Stepping out of the room, I stand by their door for a few minutes listening in to their whispers before making my way downstairs. Falling into my recliner and propping my feet up, I let a tired sigh leave my mouth. It's been over 13 years since they disappeared, and the kid is still searching.
"Lives got to be a rollercoaster for us…doesn't it…" I mumble looking over to the picture of my sister and her husband. This house used to belong to them, the town took it upon themselves to help finish payments after their passing. Believing that, that could help the kid out. But the memories still lay. Even if I move things around, by new stuff, try anything to distract her. She still won't give up. She's got that going for her, stubbornness runs deep.
Reaching for my remote I turn to the news station.
'Heavy winds and run for the next week or so, it's going to be a big one folks. Keep everything secured as the flash floods and heavy winds may keep schools closed for the next day or so.'
Groaning I run my hand over my face agitated, if the schools close how the hell am I supposed to keep that kid entertained. Shaking my head, the front door clicks making me jump. Turning to face it Olive stands there in her bright yellow raincoat and boots, a shy smile on her face as she hides something behind her back.
"Where you both heading off too?" I ask as soon as Marie rounds the corner her car keys in hand. Shoving them into her pocket she smiles.
"Just heading out to my hearse forgot something."
"And you need your raincoat to go to the hearse?" I question, pushing the front of my recliner in to sit up. Olive nods grabbing Marie by the arm and quickly throwing a quick. 'Be right back.' Before rushing out the door.
'Be right back my left foot!'
