Lucette walked back and forth in her room.
The duel was about to begin as they agreed to fight after the sunset.
Who could imagine that she forgot the blood supplement she needed and her plan to go to the clinic? How could she fight with her current situation? As if her past self would do something in combat.
Lucette pursed her lips. Hearing the doorbell, she took a deep breath, going down.
Facing the alpha, he asked, "Are you ready?" leaning on the wall. His smirk sent a chill to her bones.
Why did I feel like I gave him my life that easily?
She nodded and walked to the backyard. They chose the house's backyard to hide their fight.
"Eager to start?" he said.
Very much!
Lucette's heartbeat increased with every breath she took. She eyed the man standing there. He put his hands in his pockets, looking at her with calm eyes, not like the angry expression he showed hours ago.
She regretted her decision a million times.
Lucette shook her head and ran to the alpha, she attacked him, but he caught her hand with ease and flipped her over. She plunged to the floor.
"Weak," he said, chuckling.
Lucette fisted her hands and then launched another attack, but the alpha dodged it without moving. It continued like this for minutes. The alpha never attacked her.
"I will make this easy on you. If you scratch me, you'll win," he said.
Is he helping or mocking me?
Lucette thought it was the latter, so she kicked him, but he stepped backwards. He was agile. She could not even touch him.
After half an hour, Lucette's legs trembled, and she panted. She felt like collapsing but giving up was not an option.
She looked over. The alpha stood there, not even a wrinkle in his blue shirt.
"It's over," he said. His voice broke the silence in the night.
"No," she said. Her voice sounded low but firm.
The alpha gazed at her and walked to the backdoor. Lucette's chest heaved up and down fast.
No, I won't accept this!
She can't possibly go back to her kingdom, the prison she lived in for years. She will never give up until she does something worthy in her life.
Lucette moved her leg to follow him but her feet didn't respond. His back got smaller as he marched farther.
'Stop,' she wanted to say, but her voice never came out.
No, don't go.
Lucette's mind became hazy. A strange sensation took over her mind. Something like craving. Although the first time something like this happened, she knew the urge to feed was taking over her.
She suppressed it for hours, but it seemed she was losing her sanity.
All she could think was… blood.
She took a deep breath. As if her sense sharpened, hearing the blood pumping in someone's veins not far away from her. And the heartbeats pounded Like a pleasant song.
Her mind and vision got blurry.
The next moment, she was sinking her teeth into someone or something. The good thing was her prey didn't move.
Her mind cleared minutes later. As she took two steps backwards, the familiar back of the alpha greeted her. His blue shirt had a few spots of blood while he clutched his neck where she bit.
What did I do?
Her heart rose to her mouth. She opened her mouth and closed it! Should she say sorry?
"Alpha —" she said, biting her lips. Sensing something was wrong, she moved closer to him. Orson held his chest. His breath hitched as he struggled to talk.
"What happened to you?" she asked, looking at him. She touched his shoulder, but he fell to the ground.
Lucette's face turned whiter. She hurried to check him, seeing the veins in his neck turning black.
What happened?
She picked up his phone and called the doctor's number. Then, she took the alpha into the living room, putting him on the couch. Lucette hurried to open the door, dragging the doctor in.
"What happened?" he asked.
"Just help him," Lucette said.
She left the doctor examining the alpha's condition. Lucette went to her room, closing the door behind her. She sat down, hugging her knees.
What's going on? What have I done?
'Stupid Lucette, you keep making trouble wherever you go,' she reprimanded herself. After getting her food from the alpha, the one thing she shouldn't have done, she would wait for her punishment like usual.
Lucette looked at her shaking hands. She fisted them and took a deep breath.
'What if he died?' Lucette shook her head. 'No, he just passed out. But why?'
What shall I do now?
"Lucette, don't worry, the alpha will be alright," Hannah consoled her. Hannah told her the healer called the beta, so she came to check on her.
They sat inside her room. Hannah talked to her, trying to cheer her, but Lucette stayed silent. An hour passed like years, and Lucette's nervousness increased.
"How is he?" she asked the healer. He was a well-built man with white skin and rather a gentle expression.
"Don't worry. His condition is stable for the time being. He is sleeping right now," he said. Then he excused himself.
She wasn't worried about the alpha's condition but about herself. The doctor went before she could ask him more about the reason that made the alpha faint.
"Lucette, are you okay?" Hannah asked.
Lucette nodded and assured her friend that she was alright.
"Tell us what happens. Who attacks the alpha?" Jordan asked as he came after talking with the doctor.
Lucette froze. 'If she told them what happened, would they punish her?'
"I don't know?" Lucette answered, clutching the hem of her shirt. "I-I was in my room when I heard voices downstairs, I went to have a look, but I found the alpha unconscious."
She raised her head to see the doctor staring at her. 'Did he notice anything?'
"Strange! I didn't smell any unknown scent here. Let's wait for the alpha to wake up. We need to tighten the security around the house," the beta muttered, then he went out.
Lucette lowered her head. Hannah came, saying sweet words to her, but the more she said, the guiltier she felt. They believed in her imaginary story.
If they found out, then she would be doomed.
