Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: Into the depths (1)

Ryu Kwan sat in the comfort of his living room, it was midnight but he was awake. He felt at edge, as it was a green moon. Although, it was an unusual sighting, the results were even more unusual and therefore he sat on standby in case of any emergencies. Being the leader of the strongest faction had its negatives, as Kwan was heavily relied on by the entire continent, the rest of the faction members from Orlans had decided to spend the night with their families so they could immediately help them if they were at risk.

On the other hand, Kwan lived alone and therefore he had no choice. He sat on a rather high-end, white sofa that curved inwards and watched the news on an abnormally large TV screen, which was practically bigger than some bedrooms. He lived on the top floor of a huge skyscraper, it was grand to say the least. It had neon lighting and a torch-like head that lit up the entirety of the neighbourhood.

As it reached the end of the hour, Kwan did his routine checks. He used his index finger and middle finger from his right hand and gently tapped his head. An image popped up in his mind, it felt like the video feed from a security camera, apart from the fact that the view was from the top of the skyscraper and there was a strange green tag attached to certain locations. Inside the green tag was a number: the power levels of people outside.

Power levels were the underlying number that defined your strength in the world. If you had low power levels, you were seen as weak, as insignificant.

Kwan scanned the surroundings, nothing out of the blue-

Kwan jumped out of his seat. For a second, he felt a shock he had never felt, there was no doubt that there was something off, something eerie within the north-west. The usual green tag was stained purple and the power level number was illegible.

Ryu Kwan had sensed a strong presence in the vicinity and had immediately ran towards it. As he approached the street, and he saw a boy in the middle of the street staring at the green moon. For a second Kwan paused, as he tried to identify the source of the presence.

[Skill : Appraisal has been used]

"..."

Kwan was in shock. The source of the power level, was coming from a mere boy? It was unusual to say the least. Kwan had never seen such a case in his entire life, and he was fairly old.

He was middle-aged and wore a green robe that had a hood that perfectly concealed his face when needed. Unlike most stereotypical wizards, Kwan didn't have an incredibly long white beard, or a blue wizard hat; he had little to no facial hair making him seem like he was almost in his thirties, he had faded blonde hair and seemed rather fatigued from the lack of sleep.

"This child must be at least 500x stronger than those of his age. Impressive....."

Ryu Kwan thought back to the past. It was confirmed, the strong presence was definitely by him. Although it wasn't enough to intimidate him, he steadily approached the child, as to not scare him and seem rather approachable. After all, it was rather late, but the neon lights on every single skyscraper helped make both Kwan and Myeong seem visible.

Myeong laid on his back in the middle of a cross-section on the road, he didn't move or speak. Perhaps due to the fact he couldn't use his senses, he was unable to hear the voice of Kwan and his footsteps. In fact, he was lucky there were no cars or other people due to the green moon. Myeong couldn't hear or see anything. It was all darkness. Yet, his eyes were wide awake, staring directly at the green moon.

"What are you doing here? If you keep continuing staring at the-" Kwan said, rather softly, however it was too late. Myeong had passed out in front of him. He had arrived too late.

A green moon was usually a rare occurrence and a mysterious one as well. Scientists were unable to find enough evidence of a pattern and on top of that it had a strange effect on anyone who stared at it for so long, sometimes positive and sometimes negative. Some weaker, mafia clans would send some individuals to see if they could obtain some benefits but every now and then a faction leader or even a mafia clan leader would appear and try it themselves out of desperateness...

Ryu Kwan immediately knew Myeong couldn't be one due to his young age but his presence was still somewhat mysterious as his skill Appraisal only had half-worked despite him being a powerful wizard, normally he would have blamed it on tiredness or something of the sorts, but it was obvious; this time it was not the case.

As Ryu Kwan held Myeong in his arms he felt his heart beat beating incredibly fast despite him being unconscious. Ryu Kwan sighed, he had no choice, the child would die unless he intervened quickly.

Ryu Kwan raised his hand towards the sky, out of nowhere a huge red circle with an inner circle inscribed with runes emerged far above him. Kwan's lack of movement and hesitation made it seem like he had seen it countless times, although for the ordinary person, the sighting of it must have been at least slightly frightening.

[Spirit summon: Elite Hell Wyvern]

Within the same moment, a black scaly beast emerged from the circle and towered above the city before landing on the floor in front of it's master. It had large, beady yellow eyes that stood out in the depths of the night, even though it was rather calm, the fact that it was calm made it even more ominous and eerie.

Ryu Kwan was not the least intimidated by it and leaped supernaturally high above to the back of the Wyvern. The beast flapped its wings at a supernatural pace and flew without any further instruction, it was as if it had read Kwan's mind.

They flew higher so even if someone was on the street, they wouldn't be able to see or hear the Wyvern whilst they were riding it. Kwan made sure to grip Myeong tightly so that he didn't fall.
