However this time was going to be different, she wasn't who she was a week ago. She wouldn't just lie here helplessly, groaning in pain.

She opened her palms and placed both of them on the cold tiled floor to support herself and slowly her knees followed before she finally got up on her feet.

"Well what do you say?" came a sharp and firm feminine voice. "Don't we have a track record of keeping our words?" she asked Hilde who was trying to stabilize herself after that blow. Still she managed to respond,

"I guess I can say that. This is the first time you're making a promise and you've kept it"

"Well, let me tell you something. This would be the last from me and from anyone else. No one will save you today" she said and then made herself visible to Hilde.

Hilde stared at the woman in front of her and felt a familiar feeling, even when she was convinced she had never seen her before. She was tall almost to an intimidating height and she had a vicious look on her extremely pretty face. Her hair was also multicolored but in a fashionable way that made her look like a celebrity.

Wait..... her hair. They were exactly the same ones with the mermaids she saw during her first dream. This woman was.....

"Are you an Oceanide? I am one of you too?" Hilde asked. She knew it was a foolish question to ask someone who has tried to kill her twice. What she really had in mind was getting the hockey stick that was just a few inches away from her without drawing this woman attention.
