After a little bit, Olive pulls open the book. The impatient look in her eyes telling me everything as she flips it to the page, I had it on.
"What is it you saw?"
"Impatient, are we?" I question back, placing my container of spicy noodles on her nightstand. Taking the book from her I start rubbing the bottom corner of the page so that it separates slightly. Pulling the pages apart slowly it reveals a large circle a pentagram within the middle of it. Strange symbols surround it.
"What in the world?" Olive questions voice barely above a whisper as she takes the book from my hands. "How did you see this?"
"Its denser than the other papers, I'm actually surprised you didn't feel it."
Running her fingers over the imprint, she immediately pulls it back yelping and placing her pointer and middle into her finger.
"It nicked me!" She exclaims as the book fell of her lap and onto the wood floorboards. Pulling the tips of her fingers from her mouth a deep chuckle reverberates around the room.
"What the hell?" Looking around the room begins to darken, as though light was being stolen from the very bulb above us. Until nothing was left, and we sat there in the void the only semblance that we were in the room was the bed I was leaned against and Olive's leg.
'Oh me. Oh my. What have we here?'
The voice almost child-like jokingly questions, the pinprick of white orbs dance through the void.
'What does a little bug want with me?'
"I'm no bug! Show yourself!" Olive has lost her fucking mind, as she barks out at the creature. Tightening my grip on her upper thigh I whisper.
"Don't do anything stupid Olive."
'So, you are the child in my game?'
That stumps me as the thing moves closer its white orbs barely inches from us. Illuminating Olive's face as it hums.
'Your parents are going to be very disappointed…'
"How the hell do you know my parents!" Olive goes to stand but with my hand pushing her back she couldn't really move easily.
The deep chuckle that pulls from the creature's throat is disorientating, inhuman. Sending a chill down my spine as my fight or flight response tries to kick up.
'I know more then those fools let on.' His head turns as though listening in for anything before being yanked backwards. What I could only assume as cursing before turning his attention back to us. 'The board has been set kid and this time I won't let it faulter!!'
With that the room blinks back, flooded with light and for that split second, we aren't in the room. But a large courthouse, that immediately blinks out.
"What the fuck was that?"
"I- I don't know…" Olive responds, reaching down she swipes the book off the floor. Flipping back to the page the symbol has vanished leaving behind a clawed handprint.
"What the hell did we do?"
"I don't know…" She repeats, holding the book loosely on her lap.
A long few minutes passed, before Olive stood up, rushing over to her closet, and yanking out her raincoat.
"Where are you going?"
"I think I know where that building was. Come on." She ushers me with a wave of her hand as she yanks on the raincoat. Pushing myself off the floor we barrel out of her bedroom. Stopping in the hall to the front door, she peeks around the corner to see Elinor sitting peacefully in her chair before moving to open the door.
Cursing I turn back around and snatch my car keys off the nightstand. Coming back downstairs Elinor is giving Olive a knowing eye as I step into view. Quickly making up some excuse we rush out the door. Elinor quick on our tails as we hop into the hearse, locking the doors behind us.
Banging on my window Elinor looks pissed.
"You two get out of the car now!!"
"Sorry Auntie!!" Turning to me she gives me a nod and I floor it, making Elinor jump back as we drive away from the house.
"She is going to kill you when you get back!"
"Counting on it!"
