June turned back to observe Percival who was about to explain how he made such spell work. Percival could see the want in the eyes of the spell geniuses which were June and Grey.
"What I used was something that my family has been researching for a long time."
'He has a family and not an orphan. He must have been sent to the military academy when he was 5 years old when his family found out that he has magic talent. I guess such families exist that would send their young children away for many years.'
Grey was not the only one who had a thoughtful look on his face, even Bon had the same look as he too was an orphan.
'It kind makes me wonder if such children were in our class back then.'
Grey thought as he looked at Bon and Ilse, they had seemly normal surnames, maybe they were not orphans.
"My family might not be a noble one, but we have many military mages. We could be called a magic family I guess. And we have always liked magic research and what I used was our result."
'If his family is not a noble family it means they have never produced a tier 4 mage who has had enough merits to buy a noble status. Or maybe they don't want to be nobles, people have different beliefs after all.'
Grey thought as he observed Percival.
"What I used was a tier 1 spell called [Elemental Control]. The spell is the initial result of our research. The spell allows the wielder to actually control the bodies our element affinity are in tune with, like the underground spring that I controlled to turn into an ice glacier."
Most of spells summoned the elements around them to make effects, like using [Rock Shield] spell which summoned a shield made of rock to protect the mage. What [Elemental Control] allowed the mage was to control the ground they are standing on. T
he same thing could be done with bodies of water, [Elemental Control] could be used to control those bodies of water.
'The spell can be useful in certain situations. But looking at Lt Elrod who is completely out of mana from using a tier 1 spell even though he is a tier 2 mage, it looks like the spell needs some tuning.'
Grey was already thinking of making the spell more better.
"I am guessing you can control how powerful the spell can be by how much mana is used?"
June asked with a thoughtful look on her face, after all she too was a spell genius, just a slightly crazy one.
"That of course cannot be hidden from your eyes."
'Though there must be a limit, a tier 1 spell will not have the same power as a tier 2 spell. Even this ice glacier is not really a tier 2 spell, it still lacks power.'
Grey thought as he ran through the research potential of [Elemental Control]. The Elrod family had submitted the spell to the military a while ago, and they had gotten a lot of merits from that, allowing them to exchange for multiple talent increasing treasures.
They too must have understood that, thus they felt no need to keep it hidden, they rather get something from the effort put into the research of the spell.
"Lieutenant Elrod how did you know that there was an unground water spring in this position? Such information should have been known by both sides of the teams that were sparing. Meaning our team should have know about this position."
Bon was the one who asked that question as he very interested on why such information was not shared.
"Ah that… This is a recent finding in this place. The information is supposed to be released very soon. I guess you could say I took advantage of this knowledge. But I know you lot understand that information is vital during warfare, I just capitalised on that rule in this instance."
Bon nodded in understanding, whilst June had a look of annoyance because as lieutenant, she should know this information. But sometimes she gets caught up in her spell research that she forgets to read her reports sent to her.
"Okay, good spar everyone. Recruit Gram, fire off the [Signal Flare]."
That interested the only non military academy person in the team, Grant Hart.
Grey did not take a long time to fire off the spell, because the spell was only an improved version tier 0 spell [Light Ball]. The spell [Signal Flare] is more powerful and can be launched high into the air and will stay there for a few seconds, but was still a tier 0 spell.
"Hart, that spell is used to summon the healing mages, it can also be used as fire, light, lightning and sometimes water/ice variants. You will see a lot of them during a battle."
Grant nodded.
"You three are dismissed, Lt Marion and myself will wait for the healing mage and will bring back the rest of your team members.
"Yes Sir."
Grant, Grey and Bon left back to their dorm rooms to freshen up, though Grant was going to be alone because Ross was still receiving treatment for his injuries inflicted by Ilse and Sharon.
There were no words spoken amongst the three males, but Grant would always glance at Grey as they were travelling. Grant still felt trepidation when he thought of the terror Grey's spells gave him.
'So this is the spell genius that made the tracking spells, he is very average in terms of looks, but the pressure that gets released from his body makes him impossible not to notice. Only if I had as much talent as him…'
"Grey that fellow called Grant is really afraid of you."
Chuckle.
Bon laughed because this situation was slightly funny, though Grey did not comment on his statement. Grey just went into their dorm room and ignored Bon who was starting to talk more.
Though Bon was correct, it would take a while for Grant to get over the feeling of death from above created by [Guided Incinerating Missile]. The site of two girls screaming in pain due being burned by concentrated Light and Fire type elements was still fresh in his mind.
The trauma would eventually leave him, but he would not forget the experience.
After freshening up, Bon and Grey went to have their breakfast since they had not had anything to eat today.
"Good morning Grey, Meyer."
"Morning Scarlet, you can just call me Bon when we are such environments."
Commented Bon, when he realised that the duo of Grey and Scarlet were people he did not talk to during the academy, they would only nod to each other at certain points when they met.
"Morning Scarlet, how was your team spar?"
Grey wanted to make sure that his subordinate was performing well, Grey did not want people who would bring him down.
"My side won. I was teamed with Tracy Gram and two civilian recruits with 1st Lt Tris Packer commanding us."
Grey nodded understanding.
"How was your spar Grey?"
"It was a draw."
There was a look of surprise on Scarlet's freckled face.
Chuckle.
Bon chuckled as he looked at Scarlet's face that showed surprise.
'In fact what is the relationship between these two, are they dating or something.'
It was normal to think that, these two were always together. The fact that Grey and Scarlet looked 17 years of age, it could be considered normal to have a boyfriend or girlfriend.
The two were not the most pretty of people, but people would think they were meant for each other with their average faces.
"Let's say our 1st Lt was very formidable. Grey almost got taken out by his spell."
Scarlet turned to Grey to make sure it is the truth.
Grey just nodded in conformation.
'If Grey's crush Sophia was here, she would not believe it. That girl just worships him too much to believe that he would loose, I guess I am somewhat similar to her.'
"Can you please explain to me how it happened?"
Grey thus started to explain the whole spar starting from the beginning. Giving comments on the performance of the people involved, including Bon who was seating next to him, which made the fellow to feel embarrassed. He also commented on where he could have done better.
"Grey I did not know [Air Dome] could be used as an attacking method, but I understand why you did not explain that. The need to double cast [Air Dome] and attack spell is very important."
Scarlet was aware of the [Air Dome] spell because Grey had given her many wind type spell structures to study and use.
After having breakfast the three went back to their dorms to study magic or accumulate magic by meditation, knowing that it would soon start.
