Chapter 1 - The End

Present-day: June 15th, 2029, 4:46 pm

Ivan Knight:

As I ran out of that prison, I felt my heartbeat get faster, I couldn't breathe, my whole body was shaking, I was surrounded by people asking me millions of questions to which I didn't know the answer.

I couldn't think, and there was only one thing was going through my head: "This was the worst decision I had ever made!"

As I was speeding down the driveway, I hurried to the middle of the road, cars were honking, people we shouting: "You're going to get killed ", yet they were ignorant of the fact that I was already dead on the inside.

What I had done was unforgivable, I did this to her. I always find a way to screw up over and over again. I ruined everything.

I used the last bit of consciousness I had left to hop into my car that was parked on the other side of the street.

How am I going to drive? I have no idea, but I needed to get there. She loved that place.

I ripped the long black silk robe off my body and threw it into the backseat. Then I kissed the purple promise ring she gave me, started the engine, and proceeded to guide my grey Range Rover to my target.

This needed to be done. There's no other choice. You didn't deserve it. I'm a criminal. I need to be punished.

What have I done to us?

My inner thoughts were blinding my vision. I had no more effort, that place was an hour away, it certainly wasn't going to be safe, during this long ride I didn't have the intention to kill anybody else.

My phone rang, so I looked and saw that Roger was calling me. I declined his call, however, he kept contacting me. He's always been stubborn, but I can't deal with it right now.

"I'm sorry, I love you, brother". I say after I answered the phone before he got the chance to speak.

"What are you talking about Ivan, what's happening?" He says back with his voice full of concern.

I hung up the cell and threw it from the window. I know he's going to be heartbroken. This man has done nothing but supports me since we were 4, I never wanted to do this to him, but I can't bring myself to confess what I'm about to do. At least I got to say goodbye.

A small distance ahead was a red light, but I wasn't planning to stop. NOTHING is getting in my way. As I was still moving forward, my eyes met with an old lady crossing the street.

For god's sake.

I am certain there was a power above that was making this task a million times harder.

"Pour mercy on me, please!", I murmur while looking up as if they would hear me. I'm helpless.

As soon as the woman was out of sight, I speeded again. I had no time to waste.

I've been driving for 20 minutes, and this is going nowhere. The universe is against me, but I have to do get there no matter how many hurdles get in my way.

"How much longer do I still have to tolerate this for goodness sake". I said while tears have started wetting my eyes. My heart was aching, I was in pain, I'm a horrible person. I'm not the crying type, never was, but my emotions have been heightened, and even more, tears started shedding before I could realize. Not the right time.

No perspective:

Ivan wasn't himself, he was driving like a psychopath, so fast he couldn't notice anything around him. He was in a race between him, time, and destiny. He overcame the obstacles god put him through during that ride repeating one single sentence: "I did this to her".

Deep down, he knew the heavens were giving him a sign to stop, but he kept ignoring it. He was numb to emotions. During that one-hour drive, that man has felt more than he can bear, it was enough, so it was time to shut it all down.

Flashbacks of all the good memories, broken promises, and images of 'her' were running through his head.

"Don't you dare ever leave me, I can't imagine living without you, I love you baby". He could hear her soothing voice saying this like it was yesterday.

"Never in a million years". He answered back leaning forward to give her a passionate kiss, both embracing that moment. It always felt like the first time with her. She made him go crazy by any little touch, her voice would give him butterflies, and every time they talked, he was falling in love with her all over again. She was his, he was hers, but they knew their love was cursed. They tried to fly, yet their wings got cut off repetitively. He was persuaded they were endgame, nevertheless, they never had a shot, no matter how much they tried.

"Till my last breath angel".

His thoughts came to a halt when his eyes landed on what was in front of him. There he was on the top of 'that' hill back where it all started. Here, he made memories that remained tattooed in his mind for all those years.

He hopped out of the car, walking forward to the edge. He first took a look at the ring one last time then closed his irresistible green eyes as the wind was blowing through his curly hair. He was taking his last breath but why did he feel so...careless?

1-2-3...And it all went...black.
