Chapter 38 - He Agreed?

Lucette put the newly backed bread on the plate and ordered the servants to take them to the dining room.

"They smelled…" Hannah said, taking a deep breath. Lucette chuckled and walked ahead of her to the dining room.

The alpha sat on the head chair with his stoic face. If not for the construction happening in her house, she would not come here.

The dinner went in calmly; the only sound that echoed in the spacious room was the click of the utensils. "Pam, tell Henrietta that she had done a great dinner tonight," the alpha said.

The short woman named Pam lowered her head and whispered, "The food was made by the Luna."

Lucette raised her head at the same time Orson looked at her. He frowned, got up and walked away.

She sneered, 'What a face! He is supposed to thank me.'

After dinner, Lucette sat with Hannah on the wooden chairs in the garden, sipping their hot chocolate. Droplets of rain fell on the wooden ceiling covering them.

"You did well, the alpha praised your skills," she said.

Lucette's focus on the garden shifted to Hannah, who exclaimed like a child, looking at her. "He didn't praise me," Lucette said, unbothered. He sent her a cold glare and went away so she wouldn't care about his swinging mood.

"But he loved the food you made, which means the plan is working," She said.

Despite rejecting the idea of her seeking the alpha's attention, Hannah went on with the illusion she made. Lucette looked away from her beaming friend. "I made the food for the people living here, not for him alone," she said.

She enjoyed cooking in which she wanted to be the palace's chef in the past, learning different recipes from the royal chefs, but she realized that it would never happen. Regardless, she would sneak into the kitchen with the help of Miranda to cook with the freshest ingredients ever. She had a close relationship with the cooks, so they would help her to cover the aftermath.

Hannah kept blabbering nonstop while she stared at the garden. The greenness of the trees and the landscape in front of them glistered after the rain stopped. Flowers began to bloom, and the moon lightened the place.

In the vampire kingdom, due to the absence of light, there were no plants, trees or flowers unless they were artificial. Looking at this area made her feel alive and peaceful.

"Lucy, Lucy…"

Hannah's shout broke her thoughts. "Did you say something?" she asked.

"Forget it," Hannah said, shaking her head.

Lucette coughed. "I was absorbed in the scenery…"

"This isn't the first time," she said, sighing. "Don't make plans for tomorrow evening. We are going somewhere." Hannah smiled mischievously.

"Where?" she asked, gulping. The way Hannah looked at her scared her.

"Shopping!" Hannah said.

'No!!!'

"I will take you to an amazing place to shop. Don't refuse. You will love it, I will go shopping for my baby this time," she said, caressing her belly.

Lucette nodded, then dropped her head in grief. Her legs started to hurt unknowingly. Hannah was crazy when it came to shopping. The few times she went with her made her legs burn.

She agreed just for the sake of the baby coming soon.

The two continued to chat, then went to rest. Walking through the corridor, Lucette was about to go to her room on the second floor, but Hannah stopped her.

"Don't go. You will live in another room," she said, and Lucette raised a brow. "That room was small for the Luna to live. Come, I will show you the new one."

Following her friend, Lucette asked, "Why change the room? It was fine." The room she lived in was almost the same size as the one in her house.

"You will love your new room, I'm sure," she said, smirking.

Lucette walked to the third floor. She would stay here for a few days, so it didn't matter where she would sleep.

"Have good dreams," Hannah said, slipping fast.

'Her behaviour is strange.'

Lucette stared at the empty corridor and then went in. The unique scent of the alpha entered her nose. The packhouse had many people living there, so their scents mixed. Strangely, the alpha's smell was strong in here.

'Could it be his room?'

She walked inside. The chamber was indeed large and almost empty. There was a huge bed covered with a brown bed sheet, near it was a small wooden bedside table, where a lamp was put over it. Huge window enclosed with beige curtain at the opposite wall. Two doors at the extremity of the opposite white-coloured wall.

Lucette unlocked the door beside her, and men's clothes and accessories were put there. She opened her mouth in surprise.

'The room is indeed the alpha's room!' She closed the door and turned when the alpha came in.

"What are you doing here?" he asked, seizing her up and then closing the door.

'What a bad luck!' Lucette lost her chance to escape. She stood frozen, looking at the man.

"Did you find out how to resolve the contract?" he asked, stepping closer.

Lucette's hand clutched her white sweater and bit her lips. "No," she murmured.

"Then why are you here?" came his cold voice.

'I need to think of an excuse, and fast! Hannah, I shouldn't have listened to your words!' she was behaving suspiciously, but Lucette never thought that Hannah would do something like this.

"I came to talk about the bargain we made," she said, looking at the floor, not daring to look at his face.

She wanted to talk to him in a better situation, but she was obliged now.

The room went into silence. Neither of them made a sound.

"What bargain?" he asked, crossing his hands.

Lucette looked up. "The night of the duel, I—I won."

"And?"

'What's wrong with him?'

"The promise you made about the spring festival—"

She stopped talking when she gazed at his stoic face. There was no emotion in his eyes. She thought he would be angry, but it didn't happen.

"You said what you had to. Out," he said.

"Are you going to turn in your words? You are the alpha—"

"No," he said with a firm voice.

"Huh?"

'What did he say?'

"I will fulfil our agreement. Go out," he said.

'He agreed so easily!' Lucette smiled and ran out for fear he would change his mind, but why did she feel something was amiss with the alpha? Shrugging off her thought, she headed to her room happily.

Finally, I got what I wanted.
