Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Origins

"I'm being followed aren't I," Ki Myeong thought to himself.

After walking in the park for several more minutes he shot a glance to see a man in a suit with sunglasses on not far behind him.

"I see..."

He sighed and slowly eased himself as he slowed down. After noticing there were less people around he hesitantly sat down on a bench and waited.

Ki Myeong is a 15 year old exchange student from Korea:

In a world where monsters rarely appear, on the off chance it does a few hundred employees secretly dedicate their lives to fight them off. Ki Myeong's dad was one of them. Due to his irregular compatibility with water, he had acquired a skill of sorts.

The US immediately offered him a job and Ki Myeong moved in with his father and became an exchange student. However, his father had died the year after at work...

Although to the rest of the world, he is currently alive and healthy as the government refused to let any confidential information regarding the case to be leaked to the public. Due to this, Ki Myeong was under constant surveillance even now..

"Are you Mr. Myeong?" The man in the suit asked him.

"Yes,"

"Have you been doing well?"

"Yes, sir."

"There's no need for formalities, you may call me Chae Jiwoo or Chae if you prefer, anyway how have you been doing financially?"

"My father left his credit card the day he left for work and the government seems to still be paying his salary to ensure there are no suspicions,"

Chae Jiwoo slightly chuckled.

"Talk about misfortune becoming fortune ay? How is your mother?"

"She passed not so long before I was born..."

Ki Myeong stared emotionlessly at the scenery in front of him and admired it for a few seconds before returning his gaze to his lap.

"I am very sorry to hear that... and therefore I will give you any help you need although now I think about it you seem very responsible as you haven't spent any of the money unwisely. Nevertheless, if you ever need any support I have been assigned to you,"

"Assigned to see if I develop skills like my father?"

Chae Jiwoo fell silent.

Even if it was for a minute there was a pause in which Ki Myeong understood everything. There was a slight breeze and Ki Myeong for the first time turned to look at Chae Jiwoo's face and after a few seconds he began to smile.

"If you become anything like your father, you would become a spectacular man. Also, I've been told to ask you if you've seen any small containers your dad may have had in his possession,"

"No, I haven't," Myeong snapped without hesitation.

"Oh... Alright."

Chae frowned slightly before turning his gaze to meet Ki's eyes.

"Well in that case, I must go, here is my card if you ever need to contact me about anything including any discoveries of the container."

Ki took the card and began reading it's content immediately.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Most people tend to ask me for my number but you can have it regardless :)

"+82----------------"

-Your future lover Chae Jiwoo

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ki Myeong began chucking uncontrollably and hadn't realised that Chae was walking away. Jiwoo immediately turned around and Ki observantly noticed him blushing a lot.

"Wrong card?"

Ki Myeong added whilst staring at him.

"Wrong card." Jiwoo confirmed.

Jiwoo nodded and quickly gave him the right card and began sprinting away.

Myeong sighed again, stood up, and began walking again, on his way he ripped the card and threw it away. It was quite obvious, they didn't truly care about Myeong, neither did society. Sadly, that was the reality of life, or at least Myeong's life.

Myeong edged his way through the streets, past the large crowds that seemed endless. Almost at every step, he collided shoulders with another stranger. Nobody noticed him. It was actually a skill, something he had learnt, the art of not being seen. Even the clothes he wore- a ragged grey hoodie with no branding, expensive jeans- had been intentionally chosen because it had no statement at all. He was always cautious, his father was in a dangerous line of business after all, it was necessary for his own 'survival'. Anything flashy or distinct could compromise his life.

Myeong's ice-cold eyes tracked his surroundings at all times, the slightest odd movement or irregularity was a sign to take a different path. He glanced at every camera from the corner of his eyes, and looked over at the rusty car that been in the same place for multiple years, nothing seemed off.

As the evening skies turned to dusks, Myeong stood at a local shop. He peered over the aisles looking for a canned drink. The day seemed like a blur, mainly because his routine made every day feel the same, he paid for his drink and walked along the pavement for a while and paranoidly checked his back every time he crossed a street. Eventually, he found himself, at his doorstep. He paused before rattling around his pocket for his key.

The key was rusty and worn out, much like his house: a rough-looking door, windows that had started to sprout mould. Not to mention, the abnormal amount of cracks in the walls, that made the entirety of the wall seem jagged and far from secure.

However, it was home. Myeong could easily move out, yet he chose not to: it would bring some unwanted attention from legal services. Furthermore, It was always quiet, and he was a fan of that. Although, he did miss the voice of his father when dinner was ready, it was clear that he had accepted reality and decided to dismiss it and moved on. He opened the fridge, it was mainly empty apart from a few pints of milk and an apple. He closed the fridge and wrote a note for himself.

"Need to get groceries."

He slowly walked up the stairs and into the comfort of his bedroom.

"This is life, eh?" Myeong thought to himself, he scurried to his bed, and almost immediately fell asleep. "I suppose it's bearable. Ah, ill worry about everything else later, some sleep may do me some good."
